I use curved and tried going back to flat. Can’t. Feels Distorted to look at a standard display now
@@darthradon not only gaming. Once you get used to a 120hz monitor everything looks super choppy at 60hz even just scrolling. Years ago since I got a 120hz display phone I can't use a regular phone which Is why I had to stay on Android for so long. iPhones and everything at 60hz looked awful. Same with monitors no way I'm using something that's 60hz. Even 120hz is low but not as noticeable

This is a nice monitor, still keeping my AW3423DW though. Also not the biggest fan of these sponsor videos that are just talking points about the monitor as opposed to an actual review with testing. Especially with the response time claims which are always worse than advertised.

This why alienware says that it has 0.1 ms response time but people dont get that its actually a 10x difference meaning the VA panels have 13 ms and aleinware is 1 ms for a total refresh
@@cybyrd9615 Testing done by hardware unboxed showed that the G7 did hit 1ms gtg response times so it's not unlikely the G8 will meet this too.

The paper specs of this screen are great and it looks great when it works. But the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere have been rough. Scanlines at refresh rates about 165Hz, HDMI issues, other bugs. Plus, local dimming seems to be failing on the Samsung miniled TVs this year.
In short, best to wait until things stabilize before buying this.
It rarely EVER pays off being the first adopter.

yea samsung quality assurance on monitors is attrocious, do not buy 1st wave of anything from samsung, even 2nd wave is still not fully fixed. They look great on paper and at first impressions but give it a few weeks and all the cracks come out.
Bought a CRG90 a few years back. Had the left half of the screen flickering. They came and replaced the power control; from what I could see the monitor was kinda half and half and (fused/stitched?) into a single 32:9 monitor. A week later the other half started flickering. Again they came and fixed it. Then an entire row and a column of pixels went full green. They came and replaced the control board. It's been working fine since but I've lost a tonne of confidence in Samsung displays.
@ProfessorMambo I got the g7 28" 4k 144hz monitor and it runs perfect, better than my MSI Optix 27" 1440p 165hz which has ghosting on a 2d mmo game I play when my character runs

In MY OPINION ONLY this is a tier above the Alienware. MY REASONS: 240hz vs 175, 2000nits max vs sub 1000 (the Alienware is quite dim for full screen brightness), this is 4K vs 1440p wide, a way better anti reflective screen, and it shows text better (Alienware has a weird subpixel layout). IN MY OPINION there is no competition, this Samsung is a significantly superior display overall

@@davidyang9902 I agree that the Neo G8 is better, but the nit peak brightness argument does not 100% hold up. The Alienware is QD-OLED and those displays can have a lower peak brightness while still displaying a better picture for HDR content.

Bruh just imagine how insanely good the battlefront sequel games will definitely look like, given how those games do have tons of dark and shadowy areas per map. Especially maps like Endor that looks very cinematic

the intro was amazing - it showed the difference. I was thinking of upgrading from my ASUS PG279Q into a 1440p LG. I will wait until OLED or some new technology comes out that is a full Upgrade. I have LG OLED's as TVs , I really wish they can bring them to monitors that are not overly expensive.

I'm thinking price the Alienware will have it beat. It is really hard to beat $1300 for a ultrawide OLED, while it isn't 4k, it's so damn impressive for that price.
I have both and while yea the qdoled wins in blacks and a bit with colors. The g8 gets damn close and can get brighter with the bonus of having a noticeably lower input latency and 4k crispness. They both trade blows so much I've had a hell of a time the last couple days deciding which one to keep. In the end i think ill be keeping the g8 for the faster 4k screen (input latency wise) and normal aspect ratio, (never did get to sucked into the Ultrawide thing). The HUGE drawback of the G8 is that samsung QC is absolute shit, I have already returned one monitor for 9 dead pixels showing up within 24 hrs of owning it. That being said the aw3423dw has a good share of issues as well in the department like non updatable firmware, so idk

@@zhgfng it doesn't even come close in overall latency which is the thing that matters the most whilst gaming.
response times of oleds are much faster
@@zhgfng not in pixel response times, oled wins there, its the input lag times that are kinda high on the oled and makes fast paced shooting a little more floaty feeling compared to the faster g8 input lag

Man this is the perfect fit for my monitor needs, curved screen for audio timeline editing (plus gaming) UHD 4k and a refresh rate above the limited 60hz that everyone else offers, yet not one single place sells them in the UK ☹
I'd perfer a comparison between a different VA gaming monitor of a few years ago vs an IPS panel . VAs are going to have darker blacks over IPS panels so it's hard to get a grasp of the mini led vs regular in this comparison.
First off I want to say, thank you for the videos you’ve been putting out you’ve helped me through a lot of shit, I’ve noticed you’ve not been posting as much, I just want this message to bring you motivation, to all the funny moments on your podcast and even before Bitwit when it was Awesomesause some of the jokes you’d say when you was critiquing peoples builds was insane, even when you did promos the Ads where entertaining. I’m not saying what I’m watching today isn’t funny or entertaining, but I notice a difference. I hope everything is going good with you brother!
I'm just using a LG C1 48" OLED screen. Looks good, and the latest firmware did resolve the over-aggressive dimming tech.
The only issue is well its not curved _(not a big issue),_ 48" is a tad to big _(I know about the C2 42" but it costs more atm and not worth upgrade as its same screen basically),_ and the lack of Display-Port 2.0, but that is likely because DP2.0 isn't even out for GPU's yet and 1.4 can't do the job.
HDMI2.1 has the drawback of being blocked for open-source software for unknown reasons. DisplayPort anyone can use without penalty! So it is better but behind HDMI in display bandwidth currently.
Yeah don't get this. Just get a C2 42in if anything. I'm got the 65in cx. I'm way back in my game room. Watch TV, movies and good for gaming. But that 42in c2 is what I'm getting next. I have the big boy c2 and cx already
i picked up the 48 inch c1, as long as you're about 3 feet away sitting its fine
LG48C1 at arm and fingertip distance is unbeatable! 4K HDR 120Hz VRR.

I currently have a Samsung smart TV probably second generation that only does 1080 P and a 23 inch Dell monitor for gaming neither of which are very good. So that said if I were to be able to for just one what would you recommend as a gaming TV that I could use for both movies and some light gaming?

Thought about buying a Samsung monitor a little while ago, but now that I know of this one, I might try to get this one, if they even sell it in Australia.
With all these new display technologies coming out I wish we could get a video of TN versus IPS versus qled versus OLED versus quantum dot versus mini LED versus anything else that's out there.
Qd Oled>oled> doesn't matter
Quantum dot is overrated IMO. I've had 2 first gen quantum dot monitors and 2 recent mid level quantum dot tvs, all Samsung. The colors are too unnatural and distracting in movies and really bad viewing angles. For gaming these things are less of an issue, but don't really add much to the experience either . The motion was about average for a VA panel , give or take depending on model . Certainly not worth buying it new, IMO ( though you'll have benefit of returning it)
OLED blows away quantum dot, IMO.

I run dual LG 27GN750-B and had thought they were amazing. I actually think I bought them after seeing them featured on your channel. Thanks for showing me just how inferior my monitors are, Kyle. I love this hobby but damn is it expensive. Money comes and goes but gaming in clarity such as this is priceless.
I run 2 of them as well. They were pretty hard to get my hands on as they were sold out everywhere for a long time. I think they were like $900+tax each, too. Not planning on replacing them any time soon.

I have the 27GN950-B as well and now I'm seriously questioning whether I should buy a this one! I just wish it came in a flat version, would be my absolute dream monitor then.

I just got the LG 27GP950 and it’s the best monitor I’ve ever had. I’m happy with it. It will do for me. Just need to get my old 24inch 4K monitor placed beside it. I’ll save that project up for the Autumn and a rainy day.

Interesting that you didn't do a side by side with something new and in the price range. Not to mention, user reviews on Amazon for all of the Odyssey monitors are SCARY.
I have Odyssey G9 and it is bad. The scanlines are getting worse. 1500€ for a display and quality is this. Never ever I will buy another Samsung monitor.

i have a c2 and its awesome for this i think paying this amount of money for a monitor its insane, rather have this 42 in as a cinematic gaming experience and a 1440p monitor for gaming.

Great review and side by side comparison. I would love to see how it stacks up next to the BENQ Mobiuz EX2710U or even EX3210U. While still an IPS monitor Benq are notorious for great color accuracy. But I can only imagine it would look very similar to the comparison shown in this video since the LG is very similar to the Benq Mobiuz. All in all great review!! Just wish I had the desk space for something like this. Buttttt I do have the QN90B 43" TV from Samsung and that thing is stunning for gaming.
I'm very excited to get my Neo G7 tomorrow. Not sure if the only difference between that one and this is the refresh rate, but I think 165 is more than enough for 4k gaming, and I've already seen the G7 overclocked to 200, so hopefully the experience will be largely the same as this one.
How have you been liking you Neo G7? mine comes in Wednesday!
@@zacdavis7 It's amazing. My only problems are 1. It's not OLED. The FALD being really nice, but can't compete with an OLED. 2. Mine, and I think most others, has a scan line issue.
@@DarthShadow25 Ive been gaming on my LG G2 83 inch oled and its just way to big for competitive gaming. I sold my pc set up about a 6 months ago so I’m getting back into it And ordered the neo G7 for ps5 until I build another pc.

As much as miniLed progresses it’s always gonna be behind Oled unless something significant happens. There’s a laundry list of things that makes Oled superior. It’s only downside is peak brightness but really that’s been improving a lot each generation and honestly I feel like LG CX peak brightness is at the perfect spot but having some leg room is nice but the C1 and C2 definitely has that leg room now. Lcd brightness is kinda stupid being that bright, people that prefer it are the same people that max out the sharp setting on TV’s
No reason to even touch an LGCX or C2, the Sony versions are better in every way.
Most OLED's use PWM and are not flicker free and usually operate at a low frequency making them useless for people who are sensitive to PWM or people who are cautious about eye health.
@@jakkiryanov9859 LG Panels don’t. And most Oled TV’s use LG panels so that’s not true. Maybe years ago but not now. Now when it comes to small OLED screens that’s more prevalent
@@drunkhusband6257 you know the Sony ones are just overpriced LG Oleds right? Sony uses LG panels. Really the only difference is Sony uses a better ai up scaling chip but you wouldn’t really noticed much of a difference besides watching older movies on older formats. Even side by side tests it’s a small difference but there’s also things that make LG ones better than Sony for gaming. Pretty much if your focus is watching lower resolution movies and you are willing to pay a premium for a small improvement then Sony is your guy but if you wanna game LG is better for gaming. Either way the difference is small besides the price. I usually try to get Sony products but when it comes to Oled it’s just not worth it.
@@gex581990 The biggest draw in picture quality on my sony vs the LG is the reality creation feature, it completely brings out the details in scenes and objects where it is blurry on the LG. The Sony is also a bit brighter on average with better colors due to color boost options.

I just moved from a 60Hz monitor to a 144Hz monitor. When playing F1 22 I'm actually 2 seconds a lap faster because my inputs are translated to the screen faster allowing me to be much more precise. I always felt that racing games felt kind of lethargic and I didn't think it was the monitor after all of this time that was the reason for it. I wonder what 144 to 240 would feel like.
It will feel like a more snappier 144hz monitor is the best I can describe it

@@GameChangerPlayz23 I only play fps games and my main is sniping. And the higher the refresh on the display the easier it is to track esp if the target is far away. Since you're not teleporting as much on a 360hz. And that's how I can easily tell the difference between monitors

I bought an Alienware AW3423DW, 34" QD-OLED, and I'm never going back. Flat-out the most amazing monitor experience I've ever had, and that was before calibration, that took it to >100% DCI-P3. It makes my really nice 75" QLED TV look like pure crap. 😆

I also have the same ultragear monitor that you do and I agree 100% that the contrast ratio and backlight bleed made me have major buyers remorse, I should have waited for the neo G7 or G8 but I was an idiot.
That looks amazing but I just can't get behind the curve. I prefer a flat screen. Hopefully Samsung and other companies will utilize this same tech in some flat screen options in the future.

@@connorring597 Myself and many people use multiple monitors and having curved monitors makes it impossible to put your monitors side by side.

I love his stuff but you can tell so easily that he's reading off a script by the sponsored company with their "excite" words to show off the piece. I wish it was just him in his usual vloggy style talkin about what he does n doesn't like instead of just the monotone script. It just feels forced but that's just me, Kyle is still doing what he loves and thats what matters.

Was going to get the g7 as my next monitor, will probably save up for this g8 version now.
When I update my graphics card, I might get this monitor or the G9. I would like it better if it was in black with the blue RGB lighting.
It's still a VA panel though, and while it looks good in the black areas, in vivid colorful pictures it looks washed out compared to an IPS panel.
maybe for older va, not so with these newer quantum dot ones, they excel in vibrant color more than anything else
@@mainsource8030 I literally just bought a gigabyte FV43U monitor. My old LG 43 ips tv had far better color, it also had far better color than the Sony KD-43X85J. Both are VA panels.

I want to buy this but i am not sure if the quality control is good and if the blooming is not as bad as some say.
Also the HDR2000 is not real it can't hold 2000 nits for long time.
HDR 1000 is already too much, my eyes get painful after an hour with the g9 on minimum brightness. Believe me, long HDR 'holding' has absolutely no benefits.

@@drunkhusband6257 I mostly use it later in the day so the room is a bit darker, in the day I rarely go past like 40% brightness, and that's with everything in dark mode, 100% would be like looking at the sun, how are your retinas holding up?
@@drunkhusband6257 there are also some settings which change it massively, I can't remember the name of it but there is one on/off switch which changes the brightness massively, make sure it is on, you won't have to do 100% and it will look crisper

It’s VA. It has to be curved to preserve image quality. Also an ultrawide is only 2 inches bigger
I have a curved non ultra wide odyssey g5 and it is a good monitor. The curve is something that I barely notice when I am using it.
The cost of mini LED is a waste on 1440p. Who wants to pay over $1000 for a 1440p monitor in 2022? Honestly The only way this tech is trickling down into lower resolutions is if it becomes dirt cheap to implement.

Well I returned my LG ultra gear 32 inch 950-B for the Samsung odyssey Neo G8 I get it tomorrow . I hope it blows me away compared to the LG .

@@SeriesDmusic it was better but it was doing strange stuff from time to time like it didn’t like 1440P when using my ps5 and didn’t want to play in 4K … the G8 didn’t like 1440P at all … I didn’t try it at 240 Hz because I don’t have a PC but people have complained about scan lines so it went back to and I ended up getting the 42 inch C3 instead and to be quite honest, I like it a lot better than both of those monitors
I hope they make this in a 32" 1440p 240hz model as well. Looks fantastic.

Still behind a 42" C2 or the OLED Alienware, except the 240Hz, which make no sense anyway at 4K unless you wan't to play R6S or CSGO all day.
The C1 48” is a better choice for gaming. It still has backlight strobing at 120hz which the c2 has not.
The Alienware OLED is straight garbage. The picture and the resolution suck. After seeing the Neo G8 in person, I wouldn't take that Alienware OLED if you gave it to me for free.
So shame! Samsung pay to all reviewers to blind they eyes! Power of money!

Not liking the fact that this is an sponsored video, the "attack" at LG here is almost shameful really. There are proper HDR monitors already starting to show up. Those are the ones this should be compared againts, not non-HDR IPS or even VAs. Will wait for a proper unbiased review by Hardware Unboxed.

I'm not sure Control was the best example for HDR, since it doesn't technically support HDR natively. That said, in my own experience Windows 11 Auto HDR does pretty well with it, so it certainly looks better than standard SDR, but it's not the night and day difference proper HDR games have.
I got one of these a couple of weeks ago and was blown away, I upgraded from an Acer Predator X28 which was a 4k 144hz IPS display with the basic HDR400 that isn't really worth using.
My experience with the monitor so far is that it's almost perfect for someone who's on the lower-end of the hardcore gamer spectrum, I really want my games looking good, but I also want a good framerate, I run a 4090 and like customizeable stuff like my peripherals for a competitive edge, to put things in to perspective.
For casual gamers and anybody who appreciates higher-end stuff, this monitor is perfect, but the more picky people like myself will notice the scanlines at 240hz and the occasional bit of blooming from lighter colours surrounded by black. I personally don't think the scanlines are an issue for 99.9% of people, I sit almost a meter away and can't see them besides on some shades of blue, green and yellow mostly on my Steam library. The curve is also far less offensive than I expected. So the only real issue is the blooming, which in the majority of content isn't an issue anyway.
There are technically better monitors available now like 4k 240hz OLED displays, but for most PC users I think a Mini-LED is the better option, I don't personally want to have to change the way I use my PC to avoid burn-in. At this point it's a race to see whether OLED's issues get fixed first or Mini-LED panels get enough dimming zones to look like an OLED.
Your comment was helpful as I'm considering getting this. I don't see myself needing to play at 240hz as I'm happy even at 60hz and I play mostly RPGs...so 120hz should be perfect for me. The only thing that I can't believe they sold this with is that wobbly stand. Absolutely ridiculous. I've already started researching desk mounts which should be able to hold this fine. Worst case is a wall mount which I prefer not to do since we rent.

Very solid monitor review
There is a lot of color banding on the red shade Control scene when displayed on the Samsung G8 vs the LG, can anyone confirm? Also, don't know if this is because of how this was filmed but there is a lot of detail lost in the same scene, on the G8. Look at the top of the tower, pure pink vs the reddish but still with tower detail scene from the LG.

I had 2 and they both had scanline issues, the backlight died on the first one, the 2nd one had even worse scanlines than the first one, eventually got a refund

How would this monitor be for work? I hear a lot of complaints about the new DELL/Alienware monitor around text display. does this monitor have the same issue?
I was going about my day with my "32GP83B-B - 1440p/165hz monitor" which is a nano ips monitor until i seen this. Makes my nano ips look dull and doesn't even come close to the snap you get on the samsung when it comes to contrast and colors.

I have acer x34gs and x34 the x34 is better on corner blooming actually,besides that the x34gs has OLED quality, and I hear the the Alienware AW3423DW has problems regarding netflix/ streaming and editing resolve blender etc. what to do for me now?
The benq ex2510 is a fantastic monitor for colors in 1080p. i watch movies on it with monitor speakers
