  • So I hit a bus… By popular demand, here’s the Government Bus Story. Dash Cams will save you or hang you - the video doesn’t lie.
Southbound, Pacific Highway, Chatswood… a minor accident with a Government Bus. Who’s at fault? The Dash Cam holds the answer.
Trucking stories - it’s all an adventure, most nights driving a truck is totally uneventful but others not so much. When you’re a truckie, you’ve always got to expect the unexpected… sometimes it’s a bus driver scared of telegraph poles jumping out in front of him. Life’s one great mystery but ultimately the video doesn’t lie.

I drive this stretch every week, driving pantechs & tippers around the area. This isn't even a particularly bad spot! Whilst the bus drivers do a great job overall they aren't the best of neighbours.

I swear bus drivers have got a lot worse over the past several years. I’ve unofficially heard that in some companies they train the drivers to drive aggressively to get the job done.
I believe it I had one look directly at me before pulling out in front of me just last week. It was a quiet area and I was the only car on the road.

WTF was that bus driver thinking is what I really want to know. Swerving around the poles. Maybe they were worried that they may hit one with their left mirror, but if that is the case, they really need to learn how to drive.

They are desperate for drivers at the moment especially in the bus world. I have seen some shit driving trailers north to Newcastle from Sydney, West to Bathurst and south to Canberra.
Best one I had with a bus was when I was in a small curtain sider Medium Rigid goin through Dee Why South Bound past the DY main bus stop where 4 lanes turn to 3 with lane one in the 3 being the bus lane painted red. I was in lane 2 in the 3 lane section and this bloke pulls a B line out from the bus stop into his bus lane then over into mine and runs his side mirror down my curtain then BANG hits the frame work of the body at the ass end of the truck.
Needless to say the camera caught me mouthing fuck me dead and when I managed to return after unloading to a public transit hilux with its blinkers on in front of the bus they both go: 'What were you thinking' I was beyond puzzled that they were trying to put it on me when the silly bastard steered into my lane after I cleared him past my wing mirror..
The funniest part was going to their yard and seeing their pool table and massage chair (This was before the liberal turds privatised it) and I got his info.. His name was Bong.. I was smiling ear to ear. I could not help myself hahaha nice bloke but no idea about driving. Was wild. I felt sorry for the bastard though as he said he travelled a long distance to get to work.... over an hour each way. I messaged him later after finding out state transit were trying to recover damages from Post and laughed but told him from driver to driver no hard feelings and stay safe out there... Bus drivers do a tough bloody job I will give them that but some do not belong behind the wheel.

The bus driver was weaving around more than is needed in this example but you would not believe how scary it can feel when other heavy vehicles are overtaking. have a safe and happy time on the roads in the future.

  • @adamcook8933

he may have been in the wrong legally but if you looked ahead you would have seen the left bend coming up and known that the bus would have had to come slightly to the right to avoid the back wheel hitting the gutter. you to would have known that by the time you got to the bend the rear of your trailer (assuming you had one) would have veered into the left lane, you could have helped to avoid that, it's not always about who is right and who is wrong, all drivers especially heavy vehicle drivers need to read the road and conditions and make smart decisions. i hear it from motorbike riders all the time blaming other vehicles, yes they may be in the wrong but you're the one who is going to get killed so you pay extra attention and avoid risk

  • @manxdune

Given that the camber of the road can drop off quite sharply close to the gutter and that the pole are set right at the gutter i can see what is making the bus driver be overly cautious.

Here in British Columbia, Canada they're still called hydro poles. Electricity here comes from hydroelectric dams and BC Hydro sells the electricity hence hydro poles.
