Rob! Mate! This video is a career changer! Unhooked & hooked up my first set of trailers the other night in a lighting storm in Melb and had this vid guiding me the whole way through… shame they don’t teach this part as thoroughly in the HC license courses. I left my course feeling lost re coupling trailers but then found your video mate and boy did it help the other night! Keep pushing this content out mate! Us young blokes in the industry starting out need em!
Thnxx alot mate i was anxiously waiting for this video as you said in your previous.i recently got my MC license definitely this video will help me out
He didn't once mention that some trailer's have a manual height control valve for the airbags.... Which can be used to raise or lower the trailer or truck when hooking up a trailer
I didn’t mention height adjustable airbags on European trucks either. There are a lot of variables. When I get the time I’ll do a much more involved video covering all of that using a full double.
G’day Benny, would you be American by chance? Unlike American Glad Hands, Australian truck/trailer air fittings are quick connect male and female couplings. Once you’ve coupled the fittings there is a safety collar that locks the fitting so it can’t be accidentally released.
@@freesbrisbane i agree ,you must take control of the brakes as soon as possible in case the trailers slack adjusters are worn and she tries to run away from you.
@kellyboon4918 you are 100% correct. If the slack adjusters are worn the trailer will start moving back whilst trying to couple, maybe slip off the turntable and while minimal damage will occur (because your legs are only 2 inch off the ground) you’ll end up with stretched (possibly) and grease covered Suzi coils as they drape over the turntable. The rules are PLL (pin, legs, lines) when coupling and LLP (legs, lines, pin) when uncoupling. Everything else is totally correct, including crawling under the trailer to check that the jaws (Holland Hitch) or safety bar (Jost) are behind the pin.
Any chance you could show us examples of the fixed and ball race turntable , where the blocks are / look like and how to remove, etc Thanks for the videos, there very well done 👍

Agree with everything in this vid.
I never turn my back to the traffic flow.
Old mate on the bike was close enough for my liking.
indeed he was. I got a bit of heat for not wearing a hi-vis vest too.
Brought up a few points not mentioned in any other coupling vids, good stuff 👌. Subbed
This is an excellent video. Great work.
Lot of the older trailers the blocks were welded to the skid plate to .

Nice explainer, Rob.
Ballrace's are mainly use on tippers & tankers
Live stock trailers also.

7:47 turn the collars? I didn't get what you were saying. Can you please explain lil bit more. Cheers mate

G O A L Get Out And Look is Very good reminder .
Some turntables have two release handles.....
But why did you do it in such hazardous location?
That’s were the trailer was left. Not the most ideal location agreed, but I had time and it was daylight.
How you Gunna hook up to a 90mm kingpin with 50mm jaws on your turntable....
Get a run up
Why would I try?
Didn't see a tug test done
Watch again, you’ll see it from two angles.
There's a right process for hooking up & unhooking.... Airline's are the last thing to be unhooked
Shouldn't have hooked up air when he did
I disagree. A lot of combinations don’t have room for you to hook up air/electrics once you are hooked onto the pin.
Now you're speaking through your arse..... If the trailer was that close then it would hit the cab.... Think about

You're definitely of a fixed turntable isn't right
Please explain. I’ve explained both fixed (qrtt) and ballrace and the difference.
Some setups only have a ballrace.... How are you Gunna unhook that
A ballrace is not a turntable
