Renee is back !!! Our 'Happy Face' - you look so happy fresh from the Trip 🤗
Ah, Thanks so much!
Love how enthusiastic you are about your hauls. I'm reading Arrowsmith at the moment but having trouble getting into it.
It’s frustrating when that happens. That’s when I switch it up and move to something else. Even if it’s just temporary!
I love love D. H. Lawrence , "Lady Chatterley's Lover" was good, but "Sons and Lovers" was even better. I'm trying to read "The Rainbow" at some point this year, which is in the same world/shares characters with "Women in Love!"
Oh that’s right. I forgot about that famous book! It’s going to be fun to try the Lawrence’s I have. Yay!!
I loved the mix of talking about your trip alongside the books, that was great.
I've read The Rainbow, which wasn't my favourite of the Lawrences I've read so far, but as I've not read the second one, I don't know if it's important to go in order.
Sorry but I didn't like the wren the wren! I remember quite enjoying our man in Havana, from memory.
I'm a knitter too!! I will head over to your knitting channel...
Oh, you’re a knitter too? Oh how nice! I believe you’re in the UK, right? Do you have some favorite yarns? I can see how The Wren, The Wren can be a marmite type of book.
@@thelefthandedreader6632yes I'm in the UK. I'm vegan so I don't knit with wool, I use either bamboo, cotton, or acrylic. Current project is a pretty cowl, totally the wrong time of year, but hopefully ready for when autumn comes again!
amazing to see this haul at such low costs !!! 😭😭😭 and so many goodies!
i think it was Sophie who read Optic Nerve! also on my radar!
and thank you for these thoughts on Parade! much to think about for this one… 💭
I mean, crazy bargains!! Ah, it was Sophie. Oooh, good to know!
optic nerve is an interesting read! we did it last april in my book club. very much enjoyed finding the parallels in the narrative with the artworks in each story. weirdly, it felt like a novel with experimental form rather than a short story collection. the good soldier is very much a modernist read, feels super impressionistic and plays with unreliable narrator and bias/perspectives. so so many good books mentioned!!!! x
Oh, thanks for the feedback about your experience with Optic Nerve. So interesting!
I keep forgetting that Cusk has another book out. Since I'm not acquiring any new books this year, I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
It looks as though you've found some great second-hand books, and I hope that you find some new favourites from them. DH Lawrence is an author I meant to read at high school, but is now an author who is on the list to get to in future.
I’m glad I stumbled across the Lawrence books since I had forgotten I wanted to try him. As is often the case, as I dip into the book of letters, I’m getting more intrigued about his writing!
Great finds! Especially the vintage Penguin of D.H Lawrence's Selected Letters! 🤩😍 I think the colour you were looking for is 'eau de Nil'. I read The Lifted Veil a couple of years ago and was struck by the uncanny likeness between the character on the cover and Barbra Streisand 🤭 Happy reading!
I know that cover! I’ve since dipped into the book of letters and it’s fascinating!
Nice update. I think youll like Out Man in Havana.
James, yay! I’m so happy I discovered Graham Greene’s writing a couple of years ago. 🥰🥰
I wrote my final paper in undergrad on To The Lighthouse so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts ❤
Oh, that’s so cool. I know and love the feeling of being that close to a text!
such good prices for your book hauls 😱 loved hearing about your trip in this!!
Right? Oh, I love especially Rodgers Book Barn. They’re so generous. 🥰
Good morning. I discovered a book that I thought you might enjoy. It is A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott. It is very good. It was published after her death because it was considered too sensational to published in the author's lifetime.
Thanks so much for the recommendation! You know I’m going to explore that one!
A fellow climber! Yay!
Erin, yes! Yay!! Are you in the US? What are some of your favorite climbing places?
@@thelefthandedreader6632 yes. I’m in Northern California. I mostly climb at a gym, but have had to take some time off recently. I’ve only done 2 outdoor climbs. There’s an old quarry nearby in Auburn (old gold mining town) and I took a trip to Bishop about 3 weeks after I started climbing in January of last year. There was snow on the ground and I could barely feel my fingers, but it was awesome.
My only comment is where is this library that you can get sale books for a dollar!
Right? Pittsburgh! 🥰🥰😂😂
