I used to jam with Andy sometimes back in the day in Pigeon Forge TN and he was awesome then. He's a really down to earth guy and has an incredible range of influences. He probably wouldn't even remember me but I've never forgotten him. I can assure you of that! LOL! All this talk about slide players has reminded me of one of my favorite slide players to come out of the 1990s was Chris. Whitley. His first LP was titled "Living With The Law" That CD is still in my rotation today & Chris also used different tunings on every song. Unfortunately he left us way to early.
Different kind of slide playing, but Whitley was a real genius to be sure. And man, some really crazy tunings. Just so different in the blues genre then what anyone else was doing in the 1990’s -2000’s. I think he’s going to be one of those guys name dropped by guitarists down the road when he’s rediscovered by many of them. The biography movie they made about him is finally up on RUclips.

Great video Brett. I dont think he even realizes how good he is. His videos on truefire are not for the faint of heart. It took me 30 minutes just to master 1 of his 25 bluegrass licks you should know. And I use the word master liberally. Lol. I love your channel. Unpretentious and always material that I can actually apply at a gig. If someone wants to get out of a playing rut, I recommend watching any of your videos with Corey. Thanks so much. Mark
Excellent interview this one and also the rig rundown video you guys showed the Wampler Gearbox (Awesome)and the pretty cool Suhr Woodshed compressor! Andy Wood delivers so many great quality tones with only his two pedals signature plus so many musical genius ideas and concepts that are great information for all guitarist or musicians out there!!!Worthy every word he said!!! Brett I love your channel and this king of videos that you are lately doing!!!Great work man!!!Please keep doing it!!!🔥🎸
Wow! First time hearing about this dude! I usually use the word phenomenal, when I'm absolutely blown away by them. Well, this guy is at least 2 steps beyond that! Also, if you want to check out an awesome slide player, listen to some Larkin Poe. The one sister is a great slide player!
Mind blowing , but im not throwing the guitar in for firewood. Lol We are who we are and some have more time and love for different things. We have to love what we want to learn ,believe we can do it, and that will take the road blocks out that stops us from wasting time if we truly want to learn something. You have great guest Andy wood is multi talented full of energy so much so he can't do some of the things you do and that is taking it slow to teach each note and the where and why of it slowly for all to understand. It's like he is on a different planet or all at one time. Lol . I can't do sweeps and I guess I could learn it but to me it has no heart .but at the same time it's awesome. Too advanced in something I wouldn't use. Now the slide technique is pretty cool but never going to be as good as the real deal. But again it's awesome.....

He didn’t call them boring, he’s referring to people who would call pentatonic box playing as worn out. He was showing how some phrasing changes really bring some variation to stereotypical pentatonic licks
