"Overplaying and shredding" is a major part of these type of things. Its actually the entire point and purpose to over-play and get loose at some point during a guitarist exhibition thing. Everyone expects it,..its entertaining and a treat...This was no exception,..AWESOME !!
. your a great role model Andy .. in how one should behave .. in attitude .. professionally .. but most importantly .. on a human level .. all Guitarists should take note .. your a class act Man.
I was there, in fact that me standing as Andy is playing at the beginning of the vid. It was absolutely fantastic!!! I don't know how people can sit during a performance like this!!!
Great friggin guitar content! Joes tone is ridiculously awesome! Your playing was awesome as well (not surprising) sounded like you guys were having fun.
There is no need to explain the overplayed lick....you are a legend and the show demand your shred power!!! Rock on and give us that lick in a lesson soon!!! Cheers!!
Man... all you said to me is the real core meaning of what music is and why to be a musician! I know... as a pro like you music is also business, career and many other things... But when that kind of magic starts between two great guitarists like you and Joe are... just...wow!!! It's pure joy... for you... and for us listeners too! Keep rockin' Man... i smashed my nose into your name and art just some weeks ago (apologize for that!)... but... Man... you are so great! Happy Nu Year Man! (2025!)
Andy let me tell ya I am a hard sell on guitar players but man you have blown my mind. This is amazing you with the almighty Joe dang!!! You and Uncle Ben make us proud with what you are bringing to the table these days!!
At least this made me happy for a moment during these crazy times we are living. ... And Joe won the "tone contest" -- but is that really a fair competition. 😉
I can't believe I've missed this video. amazing nevertheless, JB is just one out of a handful of blues style players that got me wanting to pick up the guitar again, and as always, really dig your content.
1) Three world-class guitar players right there. Josh Smith taking a back seat to it all is world-class humility. 2) Me "jamming" with the artists at the Woodshed Guitar Experience would be like sitting at a kindergarten craft table with God. God: "Look, I just made a planet with all necessary life to keep it completely self sustaining. What did you make?" Me: "A finger painting of a goose."
Awesome video. Thanks so much for posting. Awesome shredding with Joe. Amazing, what an honor that must be. Wow. Speechless. Can’t imagine how loud that must’ve been. Whoa….🤯 thanks for breaking down the EJ style pentatonic riffs. Super cool. Great teaching. Super appreciate it.
I was lucky enough to catch the show. As soon as Joe said from Knoxville, I looked over and said its Andy Wood! Awesome performance. I did close my eyes at the end of the first solo... man what a save! Held the note and everything! Damn wedges. Lol
That was a blast. You all sounded like yourself a and no one had some distinct edge. You all sounded great but your voices are hard to disguise. 3 bags of awesome.
Joe played with very HUGE blues players at 13 yrs old. I’d be honored if he asked me to play anything (he wouldn’t… maybe sing but no playing lol)! That’s a testament to your playing!
Phenomenal playing on all counts and man, what a super cool and enjoyable story you had with Big D and pulled out his favorite thing you do! That’s special and so cool to hear about it from you. Thanks brother Andy!👏💪🙏
Very cool experience and fun background video. I saw you on the Scott Stapp tour, coolest lesson I ever took and getting to watch sound check from the stage was super cool!
Andy, just watched the vid and have not read any comments. You don't have to explain to ANYONE. If you are going to a JB or Josh show, you are going to see ripping and shredding. Almost everyone in the audience is a guitar nut. If you hadn't shredded or shown off your chops, we would have been disappointed. JB may be a class act, but must say, you're a class act as well. Only wished I could have been there.
Nice vid Andy! I've been trying to nail that EJ lick (around the 20:00 mark) for a while with limited success. It seems the secret is your picking hand, not your fretting hand. You're starting each 6 note sequence with an upstroke rather than a downstroke. Does that sound right?
For me it’s ring able to start licks Ike that with either an up or down. That way if the number of notes change to 4 or 5 it won’t be troublesome for the picking hand
It’s on my main board. I have 3 overdrives on that board and I never use them together. I have them for 3 different voices of gain. Belle for lowest smooth gain, bb for mid gain (Junktown riff) and gearbox for full lead
@@rockyfolksy8639 clean amp! Tune in to any of my live streams, or on my Patreon for full gear walk throughs! I have a video on my woodshed playlist on RUclips demoing the board
Tasty. But Joe had twice the volume you did. I get that Joe has 1000 watts on stage up full ... but surely the mix could have been better for recording. I wonder what the house sound was like. Could anyone even hear you?
I know that this is Joe’s stage and Josh is basically an employee on this current tour so why does it bother me so much seeing him in the background. He’s way too good for that. But again it’s Joe’s stage. Josh’s rhythm playing is as good as it gets so I would want him on my team too
Andy, both of you are incredible players, but honestly at some point it kind of sounded a bit like a musical battle between Eric Johnson(Bonamasa) and Steve Morse(you). Am I crazy to think this?

Too much talent all on one stage!🎉
How fortunate it would have been to be in the audience that night to see these virtuosos let it go. Thank you Andy for sharing.

At 4:08 Joe plays some crazy high to low into a harmonic with a bend. What the heck was that. His back was to us, would love to see that explained
@Eric Frederich ....sounds like he hits a harmonic at the 5th fret then bends behind the nut....?
What a pleasure that was 👍🏻 fantastic, and thanks 🙏🏻

Great job man. Actually, if you’re doing one amp/stomp box against that wall, it was a good gain choice and cut nicely. No overplaying, when in Rome….
Awesomeness! Joe Josh and Andy, wow. Congratulations on your record too.
Fascinating and what a treat to see you guys jamming together
