Falkland Islands | A Journey to the Bottom of the Earth

- Come along on a journey to the bottom of the earth on my two week trip to the Falkland Islands. I assembled this video to show you what I saw and hopefully, I can make you feel, at least a little bit, the way I did when leaving the Falklands.
And for those of you who might not know that much about the Falkland Islands, I also added a real brief history of the islands and a little bit about the Falklands War.
The Falkland Islands are one of those rare places left where you can escape the modern world. Located 300 miles to the east of the bottom tip of South America. Their remote location has left the Falklands a place for one of a kind wildlife encounters.
Of all the places we’ve visited in recent years the Falklands are unlike any of the others - and I think that is was what I grew to love about the Falklands the most.
For more info on the Falklands check out our blog post: www.gettingstamped.com/falkla...
Also, check out the Volunteer Point King Penguin Video: • Volunteer Point, Falkl...
I watched this 6 months ago when I lived in England, this inspired my family to want to go even more. Now I'm living in Stanley Falklands. It's as beautiful as he says it is.

The landscape is really similar to the scottish highlands, except it has penguins.
Also the falkland islanders love the UK
And no jocks, haggis and bagpipes, not sure about midges mind,ps Scotland is beautiful tho
Scotland has trees. 🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳
Similarly New Zealand has these kinda looking bits of land Where its just ocean then rolling hills of nothingness/fields of grass and sheep but yes also we have forests with trees rivers and what not

Is there any visit tour for outsider to this Island?

I’ve spent nearly 4 years on the island since 1989 and the changes I’ve seen are incredible. It’s gone from a very post war building site to a vibrant tourism spot. The wildlife is incredible and a photographers (me too) dream. The video is a superb little snapshot
Donald Young how is it there i would like to know
Jayden Jordan the islands and the people are incredible. The landscape are not the hilliest most mountainous but they have a ruggedness that’s quite magnificent. The wildlife is one of the biggest draws it is better than video can describe. I love the place and will get back as soon as I can
Donald Young thank you I was always wondering what it was like. Looks cool just islands not really bothered by criminals like that up in the U.S.
Jayden Jordan it has its #hare of nonsense but it’s pretty controlled by the islanders and 5he local police. The fact the almost everyone knows everyone else is a bonus
@@jaydenjordan7127 of course they're bothered by criminals. There is police force there but very little crime however if you have a criminal record you would find it very difficult entering the islands.
Loved the footage, I lived their for 7 years. What makes the place so special is what is not there as much as what is.
@Juan Ignacio Davidson you have some tourist attractions. Just be ready to do some driving around. Penguins, elephant seals big birds of prey. The battlefield tours. Ship wrecks. Certainly worth a visit.
To see the Falklands in such a beautiful state is so different from watching it on a tiny black & white TV during the war. Great to see how peaceful and content the people, fauna and the islands look now.
Well put, most of my knowledge was regarding the war. It's amazing to see the place the way it is meant to be seen. The respect paid to both sides at the memorials is touching.

@@danielasterling6936Not completely. Most of Mainland America, (and much of Offshore America), speaks Spanish, but not all of America. The only exceptions in the mainland, are Canada, (English and French), the United States of America, (English), Belize, (English), the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, (English), the Republic of Suriname, (Dutch), and the Federative Republic of Brazil, (Portuguese). In Offshore America, many islands speak French, Dutch, or English. Greenland speaks Danish. Many other American Islands speak Spanish as well.
Actually the Argetines quite often come and deface the graves of the fallen British soldiers but get away with it mainly because Argentina will threaten to stop all boats full of supplies coming into the Falklands through their waters. @@evan6901
Similar latitude to northern England, but due to the strong westerly airflow around Antarctica, the climate is colder, similar from stats I've seen to say the Shetlands, to the north of Scotland. A typical Summer's day in Stanley averages 14-16 deg C, Winter about 4-6 deg C. Both island groups are windswept and treeless.
I would’ve put Falklands on a similar distance to the Equator as somewhere like Oxfordshire
@@Mike-jv9cl I have double checked, it lies from about 51 deg S and 52.5 deg S, so yes Oxfordshire would be comparable.

You’re right they are very special. I was fortunate enough to be deployed to the Falklands on three occasions between 1990 and 2007 whilst in the British Forces. Fantastic memories, I do hope Roddy and Lilly are well as I recalled staying with them for one night as I was met the following morning by one of the first cruise ships, the Enterprise as I recall. I sat on the beach after Roddy made me breakfast and was joined by the Carracarra whilst I waited to be picked up by a small craft before boarding the cruise ship and over night making our way to Stanley - amazing place with people I still call friends. Thank you for sharing. 👌

Geat video, I was stationed here years ago and its great to see the memories flooding back. The road from Mount Pleasant to Stanley and the stone run mountains as you approach Stanley are absolutely stunning. The view at the top of Mount Kent looking down is unforgettable.
One day I will visit these beautiful islands, a little piece of home in the South Atlantic and so much more. Thanks for posting.
What a great film! Absolutely beautiful footage, a bit of history & way of life mixed with the local wildlife. Really enjoyed this..
Beautiful Falkland Island . When the war broke out in 1982, we were in New Zealand and troops were sent for the war . I was looking for a video of Falkland Island . This is real concise excellent one covering all the Islands .
Visited the Faklklands in 2015. This is a most excellent and beautiful documentary! Of all the places, it's the small homes with baby lambs kept in the yard (for bottle feeding) and the farm kitchens and cozy pubs. At one of these in Stanley, I asked the barman some history questions; he suggested I go ask one of the patrons and I introduced myself and was invited by the elder patron to join him for lunch. He was Governor Rex Hunt's driver when the invasion of 1982 occurred. I listened to his story, but the 1982 conflict was the least of his memories: he sailed for years in a trawler protecting transatlantic convoys during WW2. As understated as the Islands themselves. The people and the wildlife of the Falklands are beautiful: no desire but to live where they live in harmony with all. Don't miss the accurate to scale model of the solar system which extends many hundreds of meters along a trail by the shipwreck bay, with a sun the size of a huge beachball and an earth the size of a small marble!
After the pandemic crisis, I really want to go there? Is it expensive?

Thank you for a very nice video on the Falkland islands. Shows a world that is really different.
I find is astonishing just how similar the Falklands are to the west coast of Scotland. Apart from the colourful tin roofs, the penguins and the sea lions there would be no way of telling them apart. The climate and clouds, the gorse, the sheep, the colour of the grass and silver sand, the type of rock, the heather and peat (I didn’t even know peat existed outside of Scotland!), the what we would call “lochans” basically small ponds in the peat, the cold, deep blue of the water and the white foam when it crashes over the yellow lichen covered coastline, the empty sandy beaches and dunes, the species of seaweed, the old land rovers bumping over tiny moorland tracks, and even the windswept fences crisscrossing the landscape. Fascinating.
Peat is also very common in the West of Ireland, i used to stay on a farm there as a nipper, and they would use peat for everything, cooking, heating , this was in the early 80's
This was a great video, thank you! Like most people here I too would love to visit the Falklands.
