19 DIFFICULT LANDINGS AT MADEIRA AIRPORT INC. 3 GO AROUND
Windy day at Madeira Airport LPMA, also known as Cristiano Ronaldo Airport. I went in the morning to the airport just in time to watch 2 Easyjet Airbus's go around's, with successful landings on the second approach. On the afternoon was Thomas Cook with a go-around.
The wind was variable and sometimes the gusts were outside the airport limits, causing the go-around of the 3 planes.
We had the visit of 2 ATR, 12 Airbus and 5 Boeing planes, including a A320 NEO from TAP Air Portugal.

I really shouldn't watch this! I've been flying into Madeira for 6 years now. The pilots are just amazing. In 2021 we flew in from London Gatwick and they said they weren't even sure if we could land before we even took off. But the wind dropped just enough for a very scary turn in from the West the plane was banking like a bomber! a perfect landing everyone clapped! the pilot came out after we landed and said he beat the weather window by just one minute.

Great video! I have heard that Madeira is one of the most difficult airports to land and not every pilot can handle it.
Yeh mate, pilots need special training before landing in Madeira :)
What makes it so hard to land at??
@@dantecornwall8661 The windy conditions are really dreadfull in that part of Island. I lost my father in the crash 40 years ago...i was 7 years old and that occurance made a huge step in my live!

Landed there when I was 12 years old. I’m 49 now. That was before the runway was extended. It was just like a roller coaster when we landed. Never forgot. Terrible introduction to your first flight.👍👍

At 0:55, the pilot managed pretty well with a great landing there, but the weather conditions were not really hard at this time... Great footages!
Thanks so much for watching, yes, with the wind limits in Madeira, now is rare for the planes to land in very extreme conditions, as soon the wind is over the limit, the plane go around, diverts to other airport, or go back home.

Muito obrigado amigo. As hélices paradas no ATR acontece quando a rotação das mesmas igualam a velocidade do obturador da camera, ficando a ilusão que estão paradas :)

We had an excellent Captain. It was VERY gusty but all good fun!
@@kalypsograssick603 They are all great pilots and normally the landings are very safe. If the wind is not under the limits, they just go around :)

Nicely captured , i managed to see that there is a terrace in the airport. Can everyone visit it? Or is it only for passengers?
You can visit the terrace for free as a visitor, no problem :) I just prefer this higher position on the road side.

Aviation ballet .... well the "Nutcracker" if your in seat 17A withe Easyjet from Gatwick - ouch ! TAP and Binter, absolute pro`s, but to be fair, they fly in several times a day.
Charter Captains a maybe doing 4 landings a month.
For sure, TAP pilots are very used to Madeira and they land without any stress even in the worst conditions. Charter pilots can randomly go around when they miss the approach, but always safe :)
