I really love the idea of having a portable 2 screen setup.
    But I can't justify its price when a 27" 1440p monitor costs around 250$.
Portable monitors generally cost too much in my opinion. I'm happy we see more and more brands enter the portable monitor market every year. I hope the competition will improve these monitors and lower their price. Think I'm going to keep waiting till that happens.

I bought a cheap(total ~100$ while discounted) 14" portable monitor a while ago with mini hdmi and 2x usb c ports for video signal and power. It's also matte and plenty bright (similar to my 2022 FLOW X13). With 60hz it's ok for work. It's not color accurate out of the box though. With a little bit of tweeking it is okayish. I love it for working on the fly. I would only consider spending three times as much if I need the color accuracy and a reliable brand name. Otherwise a cheap monitor does it as well. In comparison to working with one monitor only it's simply amazing. I can do CAD work while looking up a DIN ISO on another monitor or search for details in a document. Without the second monitor it was either a tiny window or a whole lot of alt-tab. I bought it a few weeks after the Flow X13 (upgrading from a chunky 17 inch device with no battery life). Now I can use it longer while being more productive while it being lighter and smaller all around. No regrets at all.
edit: I can even charge my Flow x13 through the monitor (not with full charging speed though) when I plug the power adapter into it instead of the flow x13 and I can charge other devices through the monitor when it's only connected to the flow. Using the flow as a writing/drawing device in tablet mode while also having the portable monitor right behind it (reminds me of the zenbook duo... only with two whole monitors and no keyboard) is amazing as well.

I have one of these which I use with my 17” Gram.
I also love it - it just works seamlessly and has a surprisingly low battery life effect on the laptop.
One thing you didn’t mention was the brightness adjustment control on the monitor which is a great idea.
As for compatibility, it works fine with my daughter’s Surface Laptop 3 14” - I’m not sure about Display Port implementation on different laptops.
I carry my Gram and this in my laptop case with a total weight around that of many 15” laptops - it’s great for work.

A friend just bought one of these based on my suggestion. I was quite disappointed, even though he likes it upon first inspection. The stand/cover is terrible. We're going to buy a fold up metal stand to keep it in place and I'll probably buy some magnetic stickers to make it feel more secure. Another point is the cover doesn't cover the entire unit, only the front on one of the short edges. It also doesn't stay in place. There is no protective sleeve or case for when your transporting the unit. It also feels like it could snap/break very easily. Because of it's large size it's proving difficult to find a good case for it. The cheap Chinese portable monitors on the market have done a better job of addressing user requirements than this LG screen. I've used a much cheaper unit with a front and back cover case that allows for different angles of tilt and protects the screen much better when it's in your bag. Also they have multiple inputs such as HDMI, Display Port, 2 USB C ports and acts asa hub as you suggest. I'm thinking that we send the LG unit back next week for a refund.

Had to return mine, it's not as compatible as LG say it is, it does not work with the Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 ARC A370M model which certainly has enough power, LG are mad not supporting HDMI, USB-C conformity is a long way off. Also saw an insane ticket on microsoft support for someone who lost USB-C support on his two Asus Pro Art displays after a windows 11 update. Several months later no bueno, so maybe Windows 11 is the issue?

I have a minor question Mr Josh about resolutions and PPI. Most tech reviewers like you say that I should put it on its maximum resolution when I open my laptop for the first time. So, I have Lenovo yoga 7 gen 7 (AMD) version. The system says the recommended resolution is 2880 x 1800, with a PPI of 242.59. I have a higher resolution of 3840 x 2400 with a PPI of 323.45. Which one should I use now? I normally set the scaling to a %, which gives me 38 excel rows meaning at the first option 175% and 225% at the second option. Sorry for the long comment. I hope you help me.

i bought this to use as 2nd monitor when i work out of the office. it works fine with my asus m16. it's light and bright, but the colour seems off. in particular the reds (pure red with rgb of 255, 0,0) is too orangey. is there a way to calibrate it? it's not bad enough to return it as i'm doing autocad and not photo editing on it. it's just a bit jarring next to my other monitors that display red as red.

Hey great review! Do you know the LGs rated power (Wattage)? I can't seem to find it out online.
Looking at alternative monitors like Uperfect, it seems like LG has overpriced this monitor for the specs it has. For 2/3rds of the price you can get one with higher brightness or colour depth, but most of these tend to require another power cable or to drop the resolution down to 1080p to avoid flickering issues. Have you experienced any issues using the one cable from your Macbook?

I purchased the LG external monitor several months ago. I use it with a Macbook Air M1 and Mac Mini Pro M2. The display automatically scales the resolution to 1280x800, and it looks very sharp. You can manually adjust the resolution to 2560x1600, but I wouldn't recommend it. The interface is too small to read at that resolution (for me anyway). You can also adjust the zoom in applications, so the 1280x800 isn't very limiting. I love the fact it only needs to be connected to a usb-c port. I am happy with this purchase and use the monitor daily. Really good value if you can find it on sale. I think I paid around $300AUD on sale.
