Y’all! I have been reading all your tips and tricks in the comments and they’re INCREDIBLE! I can’t wait to apply some of these! If you have any tips, tricks or just wanna say hi, we LOVE hearing from you all! Comment below (even just a hi)!
Favorite video!!! We use a sawyer water filter it is so fast at filtering water which really helps me because i get very dehydrated when backpacking. I try to drink every hour while hiking then make sure I drink more when I get to camp. A really good backpacking meal from the brand Good to Go, Carrot Ginger Bowl and the cucumber salad. All meals taste better while backpacking! Also I pack in my porover coffee because instant coffee is just not for me. 😂 Loved the time laps! RV and Camper are so stinking cute!
I highly recommend getting a pack for Camper. He is so strong that I am sure he could carry his food, water, and anything else you carry for your dogs.
I recommend you get packs for your doggos so they can carry their own food and some of their water. Keep things like bug spray in an easy-to-reach exterior pocket. Bugs love me, too. Seeing Mountain House dehydrated food is so nostalgic for me. I went on my first backpacking trip in the early 1970s, when I was in 5th grade. I took Mountain House food then. I had a miserable time, but saw some amazing things that are enjoyable memories to this day. I love seeing y'all living a bit outside the box! I recommend LMNT for hydration. I use it almost every day. Great taste, no sugar, no fake sugar. More backpacking ? Yes, please!
Backpacking! I’m going to love this video. Funny dog hates water story. I have a pit who used to chase our chickens, used to because I no longer have chickens, and she hated water of any depth. One day we took her to the lake and there was a “chicken” floating on the water. Since chickens can’t fly, she just knew she could catch the “chicken.” She took off swimming and hasn’t stopped since. Oh, yeah, she was shocked and terribly disappointed when the “chicken” flew away. To this day ducks are still “water chickens” to me and my grown children.
We have ducks that look like chickens here. Very strange birds. I don’t know if they are some kind of mixed up crossover or what but the locals call them “chucks”. Water chickens might be funnier though. 😂
REI can help you find the right size & fit pack for you! So great to see Camper off leash loving his life. His water fears look to be gone?! Rodney as cute as ever. Combating a fear of over night camping in wide open spaces takes: Mental strength and courage. 💗✨
So glad that you have the Boys with you ! And thank you for reminding people to use their common sense about being in Nature ! I learned to really love and respect the outdoors from my environmental studies teacher Mr. moore ( HF-L ) he was also an adopted member of the Souix tribe .
Fun video. I like the strength training opportunity quote! I’m sure someone has already shared this but just in case no one has… the easiest way to lighten your load is the big three (pack, shelter, and sleep system). These are also the most expensive. But you can always chip away at the smaller things first like swapping Nalgene for smart water bottle, or your water filter for something lighter (Sawyer, BeFree, or Platypus). You can also swap things like stove, travel sized toiletries items, clothing, etc. As I get older these little things do make a big difference on distance and how much I get to enjoy my hikes. Post script: don’t forget a mini Bic lighter. If you’re ever visiting Yosemite, stop by the Ahwahnee and I’ll at least comp you a drink 😉 adventure on 🍻
Excellent trip! One thing I learned the hard way, always, always have several ways to light the stove, those self igniting stoves are notorious for failing when needed and hot food/liquids could be the difference between comfort and misery and even survival. I eventually developed a small kit bag with emergency items like first aid, fire starters, medicines, bug dope, water tablets, etc.
I love that you keep doing "your" thing and keep living "your" life 🥰 Companionship is great but there is something to be said about going solo because its great to get to know yourself, to push yourself and you keep giving yourself time for you and your babies ❤
Oohh, I loved that video, sharing your tent with those lovely boys of yours. Had to chuckle watching Camper wrapped in his blanket, face peeping out. Certainly more backpacking please, such fun.
Awesome video as always Nikki, Camper and R.V. Y’all always find and explore the most beautiful places. Also Nikki it would be so awesome if you could put a camera on Camper so your audience could experience the adventures from he’s point of view. Thanks for letting us ride along with y’all on y’all’s adventures.
More backpacking videos please! ❤ I know this is my third comment. I just got super excited that one of my favorite RUclipsrs is enjoying my new favorite hobby! I'm also a newbie to backpacking and loved watching you with a giant pack and the dogs. I will watch this one again I would love to see you collaborate with Miranda Goes Outside! She's another favorite RUclipsr of mine in the backpacking niche.
Great video! Camper needs some packs to help out. As someone who gets bitten all the time (I am delicious!), I would keep the bug repellant stuff. Also, Caladryl Clear is a gel that really helps take the itch out of bites. Rinse or wash the bite area and apply, let it dry, and apply it again. It helps and you don't have pink spots all over! I also spray clothing, socks, shoes, hats, chairs, tents, practically anything that will help keep the buggies away!
Thanks for taking us on this trip, too! Looks like Rodney settled in to his blanket, though still a bit leary of the whole tent thing. ❤ Camper had fun fishing, like you said! What a good boy! Happy trails!
Bug net. Use a bug net over your hat and shoulders. Also, wear long pants. Just not cotton jeans. Also, gaiters to protect your ankles. Tiny shorts and ankle socks may look good on video but it's not what experienced hikers would wear, especially in areas with mosquitos and heavy foliage.
If you want to get your bag lighter I would recommend going to Decathalon and getting some gear there as it is not too expensive and especially if you’re only really doing summer trips and not much winter trips Decathalon would be perfect for you they also have a really good tracking pole tent so if you wanted to try out poles it is a great way to not have to carry to poles as they can be very heavy I find the really helpful if you have knee or ankle problems it also put some of the weight off of your back/hips onto your hands which is good to distribute the weight throughout your body
My Jet Boil igniter quit pretty early on, so I just bring a small Bic lighter, turn on the gas, and light it with my lighter. Works every time, and I’ve had it for years. 👍🏻
Dad of an Eagle Scout. Now a marine, decades of backpacking, some of the best memories with my son. Best tips I learned. Always get a free standing tent. She’s is absolutely correct on hanging a bear bag. Use switch back pants / shorts that are quick dry. Always bring lightweight net mosquito head cover just in case. Never drink unfiltered, or at least use “tableted or boiled water. Giardia is not something you want. Freeze dried is good but expensive. Ramen with can of crab meat, or tuna/salmon or chicken is cheap and yummy. A good sleeping pad and inflatable pillow are well worth the investment. Nikki is right, the serenity of backpacking is incredible. I do prefer doing it with friends, enjoy

This is another great video of exciting fun and adventure with You, Camper and Rodney on a solo backpacking trip have an awesome weekend and thank you Nikki, Camper and Rodney. 🇺🇲🚌🚌🇺🇲
Tip for you. For your hydration problem. A collapsible water jug and a gravity filter. Let gravity and time do the work and then have all the water you can drink 😅
It's been over 20 years since I did my last solo backpacking trip. It's fun to see all the new equipment. Thank you for sharing your adventures. They are inspirational.
I loved you pulling out blankets for the dogs. It was so cute😊. I was a nomad in Sky Forest. I mostly car camped but I had a nice out door set up. Hammock. I also had established familiar spots and friends ❤ Mosquitoes hate Carotine, the stuff that makes carrots orange. So put that in your body! And there are clever little electric pumps at GGG and the reason your stove didn't click on is because the Lil thingy got bent ❤ you just bend it back. I'm currently in the Tahoe area Drink Coffee do stuff
I have a hint for you mosquitos do not like the smell of coffee grounds new or used so if you want to try and get away from the chemicals give it a try. Just put some in an airy bag and snap to backpack or any part of your clothing.
You need to get on the LMNT bandwagon!! It works great for migraine prevention and treatment as well as giving you the electrolyte boost you need without the sticky sugar mess if you spill it. Try it with carbonated water for a special treat or get the canned product direct from LMNT. Black Cherry is the bomb!!❤
I’ve been watching your videos for years now. Love them and the Delvdogs. I suggest you watch videos posted by Catherine Gregory. She has solo hiked and solo camped much of the Western states. Of her many years worth of videos, my favorite is her hike to Crater Lake in Oregon. Her videography, blending with music is fantastic. You will also learn camping tips from her. One more thing: Camper is the best dog of all in the vlogging media! One last thing, which you may already have, is an emergency GPS system or satellite phone. Take care.
I think you can skip leg day for a few days after that hike carrying that backpack 🎒😎. Watching this made me price out a collapsible wagon with all terrain wheels though! Thanks for another awesome, beautiful video Nikki! ❤️
I am at 60+ year-old Canadian and thoroughly enjoy your adventures. Your videography skills are amazing, your personality, charm and story is very good.
Good Morning Nikki and your sweet dogs 🐕 nice to see you having fun enjoying the outdoors 😊 love seeing your furbabies 😊 always make sure you have water 💧 when walking in the heat gets way too hot in the sun 😊. Love all your videos 😊 .. give your sweet dog 🐕 a hug 😀 stay safe out there on the roads Take care God bless you guys 😊 Have a safe travel. 😊 🐕🐕🐕🍺🍺🍺
Mosquitos love O type blood. I'm O, I know. The less you scratch, the better you will be. Good luck with that. I LOVE seeing the dogs enjoying themselves.
Hi Nikke , that was amazing to watch and felt so refreshing. It was lovely to see the boys enjoying being out all night too, as well as you. Well done. Look forward to more camping adventures. Always love seeing the boys. How they are both growing up too. Rodney is quite tall now. He loves being with camper his big brother, you can see that. 👍🐶
I had to pause about fourteen minutes in the point out.... Camper was in the river before you!!!! What whaaat??? GO CAMPER!!! ALSO, Though I am older than you you are my hero! I was shocked to learn.I've done something you have not.And that is camped alone my entire adult life!!!❤❤❤
Im up in SLT loving the whole scenery. Alone & car camping Nomad living. Love following You & the boyz. I need to learn some fishing/License. From CA central valley to SLT. STOKED.... to say the least.... out into the great wide open. Thanks for your Bold/Wildness. Edward. 😊@@NikkiDelventhal
Thank you for sharing this trip with us. The lake is so Round! I tried riding to this lake in July 2023, but couldn’t make it past the 3-4 feet of snow that was still there at the time. Good to know what the place looks like without the snow.
I love backpacking with Gus, no road noise, clean air, nothing but nature. I am blessed living in the Pacific Northwest where the Cascades are in my back yard. Love Rodney, he's sooo cute! You are probably much safer up in the mountains than you are in "civilization". If you ever get back up this way ( Washington) look us up, we'll show you some awesome spots.
Favorite video!!! We use a sawyer water filter it is so fast at filtering water which really helps me because i get very dehydrated when backpacking. Great video. Loved the backpacking adventure. I used to do canoe trips for 7 days. Brings back memories and all the best spots are always far away. Camper looked so cute laying in the moss.
these are the Friday videos I enjoy....something different .... Just finished the video and yes I like to see more hiking camping videos. My bucket list dream was to do what you just accomplished . Congrats. I couldn't carry that back pack so at my age I might have to settle for a donkey to carry my gear.
I have learned to take a grain of Celtic salt and dissolve under my tongue then have half glass cup of water the minerals allows the water to pass into our blood cellls and the salt stays outside the cells in balance with hydration 😊
I was impressed with the fact you carried a lot of weight and could even talk into the camera along the way! Felt bad for you with the migraine - must have been a long night of suffering yet you held it together. Always enjoy watching!
Nikki, try the water bottle pouches that the trail runners use. They don't make sloshing sounds and they collapse flat when empty to stuff in your sack.
❤❤LOVE that you did your research and encouraged others to look up park rules, “leave no trace”, bear safety and tricks you learned!! Glad you got out there!
Highly recommend getting your water from a still source such as the lake, dip just below the surface about 6 inches. Giardhea Cysts sink, but are stirred up in moving water and can float on the surface tension of a lake..
Camper looks and says "alone? what am I?". Ultra light backpacking gear is not cheap, but its worth it to get the base weight down. I know exactly where you went! Been there riding and hiking more than once.
At first I thought you were going without the dogs~ I don;t know why...so I fast forwarded to see and thank God you took your dogs! Now I can watch and enjoy LOL
FYI - guidelines for food storage from bears are 10 ft High into a tree and 4 ft away from the trunk of the tree. Also did you know that there are rattlesnakes in the Desolation Wilderness and mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe😮❤
As a Tahoe local it was interesting to figure out the hike you were based in the clues in the video. Great area, super fun and not too too crowded. Tips I would give IF you asked would be: always carry a Bic and storm proof matches, try Peak nutrition products, and drink twice as much water when at elevation. I love Camper being off leash I remember when he drug you down a hillside chasing a squirrel. Rodney is too cute. Pack on and enjoy.
just gotta say you are one of the most down to earth people on YT. I wish men had access to more women like you instead of all the garage we see on social media. Whoever is dating you should be very lucky. 🎉
Love that you have been spending more time around the Tahoe area. Yes, there are tons of places to explore. I live over in the Sierra foothills near Jackson and the Highway 88 corridor also has a whole lot of wonderful places. My pittie also hates the water. It actually terrifies her. One more tip. After he graduated Cal State Sacramento, my son worked for Fish and Game and did biological survey's up in that area and I told him to always be prepared for rapid weather changes. Rain can come on quite rapidly up there it can get brutal. Never trust the water quality either.
Travel suggestion for when you are adventure bound again. Visit Caddo Lake in Uncertain, TX. It actually covers Texas and Louisiana, and the river that feeds it is amazing and peaceful. Tons of historical stuff to do with camping, hiking, swimming, and off road adventure to cover three states nearby. You can quickly go from busy city to non populated area. The river also has big paddle boat tours. Just a suggestion.
Having picked a rocky location to set camp, if the dogs didn't want to lie on their bed I would have stuck it under the blow up mattress for extra cushioning against the cold ground.😄
Look at you pushing into the discomfort zone. High five 🤚🏻 I just bought a 4x4 to enable me to have more outside adventures, so I'm joining you in the nervous firsts of discomfort. 🤣
Go slow in learning the limits of your vehicle. When in doubt find someone to follow in that's experienced and knows your vehicle. Nikki still doubts herself from time to time but knows that Devanhauler inside and out.
@@stuart_oneill Lucky for me I belong to my country's 4x4 community for quite a while already and have access to some extremely knowledgeable people. I'm starting with training with the most reputable trainer in a few weeks. Looking forward to it and the new places I will be able to access.
I stopped watching your content about a year ago. About 2 months ago I started to really get into backpacking and consuming just about anything RUclips threw at me about it. Then, you release this, and the algorithm knew exactly who your target audience was with me. Keep it up Nikki! Definitely a proper fitting pack is crucial to trail comfort, as well as a deep personal discussion as to what you'll actually need on the trail. 38lbs is quite a bit too heavy, especially for a single solo night camping. I look forward to seeing your adventures on the trail, and I guess on the road too.
My older brother and I both did a fair bit of motorcycle camping. He constantly reminded me to travel light. It didn’t always sink in. Then I got married and had to build a trailer to haul all of her “stuff “. In 2011 I bicycled from the Twin Cities to Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota. I had front bags, rear bags, and a trailer. The travel light lesson still had not sunk in entirely. I had stuff along that I never touched during the entire trip. Never too old to learn, I guess. The bicycle trip had the unfortunate (fortunate?) side effect of bringing out a weakness in my heart. I became well-acquainted with my cardiologist and a companion heart surgeon. My wife and I have both slowed down mostly due to age and related problems. I mention another bicycle trek. My cardiologist says don’t go alone. My wife says don’t go. So, I load up the car (still carrying too much stuff). I bring the bicycle along and ride the trails in and near the various parks I go to. Meanwhile, we live vicariously through youngsters like you and your various adventures. Your backpacking experience here was extraordinary. Keep ‘em coming. Travel safe!

Exactly my thoughts, about the dog packs. Some dogs actually love this as they see it as their job.
Are you aware of a ratio of what weight and/or size packs that dogs can carry? Im afraid to put anything more than a blanket on my old guy.

I have a hint for you mosquitos do not like the smell of coffee grounds new or used so if you want to try and get away from the chemicals give it a try. Just put some in an airy bag and snap to backpack or any part of your clothing.
We do coffee grounds around our camper at our land and it works great ❤️
@@jenniferleonard8660and maybe eat lots of garlic. 🧄
I know the feeling Nikki. Having the blood all mosquitos are drawn to. Definitely puts a damper on outdoor adventures. Awesome video!
@@keithbarnden2498 Black cherry is the bomb! LMNT would be a great sponsor for you too,Nikki.
Try samples first because the Stevia can cause stomach issues and the runs.. LMNT isn’t for everyone.
Awesome I’m getting ready for my solo camp and hike as well. Also I miss Tahoe watching these videos I lived there so beautiful 😍
Take care.
Way to go Nikki! Big meadow is tough with a heavy bag, I’m very impressed.
Camper is really coming around with the water, so cute.
another non-essential is the flextailgear mini air pump, i can fill up even an inflatable kayak, its a light and phone charger.
I admire your ability to carry that big backpack! I'm sorry you suffered the migraine...I know what it's like. The area you camped at is beautiful.❤❤❤
I was shocked to learn.I've done something you have not.And that is camped alone my entire adult life!!!❤❤❤
I love this!!! Yesss! Camper loves fishing 😂😂 it’s wild actually! If he spots a fish he pops right in!!!

He's come a looonnng way baby!!!! ❤️
Loved the time laps!
RV and Camper are so stinking cute!
I recommend salt sticks (brand name) or liquid IV for hydration, and more water ..
Just so beautiful there, you are so brave to camp alone and in a screen tent, Camper and Rodney are the best dogs.
Loved this Video Nik, good change of pace girl. Thanks!
Another awesome vid! 20 percent chance of snow sunday, above lake tahoe!! Grrr! Have fun and stay safe!
Does it snow there, year round?
@victoriasmith8570 nope! Usually not in August either! Grrr
I was impressed with the fact you carried a lot of weight and could even talk into the camera along the way! Felt bad for you with the migraine - must have been a long night of suffering yet you held it together. Always enjoy watching!
a bug net and long pants are a must for the bugs
Luckily you don't need that in Colorado and New Mexico......but definitely in Montana ya need that too!
I enjoyed camping like that just for the stars at night. Glad you enjoyed it and the boys didn't freak out in the tent.
Camptastic and Rodney Valentine 😂❤
The best of the best out there always having fun with a super positive attitude. Love you guys!
Wow! You brought the drone! Nice footage. appreciated!!!
Highly recommend getting your water from a still source such as the lake, dip just below the surface about 6 inches. Giardhea Cysts sink, but are stirred up in moving water and can float on the surface tension of a lake..
You look gorgeous as always. Another amazing video thanks for sharing. Stay safe out there Nikki.
I would never leave my dogs in my vehicle
22:28 what a beautiful sunset and view to fall asleep to.
FYI - guidelines for food storage from bears are 10 ft High into a tree and 4 ft away from the trunk of the tree. Also did you know that there are rattlesnakes in the Desolation Wilderness and mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe😮❤
That’s for hanging food in a bag. You don’t have to hang bear canisters
Fun video watching you solo backpack and camp for the first time! ❤
The folks who hike the Pacific Crest Trail have a base weight of packs of about 16 pounds.
just gotta say you are one of the most down to earth people on YT. I wish men had access to more women like you instead of all the garage we see on social media. Whoever is dating you should be very lucky. 🎉
waiting all morning for you
Love that you have been spending more time around the Tahoe area.
Hiking with dogs is just the best!!
Congrats Nikki on your solo adventure 😊 I'm sure you learned a lot about yourself and enjoyed the beautiful scenery 😊
Look at you pushing into the discomfort zone. High five 🤚🏻
I just bought a 4x4 to enable me to have more outside adventures, so I'm joining you in the nervous firsts of discomfort.
Awesome Nikki Camperthal. Wonderful views. Glad we could come along 😁. Such a shame about the cold coffee ☕😔. Till next time, stay safe 😄.
🤣🤣"come at me bros" i liked the trash talk to the mosquitoes
A walk in nature brings the soul back home!!!!
For mosquitoes, try using a mixture of water pure vanilla oil and tea tree oil. .
Hiking while narrating, operating camera, and guiding dogs -- never done that. 40 lb. pack, no problem! 😃
Awesomeness! Emergency flint or igniter! Lifesaver.
