About⬇️
Hi, Im Alex and my channel is Outdoors55. It Is a channel based out of southern Pennsylvania, that delivers family friendly content focused around knife making, knife sharpening, outdoors, hiking, backpacking, and bushcrafting and whatever else I can dream up! I try to remain active in the youtube community and welcome everyone! Thank you for taking the time to watch! I REALLY appreciate!
I watched this a couple years ago. Bought a blade, some G10 scales and orange liner, and made my first knife. I finally got the handle sanded a couple weeks ago and made a leather sheath. Thanks for helping me get off on the right foot in a new hobby.
This looks to be a very early knife build. You’ve come a long way in your tools, video quality and skill level in such a short time. Really cool knife.
You nailed this, man! Knife looks great and you did a great job covering all the steps. I've watched hundreds of videos in the last few weeks because I've been wanting to get into the game. Seeing your video confirmed I have all the tools I need to make it work and can handle the work it will take. Thanks so much and keep up the good work!
I’ve always wanted to do this. I had no idea map gas and an oven could harden steel like that. Super impressive demonstration. I’m definitely making my son something like this for Christmas. SUBSCRIBED!!
Wow that handle looks great . The contour lines from shaping look so organic and that grey colour is awesome.
A wonderful finished product. Thank you!
That finished product looks great! Really love the handle.
It's beautiful! I love the shaping and polishing that you did with the G10.
That handle with the shape of the blade looks perfect! 👌
I've watched a lot of videos and you're my favorite... professional! Knife maker. Never say you aren't a professional again. You are a highly skilled craftsman
Concise, accessible, and motivating to the Everyman. Brilliant!
Excellent, as always, Alex. A no-nonsense, common-man approach to something most knife lovers think is out of reach. I like that you use equipment and supplies that anybody with the funds and a local home depot can find. One of the biggest barriers to entry for this (and many other hobbies) is the myth that specialized equipment is needed to be successful. You bust that myth every time you sharpen, modify, or make knives. Lookin' forward to your next video!
One of the nicest knives I've seen yet.. Well done!
It is absolutely perfect! Sir, I salute you and your amazing skills!
Thanks for your guidance and knowledge. I love your tips and facts on heating the metals. I think I found my new hobby!
Awesome video man! Very well done and I enjoyed every minute of it! Nicely done👍 New Sub right here bro!
Thanks my friend! I found your channel a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the good stuff you put out. One of my new go to channels, but didn't realized I wasn't subbed till today😮 Thanks for the rant video👍 Love me a good rant!
Can someone please help.me........i
Want to begin with knifemaking and want to ask what are the best materials for the handle
use a hard wood, i like padauk, hickory, rosewood, yew.
Same
The wooden mock ups a great idea👏
Instantly got me into making knives. Loved this video. Fantastic. Subbed.
Your theory about more holes for a better bond with the epoxy is actually right on. Its like scuffing an intertube before you patch glue it.
Turned out great. It's going to be cool to watch your skills progress over time, and see how far you decide to take this. I love watching knife making videos, so it's cool that you are starting to do them
Is there a love button?! Rock on dude, love this process!!
Also can't believe I thought that liner was red in IG, it's obviously orange in this video....I guess that ties into your dynamic range lecture 🤔
Haha! Just looked at the picture and it does look red there. Yeah It must have been the lighting!
OUTDOORS55 phew 😌 glad I'm not completely blind...btw, those same scales with red would make a nice twin to that knife 👍👍👍
Yeah I’d like to get something thicker as well. I still have a lot of orange though!
looks orange to me
Stunning finished product. Gotta try one. Maybe not that advanced but gotta try one similar. Great video editing too. Much thanks.
Looks Fantastic and the orange goes really well with the black and gray. Good job!
what a gorgeous knife. came out so great
This is a great video and a beautiful finished product!
I just recently opened up my shop. Alot of DIY around the house stuff. Now Im making pens which have made me interested in making custom pen blanks and Knife scales. Which has made me greatly interested in making knives. Your video helped me jump of the cliff.
Uh oh, there’s no turning back now😀
Great instruction. I am just starting out and I appreciate your instruction. I am a teacher not blades but dance. I have taught for 32 years. I believe they have a lot in common. Dancing and the are if knife making. Crazy but they both need to be choreographed. I will share my first knife with you. Little bit different build. My friend is forging the blade rough. And I am building and finishing. I would really enjoy a lesson on sharpening only.
Thanks again.
Eddie
It came out beautiful.
New to the seen, you built that knife with such ease you made it look easy I'll have to watch more. Thanks looks cold
Beautiful knife. Love the coloured inlay.

That is a damn fine looking knife you've made there. I look forward to seeing how you progress in this field. You're off to one heckuva good start!
Wow the layered g10 looks amazing.. This is begging for a nice leather sheath
Loh Jia En Yes, absolutely! This knife deserves nothing less than a beautiful, hand-crafted leather sheath... An excellent suggestion for a future video, too.
agreed so hard
That knife is a stunner!!! A true work of art! Great job!
Thanks my friend 👍😀
First knife? BRAVO KID. You knocked it outta Fenway. Over the big green monster! I make knives too and I would buy that...
Wow that is artwork. Great job!
Wow that turned out freaking awesome. Nice work!!
props to you man i got a little nervous when you said "i'm a beginner" but i got to say man this is one of the coolest homemade knives i've seen in a long while, and the durability is incredible.
Ty!
Thank you for the video. I made a knife and it came out pretty good, I haven't completely finished it. It needs a little sanding and a lot of sharpening. I took you advice and used the grinder to cut it out. I know getting the bevel for the edge is going to be a challenge, but I will do my best,
Again thank you for the videos..keep the coming.
Very nice job on that knife and on the scales as well. Looking forward to your upcoming knife builds.
Beautiful job.
This is a seriously good looking knife! Well done!
Great job! This was absolutely interesting to watch! the knife is super cool and i guess it will perform well as a bushcraft one because of scandy grind and comfortable handle!
A beautiful piece of crafting...

This is amazing!
Absolutely stunning knife mate well done.I do believe you could sell them.atb paddy☺🍀👍
Holy heckfire man! This is absolutely amazing and you have 100% inspired me to try my hand at knife making!
Take my money!!!!!! I love that knife.
This knife is very aesthetically pleasing to me. Particularly the elegant yet functional blade shape with the scandi grind and the lobed handle which seems very organically contoured filling to the grip. And the way it follows a smooth arc from pommel to point.
Thanks for the kind words! I did leave the handle a little blocky to fill the grip, which it does quite nicely. Thanks for watching🙂
Can you show me the pommel on this knife?
Wow!! Thanks for this video. I'm starting and this work is a big help!
Muy buen cuchillo 🔪
just discovered your channel and your skills are amazing
Thanks 🙏👍
Looks great man

My boys and I loved your video. What a cool knife! We can’t wait to copy it. Also, we were struck by your kindness and self-effacing presentation. Thank you.

Thank you for another great video
Looks great
Absolutely beautiful man great job!🤘👊👍
Thanks my friend!
I'm a sucker for scandi blades but even without that this little knife is stunning. 10/10, would buy it if I had money.
Sir, I find your videos and your ability quite awe inspiring. I am a marine engineer and spent 50 years roaming the world. Sadly, now retired. With a lifetime's worth of old files you can guess how I'm spending this winter. Just wish I could translate some of the products you use to those available in Scotland. Many thanks, Iain MacCallum.
