    As someone who worked at a family restaurant that NO LONGER USES doordash, it was awful. We ended up closing door dash orders super early because they kept showing up after we closed our kitchen despite that. I, as the person who managed the 35-item order and stacked it perfectly into four large bags and directly handed it to the driver, got 0 tips from all of my effort and they charged the restaurant a huge commission. And don’t even start me on the drivers who’d take the wrong person’s order if I didn’t directly hand it to them or take only one of the bags and then I’d be the one with the angry phone call. The doordash bell sound still haunts me to this day and I will never work for a restaurant that uses doordash again. It sucked.

      I'm in no real position to give business advice, but unless you're getting someone to go over each of your doordash orders full time, at that point it might be a better investment to hire 2 fulltime drivers. These companies will get away with as much as they can, as they know fighting them is time consuming and expensive, it's part of their business model once you reach a level of power like that. Additionally as you making that transition from delivery apps to drivers, to try to compensate for the loss in customers you can up your social media presence and have a flyer come with every food app delivery advertising to order from the store directly. Good luck!

They admitted they got door dash or postmates like twice a week. They got doordash while I was there from a wing place less than 3miles away & they both got cars!! I couldn't believe it. It was a huge talking point in that they could afford to save up if they gave up these delivery apps. like Drew said they already upcharge before you get to delivery fees, service fees & tipping the drivers. Even back in 2020 I hated these apps and I had to be drunk af & really wanting chips & salsa before I would use them lol. I work at a bagel shop that does delivery with DoorDash. There are many reasons why I hate having to make food for DD. First: people seem to order the most ridiculous things which makes them time-consuming to make, which is infuriating most of the time because now that’s one less person making food for the people in line. Second: DD doesn’t know when we’re out of certain items, making it frustrating when someone orders something that we’re out of. Third: the drivers get really impatient when the food isn’t done by the time they arrive to pick it up. Like sorry man, there’s a big ass line of people wanting to order, we simply just didn’t have the time/personnel to put your order together. It also doesn’t help that the drivers usually arrive mere minutes after we receive the info for the order.

      as someone who's now been on both sides, I can now see why the driver is upset when it's not done on time. Most of us are paid per order, so if we're expecting a $5 dollar order to take 10-15 mins total, but then arrive and its not even started, that might be stretched out to 20-30 mins, and now instead of $20, you're making about $5 in an hour. Obviously that's no excuse to use any slurs(definitely crossing the line), but if a driver seems annoyed, that's why. there definitely should be some understanding on both sides, but you could be really screwing someone over if you're prioritizing orders made after the one the driver is coming to pick up. I've started to just leave and assign it to someone else though now if the order is 5+ mins late.;

    Hi, Uber eats driver here! Definitely tip in cash if you can, it makes our day since it’s tax free and we know that Uber won’t get to secretly keep any of that money! Also, if your food arrives to your door later than you expected, it’s likely because the restaurant was very busy and took a long time to prepare it. We don’t get paid for the extra time waiting at the restaurant, so please be patient and don’t take out your anger on your courier 😊

    i used to be a hostess at this fairly popular restaurant and the number of calls i would have to deal with pertaining to issues with orders from doordash/uber customers. at first- i'd spend time explaining what was wrong but then my manager told me it's literally not our job to do that. drivers would call sometimes asking if it was ready, super frustrating. but the WORST is that despite having a sign that Literally reads "please see hostess for seating AND UBER/DOORDASH ORDERS- drivers would come in, grab a bag- we had them labeled a certain way so they typically couldn't tell unless they were experienced and came often (but the regulars always talked to us and were super friendly- they know better)- and leave. then we would get an angry call about how their order was wrong without us even knowing it was taken. also- the food industry already underpays its staff...and relies on tips which in the wintertime is shite! so disgusting how these apps r literally taking advantage of restaurants. i understand not all customers are physically/mentally able to get their food themselves, but seriously- if you can, get your own damn food, please, and tip your servers well, even if you caught them on a bad day

    Last year I ordered a papa john’s pizza on postmates while on my college campus. The person who picked up my order was on a bicycle, and when I checked the app to see how close she was I noticed to icon was stuck at an intersection. Some time later I got a text from her saying she got into an accident and broke her arm and that her brother was going to finish the order. I tried telling her to not worry about the pizza because HOLY SHIT get to the hospital!!!! Regardless she gave the pizza to her brother who would finish the trip by car.
    I walked around campus trying to figure out where he was, and the app wasn’t updating a location, it was still on that intersection. I’m pretty sure she didn’t hand over her phone to him, just the pizza. I saw a lot of cars driving around and I had no idea which one was him. I got a message saying the order was cancelled so I gave up.
    When I requested a refund the reason I gave was “driver broke her arm” and it got back to me pretty quickly. I really wish I had a way to reach out to her and give her a really big tip or something because god damn. She did not have to try and finish that order. It was just a fucking pizza.

    FYI, lots of places now offer ordering on their own site, but then still outsource the delivery to doordash. Like Wendy's. So when 2 times in a row Wendy's didn't deliver half my order, I found out from the driver that they can't even see the items in the order when you place it through Wendy's. So they can't confirm the items. I then tried to get a refund through Wendy's and....well they just ignored me on all customer service platforms and it was impossible to get a response. So maybe I should have just went to doordash. Except doordash didn't have the $5 biggy bag listed or the customization that the Wendy's app had. The more they try to "advance" the worse things become.

    As a business owner Postmates is the worst. Postmates has added our business to their app and will not delete it since their whole thing is delivery for anything and everything. Well that's cool and all but our business information and menu is incorrect and if we want to have control over the information we have to partner with them and that includes us paying money we don't want to pay. We would rather just not be on their app and avoid all the problems since we have started getting calls complaining to us about orders that they placed on postmates that we don't even have on our system. Overall dealing with them has been a headache for the last couple of years.

    Also I did have to start reassessing this in general. When you talk about treating yourself, yeah, that's good. But only if it's actually a treat. Only one minute after we had put all of the pizzas in the oven we get a phone call, it’s the person who placed the order and they said they did it on accident and they want to cancel the order. As a Doordash driver, I can confirm that the service fees barely go to us. I don’t think I’ve ever been paid directly by Doordash more than $5, it’s usually around 2-3, so what makes it break an order is tips.. So if you don’t tip, good luck getting someone to go pick up your food.

      How much do you think people should tip on average for doordash drivers? Usually a proper tip is 15%-20% of the total cost, but I'm assuming the numbers might be different since I'm not tipping wait staff, I'm tipping a driver. My default tip is around $3.00 (more if the restaurant is farther away or if it's rush hour) but from reading these comments I'm wondering if my default tip is too low. What amount do you wish people would tip at the very least?

      Fun tax law fact! If you own a business and you lose money one year, not only do you not have to pay income taxes for that year, but the amount you lost is also subtracted from next year's taxes. So if you "lose" a million dollars one year, a million dollars is subtracted from next year's income tax report.
      It's literally how Donald Trump (and other major companies) don't pay taxes. They just use a bunch of tax loopholes that are only lucrative to the top 1% and would otherwise doom normal people to a life of poverty and debt.
      And it's the reason the middle class pays the most taxes out of any other income group.

    I know not everyone's in a position to do this, but I've taken the option of refusing to use any of these apps. In Australia the issue we've also had is a lot of delivery people are on bicycles, many of them are immigrants/on temporary working visas, and several of them have been killed. And then the company refuses to pay any compensation because they're technically "independent contractors" and not direct employees. I'd rather not feel like somebody literally risked their life to deliver me food.

    • @StreakyBaconMan
      @StreakyBaconMan Год назад +2

      I was all with you up until the last sentence. There is literally no way to get food delivered where the delivery person isn't putting their life at risk - all forms of travel are somewhat risky. Car accidents do happen, and even people on foot aren't immune from a traffic accident. One of my old jobs was to ride a bicycle around the CBD with a huge billboard towed behind it, and I had to ride on the roads because there are no bike paths in the CBD - I would have been pretty pissed off if advertisers started telling my boss "well we don't want to use you anymore because what if one of your riders is in an accident and dies?" costing me that job despite the fact my boss was more than reasonable - I was an employee not a contractor, I earned slightly above minimum wage at 18yrs old so I was happy with that, and all the equipment I used was paid for and maintained by my employer rather than myself. That was a pretty good deal for me back then and I am glad I had that job.
      The main problem I see with food delivery apps and rideshare apps is they do not offer their "contractors" that seem an awful lot like employees adequate compensation for the risks they are expected to take when performing their job. If Uber were to classify their drivers as employees, pay for the cars and maintenance and pay the employees more than minimum wage then I'd be fine with it.

Sometimes the app won't let us mark something out of stock nor call the customer, so if the dasher happens to take a bit we have to wait until they arrive to inform them.
      And honestly, I hate saying this because I believe in tipping delivery people, but except for about 2 people, every single dasher we've got has been incredibly rude and it sucks slaving over food and drinks only for someone who yelled at us to get the tip and doordash's shitty system takes a high commission. We’ve had so many complains from customers saying that the food took way too long/is soggy but we just prepared it when we were supposed to. Sometimes the drivers were 20-45 minutes late. And the thing is, I know that *most* of the time it wasn’t even their fault. DD just sent them the notification to pick up the food so long after the app told the customer that their driver had been chosen. Drivers would say they got to the restaurant immediately after they got the notification from DD… which was 30 minutes after we did, and their customer service with partner restaurants was so atrocious it gave me a headache each time I had to deal with it. The kicker was that Postmates didn't even have our actual menu...they let customers "suggest" and order items they thought we might have, forcing us servers to get into actual arguments with stressed-out, pissed-off drivers who would show up looking for items we never, ever had on our menu. We called Postmates more than once demanding they remove us from their restaurant list, and they always claimed they couldn't (wtf??). If you want to be seen (as in if someone search a general food category, your restaurant will be listed) it goes up to 30 to 40%. Also, as mentioned in the video, people do not call the delivery service for anything! Our food is usually ready in 10 minutes, packed securely in a bag. But we get blamed for late food, cold food, messy food, wrong food and so on. They always demand refund which we can't give cuz we don't even have their info! But at the same time, we understand their frustration cuz you can't never ever get to the customer service. (Or at least that's what people say. )

    I work in food service and you'd be surprised at how easy it is for people to steal orders, or grab the wrong order, or steal *from* orders. We used to have a big shelf where the orders sat, until we noticed people would just walk in and grab them, pretending to be a driver. We took down the shelf and started keeping food behind the counter, and suddenly we started seeing people come in, go to the restroom, and then leave, more so than usual. Our theory is that thieves will go into a restaurant, see that there's no food to steal, and then pretend like they just popped by to use our toilet instead of conspicuously turning around and leaving.
    We thought that was the end of it, but then we saw an increase in drivers coming in to ask for orders that had already been picked up. Turns out that drivers would come in, ask for an order, and then leave without telling the app they grabbed it. I don't know whether or not they can cancel an order or if the app just reassigns it after a certain amount of time or what, but regardless we figured out drivers were using that method to steal food. Now, when someone comes to pick an order up, I have to go through the awkward process of making them confirm they grabbed the order before I'll hand it to them. Even so, corporate inexplicably no longer allows us to seal bags with a sticker, so drivers can still just steal items from the bag and then blame us when the customer complains that items are missing.
    All of this could be avoided if we just had our own delivery drivers we could hold accountable, but instead we have to contend with random schmucks who we'll likely never see again. It's unbelievably frustrating.

    Yeah just a minute in and that crazy up charge that they have for the delivery fee is one reason I never order from those apps. Another reason is that almost every single time me or anybody in my family has ordered from them they somehow show up with a portion of the food missing every damn time. They can't even do their job right. So do they eat the food or just not double-check to make sure they actually grabbed the two bags of food as opposed to just one. But if they're not eating some of my food why is it that my dr. Pepper I ordered is only two-thirds of the way full by the time it gets to me?
    That's PRETTY SILLY and GOOFY. Maybe even a little MYSTERIOUS. So why should you have to pay an automatic delivery fee to somebody who can't even deliver correctly and is probably eating some of your food?
