So we have a Hyatt card from chase and just started a chase Reserve card we travel a lot by driving and fly about 4 or 5 times a year thanks for the Math I really need to learn that. Again thanks for what you do for us also we spend about $6,000.00 a mouth on our credit card hoping to stay at a lot of Hyatts

    I have the Jetblue Plus card and thought you should know Barclays does not offer a downgrade path to all holders of this card. Only some cardholders are offered the downgrade option and not all. I know you did a video on downgrade paths some time ago. I was actually told to cancel and apply for the no AF Jetblue card. Really strange

    Thinking about ditching the Bonvoy Brilliant before renewal, and just sticking with the Business Platinum. I only need one premium card, and with the continuous Bonvoy cuts, I can use my BoA Cash Rewards card instead. Not into keeping cards that I don't actually use, even if I could save a bit on one hotel night a year.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад

      You can also downgrade to the $95 annual fee Amex Bonvoy (grandfathered one). YMMV if you can use the 35k certificate. Some people downgrade and time upgrades to double dip Marriott credits (pay $450 to get $600 in Marriott credits).
      It probably isn't worth the effort / stress for most people though (or risk if they decide to flag for this behavior).

    Great video Sebby! Hilton Surpass makes a lot of sense to me; I already have the Aspire and stay at Hiltons most the time! I believe 15K spend on the Surpass gets me more value than spending the same amount on my BBP! 45K Hilton points plus a free weekend night vs. 30K MR points!🤔 I currently put about $25K per year on my BBP.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад +1

      I could see the case for the BBP if you don't like hotels (many people from the sound of it) and you valued premium cabin flights.

    $50K spend for Mosaic is by far the best value. perks you didn't mention that are HUGE are that flights become refundable, unlimited free drinks on board, the EMS is for everyone on your reservation! Also, if you earn status this year you get it for 2021 which is supposedly when they will offer flights to Europe so you'll get EMS for those long international flights. I have also heard some people are getting the 15,000 bonus (YMMV). Last big benefit is that say you can put $50K on the card by March or April, you'd earn status for a year and 6 months, and with that status you're eligible for status matches (Southwest) and status challenges. All the other big spend options respectfully are much worse IMHO
    EDIT: Another benefit of Mosaic is when you have a delay and they try to tell you you're not eligible for compensation because it was officially a weather delay (even when everyone knows the crew timed out), they will actually give Mosaics compensation if they call as opposed to not having status. The free change and refundable is also huge because whenever a flight goes down in price you can effectively get the difference in price back. The free same day change is also HUGE because that means you can change your flight to any co-located airports, so any LA airports, LGA-JFK-EWR, you name it. So in practice you can buy the cheap LAX-JFK flight and then change it to ONT-LGA which if probably much more expensive

    • @AskSebby

      The ability to refund is an amazing perk and I wish more airlines did that for elite members.

    JetBlue Plus and the Hyatt card make sense for most people trying to hit status. Delta Reserve depends if your airport is a Delta hub where lesser status wont help you and it would force you to go for Gold or Platinum to have a chance at getting value. Is it worth it to shift all that spend to it for Skypesos? Its harder to justify.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад +1

      JetBlue Plus is interesting via Plastiq for mortgage route, especially with frequent 1%/1.5% promos.
      The case for the Delta to me would be pushing for Platinum or Diamond given the choice benefits. 1 for the Platinum and 4 for the Diamond.
      Very, very niche use cases though :)

    • @wannabedal-adx458
      @wannabedal-adx458 3 года назад +1

      The Hyatt card is my goto spend non-category spend card. I would have considered the JetBlue Plus (esp with the 100K mile offer in Nov 2020) and the race to mosaic status, but they burned me. They had a huge customer service failure by double charging me for one of my bags when i checked in online before driving to the airport. And they wouldn't refund me the fee (they also charge a higher fee for checking your bag in at the airport then online). Also their operational flow is not up to par. Most of their flights are delayed. Delta has the best running operation when it comes to ontime dep/arr and not cancelling.

I have the Hyatt card, but thought it came with a free night after anniversary. Didn't realize the $15k spend requirement. I can hit that. Hilton Ascend/Surpass card also has a $15k requirement (which I hit with gas & groceries, in addition to Hilton stays). I'll call Hyatt to clarify benefits on mug card, thanks again! 👍

    I’m so glad you mentioned going after status if it doesn’t benefit you, I’m starting to realize that. I’m more likely to use Airbnb’s for international travel and don’t need high end hotels. I mostly get more value outside of where I’m staying and multiple trips a year so for me my value is points towards cheaper flights and credits.

  • @ricgarciaramirez

    I think you missed on three important benefits that should be considered for the jetBlue Plus Card that add to the total opportunity equation.
    1.) you get 15000 additional pts after you reach $50,000 spend and earn Mosaic.
    2.) you get 10% refunded on all the pts you do use.
    3.) the most important. With Mosaic you essentially always pay for the cheapest available flight for the day you are flying because of the ability change flight within 24hrs of departure. This one really adds up for me in savings.
    In all, when you add up benefit 1 and 2 the math should really be:
    65,000pts x 1.1 = 71,500 x $0.015 = $1,072.50
    (Sorry for the math, I’m a nerd, lol)

    re hyatt. might be better to put non cat spend on cfu and transfer. if you're earning status thru spend, you're likely not spending enough nights for the elite benefits to be worth more than an extra .5 hyatt points on huge spend numbers. it might be better to just get the extra .5 ppd and outright pay for the benefits by booking an club level room for lounge access and breakfast or something. the only catch is that it might not be an option to upgrade or book those rooms on points. breakfast is easy to buy and is lounge access in a hotel really worth all that hassle? the 2 elite nights/$5k is mostly only worth it if you're already putting in a good amount of nights and only a few away from hitting globalist or something

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад

      Agreed for the most part. I mostly ran the numbers as a thought experiment (or for people who want to say bonvoy to Marriott but don't want to start at zero).
      Same with Delta (discussed towards the end of the video) -- you "technically" can get to Diamond through spend only but it's hard to justify.

      It's definitely an option. I wanted to keep the video a reasonable length. There's also a case for the Chase United cards for PQPs.
      The Delta deep dive felt pretty... intense for non-frequent travelers already though. Adding UA and AA sounds like a mistake (I could be wrong though!).

    Not well advertised but spend 40k on Chase IHG premier gives you Diamond Elite. Which Diamond Elite gives weird perks; not sure if worth. Found this on accident

    Hilton status would be great if the points weren’t worthless. Marriott status not super helpful but I can accumulate more useful points faster

      Hilton is very "go big or go home" in my experience. I feel like the Aspire earns pretty quickly compared to Marriott though.
      I'm a pretty big fan of JW and StR :)

    What's about Lufthansa miles & more card? Is it worth it?

      I don't see any benefits that would align with "high spend" outside of the intro bonus.

    Best card for high spend who does not travel by plane or stay in many hotels? Already utilize 5% categories on Chase, debating Discover IT for more categories or Bank of America Cash rewards to select my own categories. Would love an unlimited 3% card all categories with no restrictions.

      I think the best you can do is 2.625% all categories (3.5% dining and travel) on the BofA Premium Rewards. Requires Platinum Honors status with BofA.

      BofA System works but has spending caps (depending on how high your spend is): www.asksebby.com/blog/bank-of-america-duo-credit-cards-for-high-net-worth-individuals

    I have a 800 Credit Score and I just cancelled a credit card with a $59 annual fee. How much does that affect my score?

    • @jacksons1010
      @jacksons1010 4 года назад

      Depends on what the credit limit was and the age of the account, because credit utilization and average age of accounts matter. But it just won’t matter so long as your score remains above 750, which I’d bet it will. Once you’re above 750...congrats, time to stop obsessing about your FICO because higher scores than that just don’t matter.

    Does the status reset every year?

    • @roburb73
      @roburb73 4 года назад

      Jose Jimenez , Yes. With delta they have rollover MQMs. That means whatever amount over Silver, Gold, etc, you are, it rolls over. Ex: If you're at 48K MQMs, 23K will rollover to the next year and you're that much closer to staining status again. If you fall to make status for the next year, your current status disappears on 31 Jan.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад

      Status for most airlines/hotels is for the year that you earned it (i.e., 2020) and the year afterwards (i.e., 2021).
      Many also have weird cut-offs (so instead of Dec 2021, it would be 1 month after... Jan 2022).
