I just made this pie and oh my I can’t believe how delicious it is! I’ve made so many of the recipes from Preppy Kitchen. Thank you John for your precise directions.
While trying to find a French Silk Pie Recipe for my boyfriend for Thanksgiving, I had about 10 tabs open with every recipe that looked good. Your tab was the second one that I opened and played. Needless to say, I just deleted all of the others because I have found THE ONE! Thank you for your wonderful instructions and especially your fun personality 🥰
I'm dying here for that pie! We use to have French silk at Poppin Fresh pies, later called Bakers Square. It was THE only pie I would eat, just heavenly
Such a great memory from growing up in Minneapolis! My absolute favorite - a cream pie WITHOUT a graham cracker crust and chocolate that tasted like chocolate YES!
I had never heard of French silk pie until I went to Chicago to visit some cousins when I was in middle school. We went to the Pie House and my cousin told me to order it. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I had never had anything so delicious before. It is the best pie that has ever been invented.
With how descriptive you are when it comes to the texture, consistency, and taste of what you are making makes every one of your recipes idiot proof and I appreciate that beyond belief. I’m also very jealous of your KitchenAid‘s. LOL ❤
I really like this pie. My memories are of my wife and I eating a desert with coffee at Shoney's or buying a pie to take home (or both). Your pie bets any I have ever tried. Well done!
I made this pie for Thanksgiving. It was a total home run! I made 3 pies, pecan, apple using 4 different types of apples and this French Silk. This pie was gone by the next morning. I will definitely make it again!
I have also been looking for that French silk pie, and I believe you nailed it! Thank you for all the hard work. Kids love it. Cannot wait to make for my sister. When we were young we both worked at a pie shop, so we have high standards. You are a gifted culinarian.
Finally found you on RUclips - WOW! Went through your recipes, saved a lot on the computer - then discovered YOU HAVE A COOKBOOK ! Went to Amazon and ORDERED your book! Cannot wait to receive it (Jan.4,2023)- so excited! Looking at your videos - so impressed - you are an absolute OUTSTANDING Chef/Baker/Cook! Thank you for bringing us such wonderful recipes for baking & meals. Judi
Baker's Square (formerly Poppin' Fresh) restaurants USED to have THE BEST French Silk pie. That was, until they started using high fructose corn syrup, and other horrible ingredients! Now, I never go there, any more! I will try this recipe, though. Thank you for posting this video, John!! 🙂
What’s the difference between French silk pie and chocolate cream pie? Please don’t judge I really don’t know. By the way I am planning to make this French silk pie for upcoming Christmas. I’m the fan of your recipes…tried so many recipes and everyone loves everything 😋
@@softness.in.healingChocolate cream is basically a chocolate pudding filling. Make a crust, chocolate pudding, pour into cooled crust, top with whip. French silk- is a thicker, buttery rich ,creamier, luxurious texture that sort of chalks off when you put your fork in, it’s impressive in every way. Chocolate pie is easier to make with less steps. Both are chocolate and tasty but this French silk is like eating dessert at a fine restaurant. I’ve made this pie. I added some finely chopped chocolate pieces into the finished silk mixture of egg, chocolate, butter, vanilla and whip cream before pouring into the crust- which, I used crushed thin Oreo cookies and melted butter instead of a butter pie crust be used here, once the crushed Oreos are well mixed into the melted butter it is equally spread and pressed into the pie pan and baked for about 10 min at 400 degrees. Cool it, fill it with the silk mixture and the chopped chocolate folded gently in, then top with the final whip cream and shaved chocolate. You won’t be sorry. Basically- Oreo cookie crust, French silk filling With chopped chocolate Topped with whip cream and shavings. It’s delicious and decadent.
@@kpo3704 wow that was so well said and explained. Thank you so much. Yes I definitely want the restaurants quality silk pie here, I love that description.
@@rea5690 You’re welcome. Also, with this recipe I doubled the unsweetened chocolate that is melted and then mixed into the egg and sugar, because I prefer a thicker filling. So, instead of 4 oz I used 8 oz to melt. When I used his recipe I was trying to re-create a French silk I’ve had, and it had a density to it that we really like, which is why I doubled the chocolate to 8 oz. It’s just really good.
John! I made this for Christmas. Started this morning. Ready for afternoon Christmas brunch. Sir, this was fantastic. The texture was elegant and the flavor perfect. Well done!
We made this for Thanksgiving and it was just as amazing as promised! Definitely a do-over and will be a favorite requested for birthdays and family get togethers for many years to come! Thank you for a great recipe and for such easy to follow instructions!
I have had so much fun making these recipes. The best part is how they are presented with such humor and patience: I am far more willing to try things that I normally would not have, and even better, I succeed. I just ordered the book and am super excited to try more!
Heya John! I’m a 14 yr old who wants to be a baker, I baked your recipe and nailed it first try. My sisters jealous because she never got it right in her attempts. THANKS JOHN!
Thank you for working on this recipe and making this video. I followed the original recipe for this pie twice before and could never get it to set quite right. Your recipe is huge improvement on the original in so many ways. It’s faster and leaves hardly any room for error. My pie was perfect on Thanksgiving, and I can’t wait to make it again for Christmas.
Hey thanks for all the baking tips! It’s saved friendships for me and helped me make more! Your energy also puts me in a good mood! I’m gonna bake the loft house recipe this weekend! Peace out, homie!
I can’t believe it! I wanted your book so much and my husband bought It for me as a surprise. Everything looks incredible I can’t wait to make these recipes!!!❤❤❤❤🙀🙀🙀🙀 I love you!!!
Looking so delicious pie , I love your recipe ,you make baking so easy and simple to make . definitely i will try this recipe ,Thank you for sharing decadent pie recipe

I made this just last night and wowza is it good!!! I love watching John's recipes! Another favorite is the toffee! I just had have a cookbook too! Thanks for all the great recipes!!
can confirm that this one is a winner, made a chocolate cookie crust instead of the traditional one but followed the filling recipe to a T and I was hearing compliments for days!
Me too, and, I folded some smaller chopped chocolate pieces into the silk after the whipped cream, before topping with the whip and shavings. It’s so good.
I've had French Silk Pie from Denny's way back when it was the best, topped with chocolate powder. Instead they changed it to chocolate drizzle, it didn't taste the same. Thank you for your recipe, I can't wait to give it a try. But, instead of chocolate curls, the powder.
Made this for Thanksgiving and it was awesome. Very rich. My husband (who almost never eats desserts) has now had two pieces. He compared the pie to a succubus - it was addicting and weakened his willpower😂.
I recognize that chocolate bar with the white wrapper. Brings back childhood memories of my mom using it to make chocolate fudge, the kind you have to beat for a few. Gimmie chocolate!
Yummy!! This recipe is going on my Thanksgiving menu, alongside your Pumpkin Pie recipe! Thank you for sharing. I don’t know if I’ll be brave enough to make my own crust, but the video you posted recently definitely helps! Thanks again for sharing and have a great day 💜
This is my all time favorite pie, too! I make it every Thanksgiving. Yiur recipe is similar to the one I usually use, so I ma going to try yours this year!
Thank you for this recipe. I made a pie this weekend and it was very good but the flavor is off from the French silk pies I fell in love with as a kid. I believe that tempering the eggs changes the flavor and that Ghirardelli chocolate tastes much more traditional than what what I was able to get this weekend, Guitard. I also prefer using egg whites to lighten the filling instead of cream. Finally, I think the cream and additional sugar made the filling to sweet. All said, though, it was a great pie. Thanks again. On to the lemon bars. 😅
Super great recipe! I made it for NYE. It didn’t take long to prepare and was super delicious. The chocolate curls on top were surprisingly easy to make and worked on my first try. It looked exactly like the video and people really didn’t think it was home made. Thank you so much for such accurate recipes!! ❤ ❤
Hi John, I am going to make two of your pies for thanksgiving, I just love your delicious pies. You are such a nice guy, and I want to wish you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Hey John! Wondering what tips you have to tell if a chocolate is high quality. Obviously price is an indicator, and then you can probably rely on some renown brands like Lindt, but do you have any other suggestions for spotting a good quality chocolate?
