Oh hell no! If a carpenter pulls that on me I bring a lawn chair to watch him re rough the line! As far as toilet location per UPC you need 15" clear left and right (30" overall) and 24" from the front of the bowl. I'm not sure if the baseboard heater qualifies as an obstruction, but you definitely need 15" to the wall.
I hear ya, but I think Chuck took "pleasing to the eye" over the 1/2" to make it code. Of course though, you always have the 1 dick inspector who wants to have a hissy fit over that, when common sense should prevail instead. I once had an inspector make me move a 4" C.I. Kafer wye I installed 1 foot cause I was over the max distance by code. Yep..I was pissed, but that's what I got for not paying attention.
Ya we made it work and I also went extra mile for George. aka General Thomas.....lol....its his place. besides carpenter was fired two carpenters ago....lol
At very least should bust up the floor. If he doesnt have any skin in the game he’ll do it again. Or send him a bill for it. That’ll get his attention.
so many questions... really a design thing. if you make a toilet in that nook, its not a good idea to put the baseboard there. 1., it takes up a lot of space. 2, its a damn toilet, you know urine and crap will spray in there, and rust that sucker out over time, and terrible to clean. there are better options like a thermaskirt. Also not a plumbing thing, but that slab seems relatively fresh, but I see no insulating layer below the concrete!!!!
not been there done that, not even close. But have changed quite a few bathroom baseboards because they rusted out from moisture and urine. never leaked, just the covers were rusted to crap.
it's hard to tell, interior bathroom, as long as the heat is always on the concrete will soak the heat up and even out. But usually we insulate here In NY on new pours. makes the room heat up faster as your only heating up the concrete and not the dirt below, and the heat dissipation is slower. maybe they left that area out intentionally? I don't see any moisture barrier either!
Here in California, its now common to hire day laborers from the Home Depot parking lot to build homes for pennies on the dollar. You see this shit more and more, in just about any home. My question is always "why the fuck are we paying for permits if inspectors never even use their tape measure?" Plumbing is only one small problem. The electrical issues, roofing, etc. that I have found is scary really. And who do you go after when the house is 20 years old when these problems have to be addressed? Great video! Keep up the good work.
One of my favorites jobs to do. Especially when you invest $1300 in Hilti Vac/Dust extractor and $1800 into Hilti DCH300 or DCH 230 Concrete dustless cutting saw. Lotssssss of money but I guarantee no dust to minimal and ofcorse Top dollar charged for such a job everytime. Good job Chuck and thumbs up to that other guy with Hilti tool 👊👊👊🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
I've got to move a toilet drain location in my basement as they beamed the block walls 10 years ago and now a beam sits right next to the toilet. The house was built in the 60's so I'm assuming an iron drain? How do you go about moving a toilet with older (non-abs) pipes to about a foot further away from the wall? Soil stack that connects to upstairs toilet is right in back of it as is. Or is there a way to do this above the concrete and use the existing drain? Thanks for any suggestions.
When you poured the concrete, did you drill holes and put rebar horizontally to add strength? I looking at doing the same thing and don't want the toilet to drop down after my fat *** sits on it a few times
Two questions: 1) Was that ABS plastic pipe? 2) I'm guessing you don't need to prime the joints before glueing? I'm from Australia and we only really use PVC sewer pipe here. Interesting to see the differences.
Carpenters did the same thing at one of ours Worksite the Superintendent of the job told them to fix or get back charged $5000.00. The Carpenters fixed it...
Ya that is odd should have been a piece of abs coming up through concrete never seen toilet line covered up before in my 25 years in plumbing good fix though
I like roughing in 13 off of unfinished walls to C, gives em room to put tile on in the future and then the tank lid doesn't touch my personal preference little extra half an inch of room to play with. the plumbing gods blessed you, least you didn't have to chip out the floor haha!
Hay Plumb buddy, why don’t you guys use a 4” x 3” Closet 90’s up in Jersey? That’s all we use here in big D. That way we can use a stainless flange that glues on the outside of 4” PVC. Just in case some one has very large bowel movement?....lol Take care buddy👍
Nice job Chuck! I have similar problem. I would like to relocate the toilet, which mean the toilet drain need to reroute to accommodate for the larger shower. How I find the plumbers that do this kind of work instead of water line plumbers?
I dont get it!? For a carpenter to make changes like that he has to ask for permission first from the owner, now did the owner tell you about the changes? If no, did you make prior arrangements and fees discussions? If yes, then did you charge more for the extended job? Fees increases after each consecutive hit on the same target! NO ONE makes changes to a homes architecture without the owners or title owners consent
Great Point...this job had no direction. This was discussed and then one day I came in and the wall was where it was. So many problems on this job. Thankfully Im done there.
I wouldn’t have centered it with the baseboard heater. Better to center it between the walls. The heater probably shouldn’t even be there, much too cramped. They will probably remove it one day and the toilet will look off centered. Even with the heater there the toilet is going to look off centered.
Hey there Chuck.... Wondering if had a chance to use Milwaukee's new adjustable 3-in1(name subject to change, as am unsure if finalized the tool for mass production) multi size pipe wrench? It's pretty nifty & actually liked it. Definitely give a try if able to get & would like opinion of it afterwards. Thx for the vids. Cheers, A😊👍🏻
an offset flange would have been close to fixing that! been to busy to watch... busy being, IT , plumbah, sparktrician, hv"h"ac/r, roofah, well/pump, wrench monkah, lumber jockey, caretaker etc. etc. etc. etc...... yeah, been in/on garage/driveways/roofs/basements/crawlspaces/attics,/server rooms/dug holes and more! wee bit busy all of a sudden =p
you know what's the problem with centering from the baseboard, now that I rewatch? the toilet is centered. great. but now the tank isn't centered on the back wall.....
Should checkout DeWalt's new concrete saw(saw it at World of Concrete 2019) as truly impressive for being cordless & running off of there battery platform. Also pretty easy to handle & use. Wish price was little cheaper, but if do lot of concrete work....would be very valuable 😉
thanks for tip....I rarely do concrete....only in this app....or sewers and water mains..I sub out...I can't do everything especially concrete removal.
Chuck Barron , its very easy to see the difference in the work done by a person collecting a paycheck, and someone who gives a 💩, especially when your work has your name on it.
My brother and I are doing this very thing right now. I’m watching this while he jackhammers out the concrete. Only thing is, the pipe isn’t the same material
Nice job Chuck! Keep in mind, if you had to, you could of went with a 14" rough toilet, but you had just enough room to make it work. I would of done the same thing you did, split the difference between the wall and baseboard. Also, stop posting video's of the soil you have there, I get envious every time you do. lol
I'm afraid I'd have just have taken a sawzall and demoed the wall and baseboard out, then put my toilet and flange where it was piped to :) or a gas can and match...... my oldest favorite saying ;)

Sounds like your seasoned , been there done that .
had to do it. no other place to put heat. The heat working great and no we did not insulate under the concrete. Is that normal?
not been there done that, not even close. But have changed quite a few bathroom baseboards because they rusted out from moisture and urine. never leaked, just the covers were rusted to crap.

A cove heater would have worked; radiant/convection up high, out of the way, affordable
how long it take to complete plumbing apprentice ?

So true. licensed and insured and in business for 27 years. there is a reason for all the above. There are some crazy stories out there for sure.
Do you happen to have a video of adding the plumbing for a toilet in a concrete floor? Where there was no toilet previously ?
Yes. we had to move it over a couple of inches.

they make some pump set ups but Im not a fan.
Been there done that, they decided to get a larger tub used a st 16th bend
fun fun fun
@@ChuckBarron GET ER DONE
When you poured the concrete, did you drill holes and put rebar horizontally to add strength? I looking at doing the same thing and don't want the toilet to drop down after my fat *** sits on it a few times
Unless you weigh 600 lbs, shouldn't be a problem. And if you do then you got bigger problems than plumbing.
Flashback from Vietnam, that was funny. Nice job relocating the toilet drain pipe
Classic

1) Was that ABS plastic pipe?
2) I'm guessing you don't need to prime the joints before glueing?

Yes and yes to both. No primer needed. Thanks Vz
Haha, did they spray that chrome toilet shut off valve white when painting the walls?
Naaa...lol we had it covered with tape
very nice, but u didnt clean the cement out of the pipe before gluing???????????
oh no.....what i miss?
Thanks. Did you install extra pipe above the concrete so the person installing the flange can cut it to size?
No need. I set flange also.
What kind of concrete did you use? Can we see the finished product? Is there a concern with the new concrete splitting or cracking?
just sand mix and tiled over. Looks greats. been a year already I think.
@@ChuckBarron Are metal dowels needed to secure the new concrete?
U have an old m18 Milwaukee sawzall. I have the newer one and it cuts like a charm
no that was General Thomas's. I am about to purchase one.
