      Exactly a very strong year for wta, another group was sharapova, radwanska, kvitova and errani though kvitova withdrew after her first match against radwanska and stosur replaced her. Entering to this tournament top 3 in rankings were 1. Azarenka 2. Sharapova 3. Serena.

    I like how we didn't even wait to see if Vondrousova joins this group, when Sakkari fails it needs to be highlighted!

    Pegula lost to Sakkari , Jabeur and Ssbalenka in 2022 wta finals
    Pegula won agnst Sakkari, Sabalenka in 2023.
    So much improvement.

      Pegula is 4-0 in wins and 8-0 in sets this year.

    Honestly, Kvitova's record doesn't bother me. The woman had her playing hand shredded in a knife attack and then still qualified for the WTA finals twice in the following 3 years. She’s got nothing to prove.

      it bothers her no doubt, no way someone reaches the heights of winning slams and is ok with just being present at the WTA finals. Champions don't think like that they are always after titles

    • @falks941
      @falks941 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@deusexmachina9776 I disagree. I mean, what you say is obvious - back in 2018/19, she would have been disappointed with the losses at the time, and would have wanted to win those titles. But this was four years ago. When she retires, she won't look back on her career and be disappointed by her performance in the 2018 and 2019 WTA finals.
      Instead, she'll remember 2018 and 2019 as years when she overcame huge adversity and still played well enough to be one of the best eight players in the world. They were also years that she played well enough to contest another GS final and be one match away from the world #1 ranking. When she lost the AO final to Osaka, the first thing she said in her speech was that she couldn't believe she'd made another GS final after everything that happened in 2016. That says it all.

    In 2015 sharapova and muguruza were 3-0 in the group stage, only to lose their respective semifinals and the players who beat them, kvitova and radwanska were 1-2 in the group stage matches.

    You can really see how much better the venues were in Istanbul and Singapore. Even Shenzhen for that one year. Guadalajara and Fort Worth weren't ideal, but this year in Cancun feels like a sad mistake :/

    Aga was crying in a press conference after losing to Kvitova (her 1st match that year). She knew she had to beat Petra in order to have a chance to go to the SF, having Kerber and Serena the other two.

    Kerber was actually playing her one of the best tennis in 2012, in what was her breakout year and she qualified for the wta finals for the very first time, she was playing pretty good during the finals, it's just that others were too much for her, all power players, Azarenka having season of her life, serena coming back to her prime and of course li na too at her best can smash away other players with her backhand.
