I don't think even 25% of the VW owners purchased their cars because of safety. Safety is needed but not everyone keeps safety over anything. There are many more things which a lot of people want from cars over safety only on which they are going to invest

Their engines are super reliable we have 16 year old Alto and even now it is silky smooth. Their service network is unmatched and their service is also really good and affordable. Nowadays Maruti cars offer good features too.
The impact is still horrendous as comapred to crash tests of skoda vw mahindra tata , they habe scored 5 stars only because of 6 airbags and esp as stantard and mostly all cars will even new alto with 6 aiebags , this is more of a safety ratings test than a crash test .

Second car in India from Maruti to get GNCAP 5 stars, the first was S-cross that got 5stars from EURO NCAP & ASEAN NCAP in 2018 and now this from Global NCAP 2024. 2024 norms are actually more stringent and hence Full Marks to Suzuki India for making this fantastic change in Safety enhancement. It's not that they couldn't do it before. Considering the cost cut of their models, the safety of passengers wasn't a predominant factor for Maruti. But it's the rivals that forced them to do it. The real applause goes to TATA & Mahindra for making this happen!

It raises the question whether Maruti Suzuki was confident about receiving a 5-star rating in advance, which could be seen as a strategic move for promotion. I want to clarify that I'm not doubting Maruti Suzuki's commitment to car safety, but the partnership with AckoDrive for behind-the-scenes coverage at the GNCAP site seems very unusual, as I haven't observed AckoDrive doing this previously. Happy to be proven wrong though. Any thoughts?
When a company is confident and has had multiple crash test in its own facility... It's quite clever to put this out ASAP from a third party reviewers to get more coverage I think
In case you haven't noticed, GNCAP has been inviting him to cover the Safer Cars for India programme since 2014 when it launched. The first round, then Swift, Marazzo, XUV700, Slavia/Virtus, Wagon R, Verna, Carens etc. It is not a one-off in any way.

The big question is, is this test done for the Indian model, or the model meant for European and other countries. Usually, the Swift models meant for Europe used to get 4 starts in EURO NCAP. If this rating is for the Indian model, then it is a game changer!

I think, it is possible. Not because of any improvement from maruti's side, but because of 6 airbags, which is mandatory now.
