- This Chocolate Pie is a classic dessert recipe that everyone will love. A tender, buttery homemade pie crust filled with a decadent chocolate filling, this pie is perfect for any get together as you can make it ahead of time as it has to set in the fridge. The filling is softer than my chocolate silk pie, with a light, silky, rich character that you'll love!

This is my grandmother’s recipe! I mean, she didn’t create this recipe, she made these pies when I was a kid! We all LOVED this pie recipe! Thank you for sharing this! I thought we have lost the recipe after my Gma passed.
My ex MIL made this all the time. But she used a graham cracker crust. It's actually a recipe that used to be featured on Borden's canned milk wayyyyy back when. I thought I'd never see anyone else make this. I had never seen anyone make it before her or since she passed. I honestly don't know how come it's not more popular. It's so creamy and good!
Just noticed your 3.5 MILLION subs!!! You're the tops!! I love that you've stayed adorably, reliably consistent since the beginning!! Consistency is familiar and comforting, just like chocolate pie!! Please keep being you, John!! 🥧 🍰 🥰💕💕
Oops, just went back to your first video, and I guess things have changed a bit, but still! You've been reliably entertaining, consistently sharing great tips along the way! 🥰💕👍
Pie is just the best snack, breakfast, lunch, and dinner - in my opinion! Loved your strawberry pie recipe as well. We’d love to see a farm update / vlog on what you’re all up to recently!
Yes! I was thinking the same thing...we need an update!!!
You can literally put all the ingredients except the butter and vanilla in the pot at the same time and cook on medium heat until thickened. No need to temper the eggs. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla and then pour into the crust. The end result is exactly the same. Learned how to make chocolate pies from my grandmother.
Your pie crust recipe is the only one that comes out good for me. If I freeze it ahead, does it need to thaw any before blind baking?
my mom specifically asked for a chocolate pie this christmas.
I made this one. i followed your recipe/video as well as i eer have. and i am SOOOO impressed with myself lol
It turned out stellar and was so much easier than i would have ever expected.
Thank you for your videos and recipe site. You made a lifelong fan out of me. :)
My gran made this pie all the time when I was little. She would add a teaspoon or two of powdered sugar to the crust, it was so good! I make it now when I’m really missing her (needless to say I make it a lot). ❤
Chocoholic hubby trying to cut a few calories…so I spooned it into dessert cups instead of pie crust. Richer texture than pudding! Super decadent 🤤😋
This is my son's fave pie. Also, I need to tell you, I have a scale I didn't use much, but decided to use the other day. So much more convenient. Instead of a bunch of measuring cups to clean, I have the measuring bowl to clean! And of course, the improved accuracy.
This recipe is on the Hersey Cocoa cans. My moma made for over 50 years.
love love love the way you use your words...descriptive and enjoyable to the ear. You make me smile with each video. I wish I had your remarkable talent. 👍
I made this pie filling for Thanksgiving- and it was good and even better the day after!! It was amazing!!
The museum wax tip is incredible! I usually use a tea towel and it helps to a degree, but I'm definitely getting some of the wax.
My littlest will love this pie!
I know you're a busy Dad but I miss your full length Saturday morning uploads. They were such a great way to start the weekend!
Ikr 😞

You bring us such culinary delights !! Thank you John!
Made your chocolate pie and made 2 and everyone that has ate it said it’s the best they have ever had thank you so much
John I can't wait to try this. I made your buttermilk biscuits yesterday and I goofed. I put 1 1/2 sticks of butter, not 1 1/2 cups as the recipe called for. But they came out great. Everyone loved them. My mistake recipe is a keeper. Thanks
Excellent John thank you so much bless to you nd your family
i have been making this pie for holidays every time since i saw this ❤
I trust Preppy Kitchen, after it saved my day with its mashed potato recipe. I still make it just like he instructed. Who knew draining water from boiled potatoes could result in such creamier mashed potato! Such an insight it was. I trust your recipes and will try new one soon.
Yum! My mom made delicious chocolate pie and I haven't had any in quite a long time. I never have made it but am inspired to make some! Sometimes she topped hers with meringue and sometimes not.
i made this as my first pie and it turned out soo great!! it tasted delicious. however i did forget to add the butter and vanilla at the end haha. also, i reduced the sugar for my taste. thanks for the simple and easy recipe!❤️
Hi John, I made this pie yesterday and it was so easy and delicious! Your pie crust recipe is fantastic! Thank you!

I use a silicone coaster or silicone pot holder to keep my mixing bowls from slipping.
great technique and advice, and results yum 😋that’s exactly what I do with the mixing when I’m making Greek custard, like in galactobureko
I love watching you! I made the peach cake yesterday and it is delish! Also love the bird platters on the wall.
OMG chocolate pastry cream is one of my guilty pleasures already have all the stuff for it
Only John would call it “cheating” to pre-make a bunch of pie crusts with two small children 😅 ❤
A flat bottom whisk works terrific for what he’s doing investing one they’re awesome

I simply like it soft and silky as well!
Looks so delicious!! Can’t wait to try it! Thanks for sharing.
Im thankful for the museum wax tip! Its less than $4 on amazon and I just bought some for Diamond Art crafting. Yay! Now I know what to do with it

Looks amazing John! You're videos are always a joy to watch!
I just took brownies out of the oven and then I see this! The next time I get a hankering for chocolate baked goods, I’m making this!
I've been watching snippets of the movie The Help so, I just had to find this recipe.
Oh okay, so it's like a chocolate flavoured South African milk tart! 😊❤
John this looks like my father’s pie. It brings back loads of great memories. Thanks for sharing. 😊⭐️🍫🥧
That would be great in a graham cracker crust too!! 😋

Oh my goodness! I love a homemade chocolate pie!!!
So tasty.
This looks Perfect! I noticed the Patina on your pot and it looks lovely but if there is ever a time you want to remove some of it use French White Clay it does a great job and not as labor intensive as salt and lemon...j/s
This looks delicious. I think I'm going to make it and cover it in a layer of homemade whip cream
Looks great. 🙏
Amazing

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍 AWESOME ❗️CHOCOLATE PIE
John... love the tip about keeping your pie weights in the little foil "nest" for using over again. But why put the parchment in there, too?
Thanks for sharing !you make it look so easy! family of 8 melissa.
What would happen if you added the whipped cream with some of the chocolate mixture to give a two toned effect?
This pie looks amazing!

Chocolate pudding pie (as we called it) was my father's favorite pie.
Oh my gosh…..I opened RUclips and here’s this amazing deliciousness starring me in the face!! I can’t not make this tonight!! ❤
Also no I sometimes use a wet paper towel to put under my bowl to keep from moving❤
Hey JK! Looks delicious! Yum, homeade vanilla!
I love your videos never stop making them
Can’t wait to make it!
I'm going to have to make this for my next gaming session! Now I just need the crust recipe!!
A grandmother in my childhood church always brought a chocolate pie like this to monthly potlucks. A grandson of hers would try to get at least two pieces, which earned him repeated scoldings. ;-)
I have made a similar recipe for years but mine uses cornstarch rather than flour for thickening. Is there an advantage to one over the other? Does it affect texture?
This is my favorite pie! Yum!
delicious looking pie but I'm wondering what purpose the butter has at the end, its already thick and seems perfect for a pie shell, so why the extra butter
Thank you for your video!!!
I can't wait to try this recipe...but I wonder if you have a good recipe for a chocolate meringue pie. You know the ones topped with a meringue that is then lightly toasted. I looked through your videos, but didn't see one. My mother made these all the time and we could not get enough of them, but whenever I've tried, either the pie never sets up right, or the meringue sweets or some other issue. I just figure you might know how to avoid those problems. Thanks and love ALL your lovely recipes.
I just made your chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream yesterday. Made chocolate cake donuts a few weeks ago......time for chocolate pie!
Very delicious yummy!!
Mixed feelings.
On the one hand I know it's just a delicious chocolate pie but on the other hand I recently watched The Help.
I see that that chocolate bundt cake from a few videos ago hanging out! The pie looks so delicious!
So tasty!
YUMMY! I love ❤️ chocolate pie!
