    As someone who went from car to class 1 reversing isn't easy and as a newly qualified I would recommend asking the company who has hired you if you can practice in their yard (you probably won't be able to do this however if you work through an agency). A large yard like in this video is fantastic and do as Raul does and use the space of the yard to try and get that trailer straight enough so you can just back it into the bay. There are also other yards around the country like ALDI supermarket yards who will say at the gatehouse "park it on bays 65 to 76.. if this is the case I recommend on approach (if you can) choose a bay that doesn't have other trailers around and get some practice in.
    All of these tips however are all well and good until you get to a tight yard.... and my tip for a tight yard is this.. drive past the empty bay and get that unit and trailer at an angle (like in the video) and then just aim for the space leading up to the bay... don't worry about getting the trailer lined up to the bay and correct first time just have it going into the space.. if you think you have put too much turn on it.. stop... shunt forward using as use as much space as possible in front of you and then you can back it in with a proper view of everything.
    My problem when I first started was trying it get it spot on first time and that approach is just unrealistic, frustrating and ultimately you will get the feeling you just can't do it... my other problem was when I was backing it in and I could see the trailer was going too far to the right and not going into the bay and so I used to try and reset the manouvre and start again when the trick is to just stop and push the unit and trailer as far forward as you can in a straight line and then back it in. With that approach you have created enough space in the tight yard to get the whole truck to go backwards in a straight line.

    I agree with Dankku. You would make an excellent instructor.
    I passed my Class 1/C+E when I was 21 in 1993, learned the hard way about reversing, and had I still been driving for a living would've approached each situation in the same way as you: get as straight as you can, use all the space available, take your time, get out and check if you're not sure ( I still did it after 25 yrs), f**k the impatient experts/consumers who can't wait 30 seconds for you to reverse on to the bay at their favourite discount store, watch the wheels (aka direction indicators), and don't be embarrassed if you make a hash of it. And, above all else, stay calm!
    Have you considered becoming an instructor?

      Main thing is not hitting anything or anyone that takes much longer to deal with than being cautious and getting out the cab.

    Spot on mate about being aware of rear end swing on UK and Euro trailers due to how far they set in the axles. Doesn't really exist on Aussie trailers as the axles are generally positioned right at the back.

    Wish you had this video up in January last year.. on your lesson they only teach how to reverse around a corner here in Ireland 🇮🇪..I passed in April 21..then I had to learn as I go..I spent more time looking at the lines on bays and forget to open the doors ..I can honestly say now after 1 year driving that i feel comfortable..the trouble i found was i be doing different jobs each day tippers tankers to very tight farms..and trying to work out what the buttons do...I found out on a farm that you can't steer with diff lock on nearly put it in a ditch..Great video for all the new lads just starting out.

    I've just passed my class one in the UK this week and was looking for some more tips on reversing as in my test you don't get much practice!
    I took my test with a Bar and trailer so not that different to yours.
    I have found your videos very helpful and easy to understand and would like to say thank you for your help.
    Looking to start my driving journey again after a 3 year break from driving class two ridged and fed up with multi drop work (Pallet deliveries) to maybe doing container work as I've seen in your other video.
    A bit nervous of leaving the warehouse job I've had through the last 3 years and
    will be in touch with my old agency and see if I can land some of this type of work.
    Thanks again for your help.
    and keep the videos coming.

    This maybe useful for someone, you mentioned the swing of the trailer in your video and how close you can get to other parked trucks. The swing is greatest at the position the pin was when you began to turn so if nothing is in the space were the pin wad when you start to turn even on full lock pushing trailer backwards whilst unit goes forward you will not hit anything behind you.

    Have driven artics now for 45 years, worked as a yard shunter from the age of 13 would you believe? Reversing a 40 foot trailer is a doddle compared to reversing a small camping trailer behind a car onto a camping pitch first go 😢. Fact is, the longer the trailer, the easier it is. I kid you not. Are the lorry trailers like that of a flatbed trailers with a dolly on the front? I'm not sure of the correct term but with a standard trailer if I wanted to reverse to the left I would steer to the right, but with a dolly trailer I sort of have to reverse to the left, then compensate quite quickly and turn to the right before having to correct my movement to prevent jackknifing.

    Also a little tip for anyone who is about to take the 3a test 👍🏻 do this one thing !! TALK OUT LOUD TO YOUR SELF !! say the words and don't be embarrassed ok it Will help you over ride what your eyes are seeing & your arm movements are doing ok. ( I e. Ok I want a full right a full right gives me a left trailer full right left trailer ! Ok I can see my trailer Mark ( stick tape guide on the headboard used for training) now I want a full left full left gives me a right trailer right trailer! Ok ride the yellow line ride the line right turns ect ) honestly it works because your eyes can't make sense of a right hand down and the trailer goes left !? So you need to over ride your sight and sense! Talking out loud really works 👍🏻

    Hi Raul, great video can you make more like this ? I am positioning correctly but I think I'm putting to much lock on or not catching trailer in time and always seem to have to have a shunt or 2

      I wouldn’t worry too much about that. You’re better of getting it on the bay with a couple of shunts and not hitting anything, than trying to do it quickly and having a bump. I’ve been at it 20 years and I use a shunt or two most of the time. I don’t see it as a problem. 😀

      I think the most reason drivers have to take a shunt or two more than you really need to is because alot of us dont think about losing the angle at the same time as getting straight on to the bay..Like Raul has excellently said,practice practice practice..good look guys 👍👍👍👍🤠

      No problem if you need more shunts. As you see on the scania video i do make 1 shunt so no worries

    Nice. I've been driving them for 8 months now and I'm still wary of how close I'm getting to the lorry parked on the other side that you cant see. Just gotta watch the angle it's coming in and trust that it pulls that corner away as it straightenz

    Have you tried reversing a truck with two articulation points? or do you only drive truck and trailer?

    • @Raul689

      Never drove wagon and drag. Only Articulated

    I passed my car to artic x2 weeks ago, brilliant explanation on how to approach the bays. How would you set up and perform for a 90 degree reverse. On my very first job last week my 3rd delivery was a small factory in Bolton. I didn't even attempt the 90 degree reverse. 😔😔

    I’m a new truck driver but I’m having difficulties reversing in narrow areas where by there is no margin for mistakes.
    I keep stuffing up my reverses in narrow spots. Do you have any advice on how to manuver or reverse in tight areas?

      take it easy and do as many shunts forward as you need them

    Hi Raoul, why do semi-trailer trucks in England have three axles?

    • @247ADIE
      @247ADIE 2 года назад +3

      to run at 44ton in uk you need 6 axles, 3 on trailer, 3 on unit. it's a payload thing

    • @Raul689
      @Raul689  2 года назад

      To spread out the weight more evenly. Unlike europe, here in the UK the mgw is 44t

    • @giorgiomior
      @giorgiomior 2 года назад

      Hi Raul, there are advantages such as greater stability but also disadvantages such as the loss of payload due to the higher tare weight of the tractor as well as the higher initial cost of the vehicle and also the capacity of the fuel tanks which in Europe can reach up to: 1200 / 1300 liters which offers great autonomy.@@Raul689
