I got my "camper" as she walked by when I was changing the oil in my truck. I invited her in for shade and water and food. She checked out the backyard and the house. 20 minutes later, she was asleep on my feet while I was on the computer. A most lucky day for her....but more lucky for me.

What a wonderful story of how yall found each other. I'm a trucker and it is a lonely life..I've often thought about going to a shelter and rescuing a dog but thought It might be cruel because there isnt a ton of space in the semi..BUT..after seeing how happy Camper is..i know you've upgraded to a truck now..but seeing how happy he is in a limited space I'm 100% going to start my search for my new best friend. Thank you so much for posting this..be safe out there on the road
So long as the dog gets exercise each day then it will have no problem in a small space. Consider something like a lurcher which will happily sleep in bed for most of the day (given it has a good run first).

I do but without doubt as you say Camper is better fed and getting a better life than his previous life. I can't imagine he was that well looked after, no tag, no owners looking for him. That lil man is way happier and healthier now.

I wonder about my dogs previous life sometimes. She was picked up as a stray, but was leash and house trained. I wonder if she was abandoned or simply got lost. Anyway she’s been my best friend for 4 years now ❤️
@@fatguyonthc Our dog Lady was rescued with her litter at a spay and neuter eben out that way... she's the sweetest, smartest dog (and she even looks a bit like Camper, with the floppy ears and Aussie freckles). Breaks my heart to imagine there are pups like her running free and scavenging from a fast food dumpster to get by - or did you.mean people post found pups there to help find homes for them?
My guess was that someone took him out there and abandoned him. No chip, no tag, and no one claiming him. How else would he get there? Very glad Nikki gave him such a wonderful life.
Relationships with animals can be every bit as powerful as human relationships, and loneliness (on or off the road) can be a serious thing even for an introvert. So glad you two have each other!

Dogs are extremely smart about one thing. They just know when they meet what I like to call "their human". They just know instantly. Camper knew immediately that you were the one. Love this story. Made my day. You and Camper are very lucky.
When an animal picks you to spend its life with you it is a blessing. Their love is unlimited, and your life is changed forever. A stay cat did that to us some twenty-five years ago. She picked us and is forever in our hearts to this day. Our current super seniors get us up every morning to take care of their needs. To say, they fill our hearts with love. it's just unbelievable. Glad you found each other.

Pretty awesome way to meet. No purer love than that of a dogs. It comes unconditionally and with no strings attached. I met the own love of my life when he was 9 weeks old and have loved adventuring with him ever since. No one I’d rather take on wild adventures than him. We just spent 2.5 months traveling out of my suv around the southern U.S. and filming our own adventures. We love watching you and Camper every week!

Seeing the title I expected one thing but when I found out it was about her dog it unexpectedly got me a bit emotional remembering my Bear. He gave me the best 17 yrs of his life I couldve asked for. I miss my old boy.

What a sweet story 🤠 I believe God gives us a special friend at different times in our lives when we need them most. I believe that God created dogs to express his faithful unconditional love and how we are supposed to walk with God are only desires to do his will. And that is the way it is with a dog. I believe God put him in your life because you need it that love. I believe that's why dog is God spelled backwards. But he only lends us the special friends for a limited time, so cherish every moment and know that you mean as much to him as he means to you. God keep you safe in your adventures. And a Prius is a wonderful vehicle to travel in great gas mileage and dependability can't beat that.
The the 3:00 mark you can see camper's mind racing, and you can see the adrenaline starting as he shifts his feet back and forth. His prior handler may be closer than you think!? Camper no doubt thought he may be going back! You can see that he will never leave your side, what a companion!

This one hit me REALLY hard. Exactly 6 days after this video was posted, I had Covid complications. Covid>pneumonia> gastro infection>kidney failure>heart attack>stroke. But I'm alive. However, while I was unconscious in the hospital, my Rottweiler Dutch, my buddy, my boy, was tranquilized and removed from my home, then euthanized. When I recovered he was gone. Walking into an empty home for the first time afterwards was gut wrenching. 'm so happy to see your love story. It made my day. I'm so happy that you found each other. I'm a professional dog trainer & canine behaviorist, and Dutch came to me to receive behavior modification, due to severe neglect. Like Camper, someone out there didn't want him. But love heals all.
I look forward to your next adventure Nikki. It's always an escape to watch your videos, and for that short span of time I can imagine and dream of what it must be like to be so free. Thank you for that.

Welcome to TEXAS! Camper definitely looked like he remembered. In fact I know he did. When I rescued my dog from the side of the highway he would cry when we passed the same spot his friend was killed. Like Camper my Buddy is the best pet I've had and I tell him all the time he's my Angel.

But I’m glad a cute dog name “Camper”from our small town reservation call Gallup, NM is living his life with a blessing owner, I’m happy your in a better condition Camper many blessings and prayers.❤️

In 2010 Millie was found behind a grocery store maybe 2 months old. In 2015 I sold everything and went FT RVing so I could spend all of my time with her. We still wander the country together and I tell her daily how I love her more than the moon and stars and that is between. I truly don't know what I will do once our time together is over. Some souls are just meant to spend time together. Camper finding you is a special.

That’s a beautiful story Nikki. Our furry friends give us so much unconditional love, they just want to be with us, side by side as you said. In one way we can rescue them, but I think when they give us so much unconditional love, they can rescue our hearts ♥️
Animals have a strong sense of what is good for them, and best their own survival. We have had... geez, I have to count... 8 rescues (dogs and cats). Most recently, another kitten, who has just fit right in with the pack :) Camper is a super lucky dog to have you as his matriarch :) You two make a great team :) Be safe out there, and have fun :)
Camper reminds me of my first personal dog Bodi. Running my college campus waiting for me to get out of class and by my side for the next 15 yrs. Only thing Bodi hated being in a car, but he always jumped in and loved jumping out for a new adventure. Wonderful story lovely pup.

rarely will you find a more dedicated loving creature than a dog, unconditional love for their lifetime, I have had many dogs 3 labs that lived to 18 not ever wanting to leave me, I now have a lab 13 fit as can be and forever loving, good for you great for Camper, you saved him and you reap the joy every day, I do enjoy watching you together bravo young Lady!

What I admire about you, is that you are so responsible with your doggie,everywhere you go with him he is always on a leash,you never let him go wandering around without supervision,like some van dwellers I have seen on video's,which is extremely dangerous. you can train a dog to not run away jesus... I have never used a leash on my dog in the middle of a metrpolis. He new the green and red lights etc. If the dog is smar and the trainer is good doggo has freedom and trust
@@arpudli8962 Give me a break that's ridiculous,no matter how smart a dog is or how good the trainer might be,it is very foolish to allow a dog to be out in public places without a leash,if the dog gets spooked by a loud noise like a tyre bursting etc it could run into traffic and cause an accident to happen,and perhaps the dog has good temperament,but all animals are unpredictable and some dogs don't like certain people and can bark or try to be aggressive toward them,if God forbid the dog bites them then the dog will be confiscated and euthanized. Dogs should only be allowed to run free without a leash, in dog parks,in your backyard and empty beach areas where there are no people around.You sound very ignorant in the way you expect an animal to be on it's best behaviour,even humans goof up.It should be against the law to walk around with unleashed dogs in public places,not only for the dog's safety but the public's as well.

We survived 3 years in a city together.. just fucking move on..... I'm not saying that everyone should unleash their dogs..but if some can manage without cause the dog is smart and well trained go for it... Obviously if you are a careful dog person you will know when to put a leash on... She knows this too in the video.. sometimes have it sometimes not.. she knows it dog knows it.. I know it my dog knows it... My dog can come to me and ask for it even... So please you and those who wildly like your comment... Move on...

I found “Charly” at a trail near Caprock canyon state park in the Texas panhandle. He never left my side and I too took him home. I really loved that dog. About 11 years later I had to say goodby. He was old and crippled, in a lot of pain, so I opted to have him put to sleep. Hardest thing I have ever done. Prepare yourself for that day so you don’t fall apart. I still cry every time I think of him. Enjoy camper while he is around
What a beautiful, happy story! I, too, found the best dog I’ve ever known in New Mexico. My Bosco was found as a pup under a pickup in Albuquerque’s south valley. He ever-present friend to and protector of my 2 little boys. Every picture of my kids has Bosco in it. We lost him last year after 16 years and he left a big goofy dog-sized hole in all our hearts. I am so happy you have Camper and your video shows that he was meant to be in your life. Thank you for sharing the story!

I met my little guy just over a year ago. I can't believe people can just leave a dog and it be such a mystery. Mine was found behind an auto parts store. What awesome dogs and amazing companions.
