    Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is NOT possible to hold a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, apply for a Marriott Bonvoy Bold, and then upgrade the bold to a second Boundless. i.e. current cardholders of the Boundless cannot apply to the Bold (making sure I interpret the offer details correctly). I'm looking to get as many Marriott certificates as possible.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  5 лет назад +2

      Yep (terms below). The workaround (based off the terms) would be to upgrade the Boundless to a Ritz. You still run into a minor wall with #2 (the 24 month rule part) -- depends on when you got the Boundless bonus.
      Terms via Chase Bold as of 11/17/2019: The product is not available to either:
      1) current cardmembers of the Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier), Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ credit card, or
      2)previous cardmembers of the Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier), Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), or Marriott Bonvoy Bold™ credit card, who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

    Does it make sense to have a CSR, CFU, and a Hilton Surpass/Ascend card (vs the Hilton Honors card) for a relatively frugal person? I'm trying to maximize my categories while having less than 3 cards. I'm torn between that and the CSR, CFU, and Amex Everyday Preferred. Gas and Supermarkets are a pretty big expense for me. I spend 250 bucks a month on groceries and 150 a month on gas, 200 a month on dining, and 100 on travel...

For a longer term cash back setup, plat 100/125k, Schwab plat 60k, and csp 80k. Just my 2c. I'm also "frugal", but this yr will be paying ~1300 in afs, something I never thought id say...

    Somewhat off topic but if instead of having two Marriott Brilliant cards, I would like a Ritz Carlton card (via a potentially viable product change a year from now), is it worth forgoing the bonus on the Chase Boundless card? I already have all three Marriott Amex cards so for sure would not qualify for the welcome bonus from Chase but based on the keeper card idea, the card still seems worth it to get even without the bonus. But I might be missing something...

    • @dandawson8128
      @dandawson8128 5 лет назад +1

      Big Cee - anyone can chime in, but IMO the answer is a big YES. if you upgrade your no AF first, then you won't get bonus for upgrading (which you didn't expect), and you won't get bonus for new signup since you'd already have a Surpass card. Follow? The same would be the case for your Aspire situation. I've debated getting an Aspire card, haven't pulled trigger yet. A word of caution, the airline incidentals are just that and not good for airfare (vs CSR), and you must pick the 1 airline in advance. If you live in a city like Sebby that is a hub for an airline, it's a no brainer. Many of us don't have a hub, so I'm not as committed to a single airline. Food for thought. I'd need look closer at the perks for Aspire to justify it.

But I got the dreaded Amex pop-up, so I cancelled my application! I don’t know why this happened because the Amex BCP is the only Amex card that I have ever had and I haven’t done anything that should be considered “gaming the system.” The other weird thing is when I look at Amex cards on their website with the browser that I use to sign into my account, the Amex BCE doesn’t even appear (but it, of course, does on another browser). What do you think about the recent amex shutdown potentially due to having multiple of the same cards?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  5 лет назад

      Shutdowns were for self-referral more than anything else. I got message from someone complaining about shutdown who had 4 Plum cards -- all for self-referral reasons.
      If Amex was trying to purge people, having multiple of the same cards for legitimate purposes (i.e., actually using it and paying the annual fee long-term) is likely FAR down on their list.

    Is there to find out (as definitively as possible) if they allow a second card? I openly told the Chase rep I had a United card and could I get it again, she said sure....We went the WHOLE process only to get denied because she said I already had it. No duh, "I told you that"! I'm guessing it's a Chase fun more than it is United, so don't know if I should try it for one if the hotel cards from Chase??????? The Delta Platinum card would be my next thought (for companion pass obviously). Even though it's going up to $250, it's still worth it. Maybe I'll get Gold then upgrade to Platinum. Welcome anyone's thoughts.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  5 лет назад

      For applications = terms and conditions / looking for data points.
      For product changes = I can't think of any instances where you can't (outside of a rep that doesn't want to help).
      For the latter, you can generally HUCA (hang up and call again).
      I wouldn't rely on what reps tell you that can or can't be done; they're usually misinformed. Data points are usually your best bet (Reddit, FlyerTalk, forums, etc.)

      Amex DL Gold then upgrade has a non-zero chance of yielding an upgrading bonus, so that's more optimal in my book.

    Hey sebby, this comment doesn’t have to do with this video but I’m hoping to get your attention. I fear there could be a new Amex Rule. I recently applied to the Amex Gold Card and was denied. I called to get reconsideration but was told my application was completely locked and it could not be done. This was the first Amex card I’ve every applied to. I’ve never closed an account. Last credit was 6+ months ago. Credit score of 750+. Always on time payments since I’ve started my credit journey 3+ years ago. I checked every single Amex rule and I was good with all of them. But I was still turned down. The lady I was speaking to said she’s never seen this before. She also stated there were “new policies” but she couldn’t go into detail about them. I really hope to speck to you about this because I’m honestly at a complete lost to why this happened and I don’t want it to happen to others. Thank you for your time.

    • @Joe-lc7ce
      @Joe-lc7ce 4 года назад

      Call Amex again and ask another rep. I worked in a call center before, many times when you call there is a 50/50 chance that you'll get an incompetent rep. If the next one you get doesn't know, ask if there is a specialty department you can be transferred to to speak to someone that may be able to give you guidance.
