the wind was blowing left to right and pilots need to "crab" to land at Madeira Airport runway 05.

A week ago, sodding EasyJet landed us just 35 miles away from Madeira at Porto Santo, where we waited for over 2 hours, then flew us 3.5 hours all the way back to Gatwick, where we overnighted in Crawley, then back out again early next morning. Other flights that couldn't land at Madeira had overnighted at Porto Santo and Tenerife. In esssence, we took off from Gatwick knowing full well that landing in Funchal was highly unlikely, yet a) they departed regardless and b) despite advance knowledge of local weather conditions, evidently had no intention of accommodating 150 passengers locally, which other airlines had efficiently done. Well done EasyJet.
I agreed with you, they must had divert the plane to Tenerife (Porto Santo have limited capacity) so you are just 40 minutes from Madeira, not 7 hours (return)

*Point de vue idéal pour filmer ces atterrissage par vent de travers !* Je remarque ici que les pilotes préfèrent décraber une fois le train arrière au sol et non au moment de l'arrondi. Meilleur technique ou préférence des pilotes en général ?!
Je pense que c'est pour éviter les rafales de vent près de la piste.

Wie viel Landebahnlänge kann man eigentlich durch die ansteigende Rampen Bauform sparen?
Die Start- und Landebahn ist etwa 2800 Meter lang, lang genug, um eine Boeing 747-200 . zu landen
Neste vídeo que acabei de ver e que não é igual ao primeiro, podemos ver o prolongamento do aeroporto em direção a Machico , não deixa de ser um aeroporto perigoso mas a orografia da ilha não permite que seja em outro lugar
Exato, a Ilha é muito montanhosa, este foi mesmo um dos lugares melhores, dos poucos que ainda não estavam com densidade populacional na altura!

I didn't know when I holiday in madeira that it was the 9th worst airport runway in the world.
Not really, that was 22 years ago, when the runway was half of the actual, now Madeira is just another airport like many others!
