    I've been plumbing for 20 years now. I've found that having the flange FLUSH with the finish floor is best, if not upto a 1/4" BELOW finish floor. Too many times I've found wax rings completely squished out and not providing any real seal to the flange, just porcelain to plastic, or they simply rock because the toilet is being pushed up by the flange and the base of the toilet isn't allowed to sit on the floor. I see there's at least one plumber in the comments saying to set the flange on the finish floor but I have to 100% disagree. You can always stack a flange higher, use a MaxWax ring, etc., but you can never make a flange lower.... In your case, I would have set the flange to the concrete tightly, then anchor with tapcons (the glue will NOT suffice to hold you toilet down). Your Johny bolts are pulling up on the flange as you tighten your toilet down, so you want to be pulling against the concrete, NOT the glue/plastic. THEN take you floor AROUND your flange with a 1/4" gap.
    Having your flange above your floor, that you aren't supposed to pinch/weigh down seems counter productive to me.
    ...sorry I didnt start watching your channel earlier, since this was a year ago or so you get my best 20/20 hindsight. Any way, thanks for the vids, I enjoy this series a lot!

      I was always told to use purple primer and go up 2-2 /2 in up on both pipes allow for primer to dry not completely but no runs or drips bc it's a primer it also won't allow the glue to adhere dif codes different cities go video tho

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      Primer is not required by Oatey, even says so on the can. But you must follow local plumbing code. Florida's says primer is not required up to and including 4 inch DWV piping as long as the glue meets a certain ASTM spec, Oatey glue does meet this spec.

    New install very nice on them toilet flanges. Clean. Had to replace a rocky toilet flange only to find out the drain pipe was just a little (like half) off the mark too close to the tub so they had to put in a 45 degree adapter to get the flange to center up properly (tub to opposing wall). So now ya 'half' to lean on the dump LoL Great work always a pleasure seeing ya video popup in the feed!!

    thus, flange is better to be level with finished floor, then a Fernco FTS-3 toilet seal can be used instead of messy wax or rubber gaskets (has a depth of 3" that can be inserted into toilet flange IF, inside pipe is 3" not less), check your plumbing supplier for this excellent toilet flange gasket

      They make clear primer as well. Contrary to popular belief it's not required (at least in Florida plumbing code) as long as it's non pressurized pipe up to and including 4 inch. The glue must meet ASTM 2564 standard as well, Oatey does.

    Hey Andrew, you didn't leave an expansion gap around the flange and screws. These LVP floors really do move around and it will cause you problems if you don't go back and correct that. You can probably just cut a small ring of material out from around each flange that the toilet will cover so you don't have to do any major rework. Otherwise, everything is looking really nice. It's fun watching this all come together.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 года назад +2

      I did around the flange, but not with the screws. I'm willing to risk that small area won't be a problem. If it is, I can always cut the flooring back from the flange.

    code or state requirements, primer is a must for low temperature applications when underground piping is installed in cold or even shoulder seasons and glue is more of a gem then liquid, when pipe is dirty and need cleaned but for warm temperatures inside finished house (insulated) it won't matter it doesn't help.
    As about color of the primer, purple is no doubt a bonus for drainage installations where inspector is not your best friend..put it this way

    If my 4inch rough in comes out of the floor slightly angled- do I have to redo it or is it possible to still fit the flange on?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад +1

      Depends on how severe the angle. Luckily the foam ring and or wax seal you use will take up some of the inconsistencies. But you need your bolts to line up as well. A small angle I can't see hurting, a severe angle and I'd redo it.

    Fabulous job. The only thing I would add is I'm not a fan of primer on toilet flanges.
    Light glue and no primer makes it so if you ever have to remove the flange for whatever reason you probably can (carefully) without destroying it or what's around it. The toilet weight keeps it there. Also always after drilling first hole install a screw to make sure you didn't over drill it.

    Yes, Andrew I did learn something I was not aware of the SS toilet flanges and another great installation on the flooring. I could not see how far you ran the flooring in the "linen closet" in the bathroom. Were you able to get back in there to lay the floor? 👍👍

    Great job nice & clean flange install! However, I believe as per manufacturer LVF you're not supposed to screw the toilet flange into LVF! You need a 1/4 gap around the perimeter & flange for expansion & contraction. It's a floating floor system which I'm sure you know. I watched tons of videos on how to install & read Home Depot Lifeproof instructions. Because I'm going to install Lifeproof in our bathroom.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Месяц назад +1

      That is true, but on a floor this small with expansion gaps each direction at the wall, I am not concerned.

    I enjoyed watching your video and from my experience installing rough-in plumbing and renovating homes I can say this is a good primer for diy'ers. One thing I wanted to point out if you don't mind. You mention concrete a few times when I think you actually meant thin-set mortar for cement backer boards. I'm sure you know concrete is for slabs and has aggregate in the mix and would never work as a mortar application. The first timer may actually go out and buy concrete mix.
    Please correct me if I'm wrong but I also noticed a slope tapering from the flange where the thin set mortar was applied. If that is a slope my though is this will cause the toilet to rock or not sit flat.
    I also wanted to ask how you determined the location where the hole will be cut in the floor for the flange? Your hole saw cut was precise, but I don't see where you marked the center of the 4" DWV on the plank flooring to get that precisely accurate hole. Perhaps you measured and drew the plan with dimensions in advance on grid paper, with the precise center of the DWV on that plan view. Thank you.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад +1

      That tiny slope was absorbed by the flooring padding. There is zero rock in our toilets. I laid my flooring down until the hole was mostly covered and found center. I made that mark on the flooring and finished laying. The hole saw has a center bit, so I went back to that mark with the center but and cut it out.

      Sounds like you have old cast iron piping, it's been obsolete for a long time. I am not familiar with that kind of pipe to give you a good response.
