    I’m very interested in the new Rushdie. And congrats on the retirement and the new part time job! I would love to work in the library after retirement.

      Oooh I can’t wait to try this 3rd Hayes. 🥰. I’m not as altruistic as all that though! It’s a job at the library. 😅🤣. Iam volunteering my time though in another way…helping to write grants for some cat rescues.

      Thanks, Katie. 🥰. A good reminder for me to actually sit in it and read! Yes, Hayes! Having read all3 I would recommend My Face For the World to See. It was the most enjoyable…this 3rd one of his, The End of Me is my least fave, it who knows! It’s still Hayes.

    I used to work in the library while I was attending university. I used put back books and periodicals. Thanks for the vids, it's inspiring me to read a bit everyday.

    Bummer that the Anita Brookner didn't work for you, but it's cool that you've read a lot of her work now. I've decided I want to get through Maggie O'Farrell's novels because it's silly to enjoy an author so much and not explore more of their work. Your backyard is beautiful, and I'm glad you're enjoying your time as a circulation desk employee at the library. I hadn't heard of paging, how cool. Wish I could join you ♥

    it is not required to read the rougoun-macquart in order, so if you are not feeling "the fortune" I highly recommend "germinal" ! I have also heard great things about "thérèse raquin", "nana", "la curée" ("the kill" in english, I think?), and "au bonheur des dames" ("the ladies' delight/paradise"). Glad to hear that you love your library job so much !! I am unfortunately still far from retirement age but I think that I would enjoy it very much too :)

    Yeah I’ve been collecting Anita Brookner but not all her books are “grabbers”. I’m doing the same with Julian Barnes and there’s been one I read recently that I had to push my way through. 😂 All the best with the library job. I tried to find a job there too (libraries in our local area) but no luck as they prefer librarianship graduates. I’m under qualified with my MBA ! Oh well😂😂

    • @thelefthandedreader6632
      @thelefthandedreader6632  4 месяца назад

      Ah I do want to get to another Julian Barnes. I read A Sense of An Ending. What do you recommend as some others that you liked? Well, Helen, it’s the library loss! That’s a real shame because I know you’d love it. Here, it’s common for circulation and paging staff to be anyone that seems qualified. And the Reference librarians to have a Masters of Library Science.

      @@thelefthandedreader6632 I loved Metroland which was his first book. Yeah it was a bit frustrating but I understood they needed younger graduates with library degrees. That’s ok. I started the RUclips channel and reviewing books to see if this was any value to them but they needed formal accreditation. Anyway I’m not fussed at all. I have books in my life and I chat to people all around the world about them. I’m like a librarian but without the physical building. 🤣

    The model on the cover of the Man Who Saw Everything is the same one on A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. Incredible story.
    How did your library get Knife so soon? I am attempting to read the Satanic Verses once again. It's not easy.
