Amazingly helpful for a new reloader. Thank you for showing a way to get brass unstuck without having to go out and buy even more equipment.

Great method! I hope I'll never be in a stuck case situation again, but it's nice to know.
Let me share how I removed a stuck case "tube" (the case head ripped out of the case!) from my sizing die:
-grab a paper towel and shove it from the top of the die (where the decapping pin usually screws onto).
-screw the die upside down on the press.
-put a metal rod (I used a punch) where the shellholder would go.
-use the leverage of the press to compress the paper towel which will in turn push out the case.
-use oil and a pick to patiently rip and take the paper inside the die out.

I’ve been reloading off and on for over 25 years. That’s pretty slick.

I have had 50 cal BMGs stuck in my sizing die and I was able to get the decapping pin out and made an adapter to screw into the decapping pin hole with a grease fitting brazed primer hole closed on casing and just pumped it full of grease and casing shot out of die. I now have grease fittings for all my dies and think they work slick.

That's pretty trick. I have a 30-06 case that stuck yesterday. I'll definitely give this a shot. Thanks for posting this video.

Thanks for the tip but my case still wouldn't come out until I heated the die then the case came out.
I'm not sure why my Hornady die started sticking the cases but I ordered a Redding die to replace it, we will see.
I used it once before and it worked ok, then it began sticking the cases .
So this is only an added tip to use heat on the die. I dig a case out once before and its no fun.

Lol same here tightened the nut just pushed the Grips off got out the torch and twisted it right out I've only had .556 get stuck before nothing else ever... Yet...

I've used this technique a few times. Beats having to buy a tap, drill etc. If you can get vice grips on it will come out. Faster too.

*This might work for straight walled pistol cases, but it doesn't work for crap with bottle necked rifle cases*

Probably works if the case isn’t all the way in the die and you can actually get a good bite with the vice grips.

Most stuck cases I have dealt with, the dies “relief hole” gets clogged. Next time it happens I’m going to try and find a punch small enough to poke a hole through the brass. Idk if it will work or not. I’ve been using a metal dowel and a hammer in my vise. It works but it’s not a preferred method. As you could damage the threading eventually I would imagine.

I just put the case head in a vice enough to deform it and turn the die with a wrench that loosens the casing. Then I tap with a soft leather mallet the die rearwards to get it off the neck expander. Just screw the die back in and keep reloading.

Straight walled for sure! Bottle neck? I don’t think so. Sadly when rifle cases get stuck I head over to the lathe.

Unfortunately, did not work with my 223 Remington Brass and RCBS FL Die.
Maybe it works with straight walled cases. Not sure…

Same here , I tried it with a RCBS that had a .223 case stuck and a Lyman with a stuck .308 case neither worked for me , I even bought a really good pair of Milwaukee vice grips just keeps stripping the brass but not moving at all

  • @colinsmith4672

Wow I wish I found this two nights ago. Lee directions say to remove top nut as you did and pound de-capping pin with hammer to remove the brass. Tried that, pin bent, brass still stuck. Trying oil and your method next, but I suspect I damaged my die at this point.

I call bs. Nobody sticks a 9mm brass, they stick bottle necked rifle brass. This method may work but this example is shady.
