I just watched Tim Pierce talking about this song and here I am, a newb to the Andy Wood world and I'm blown away. Seriously blown away. There are a few times in my life that a song or artist left me stunned. Eruption in '79, watching SRV live at Aloha Stadium in '84, hearing Would by AIC while driving a pickup truck through Mulholland, Albert Lee Romany Rye, and now this. It's been a while. As many of the other comments have clearly stated, you forget you're listening to a guitar.... it's a freaking symphony. So many shredders out there, but so few with the understanding that it's not the speed, it's THIS; the music. Thank you Andy - not that you need it, but you have a new fan here. Blown away.

Don’t get me wrong I love painting my own pictures and agreed that melody is addicting but not enough to hold my attention for more then a minute or two then bored. Parts Telecaster -is what he is playing. For the attempted heavy lead breaks - He should have had a real Fender Strat, it would have darkened the tone to where it needs to be for this song. The telecaster is too bright and happy sounding.
This took me to places. That's the power of music. Specially great american guitar music: took me to a NY skyline having a good whisky as I admired the city, then it broke down to I driving fast on a LA highway running from a lost love. Then it took me back to my childhood, dreams and hopes. And then to think how far we came as humanity, and a touch of future by the end: where are we going next. Surreal tones out of these Strato and Tele. Been playin guitar from 22 years but generally don't appreciate instrumental guitarrist music, maybe Satriani sometimes. But I definetely am going for this album. A pleasure to meet you Mr. Wood, thanks for this tremendous ride.

I came across this early this morning, Damn late to the party as usual! anyhoo, I was so impressed with this that I made a point of showing it to my grandson who is studying music in school (he's 14). He sat there in silence for the whole performance just gobsmacked. He then said, "that's my next performance piece, how unusual there's no singing in it". I took him to the original (the one with the gory video), to which he said "well that's pretty intense, musically I prefer the instrumental one". He's now in the process of working it out for himself. He already plans on getting his music teacher to play the acoustic and his sister to do the keys. What an iconic performance this is, truly gut wrenching playing!
