    I used to jam with Andy sometimes back in the day in Pigeon Forge TN and he was awesome then. He's a really down to earth guy and has an incredible range of influences. He probably wouldn't even remember me but I've never forgotten him. I can assure you of that! LOL! We both knew a really awesome jazz player named Kevin Winegar and Andy was always quick to praise him. Complimenting other players to me is one of the marks of truly great players. They're secure in their own skin and that definitely fits Andy to a tee.

    All this talk about slide players has reminded me of one of my favorite slide players to come out of the 1990s was Chris. Whitley. His first LP was titled "Living With The Law" That CD is still in my rotation today & Chris also used different tunings on every song. Unfortunately he left us way to early.

    • @droliver
      @droliver 3 года назад +1

      Different kind of slide playing, but Whitley was a real genius to be sure. And man, some really crazy tunings. Just so different in the blues genre then what anyone else was doing in the 1990’s -2000’s. I think he’s going to be one of those guys name dropped by guitarists down the road when he’s rediscovered by many of them. The biography movie they made about him is finally up on RUclips.

    Mind blowing , but im not throwing the guitar in for firewood. Lol
    We are who we are and some have more time and love for different things. We have to love what we want to learn ,believe we can do it, and that will take the road blocks out that stops us from wasting time if we truly want to learn something. You have great guest Andy wood is multi talented full of energy so much so he can't do some of the things you do and that is taking it slow to teach each note and the where and why of it slowly for all to understand. It's like he is on a different planet or all at one time. Lol . I can't do sweeps and I guess I could learn it but to me it has no heart .but at the same time it's awesome. Too advanced in something I wouldn't use. Now the slide technique is pretty cool but never going to be as good as the real deal. But again it's awesome.....

      Songs are king its true. A lot of people just play what they feel. Some goes mainstream and a lot doesn't. I like finding out what makes all kinds of player tick and Andy is super human when it comes to playing. So much to learn from all kinds of players. For some it's also never about appealing to the masses they just play what's in their heart and that is all that matters. These days people can generate enough of an audience on their own where they can make a fantastic living and not have to ever crack even mainstream radio. In a way its a great place to be in.

      @@BrettPapa No doubt Andy is just a monster; the greatest picking technique I’ve ever seen, and so many other amazing skill to boot. I guess the point I was trying to make, and Andy is “above” what I’m about to impart, is that the internet is rife, to an almost nauseating degree, with shred heads; and most of them do their thing to what amounts to incredibly uninspired backing music; I.e. the background is just a vehicle to allow them to wank away. The reality is that almost no one, outside the esoteric realm of wannabe virtuoso guitarists gives much of a shit about virtuoso guitarists UNLESS there is a great song with the virtuosity. Why do you suppose that Joe Satriani was much more successful than Steve Vai with their respective instrumental albums circa 1987-1992? Answer: Satriani was a much better songwriter, at least to the average rock music fan; he had much stronger and “approachable” melodies while Vai was certainly the greater technician. Along these lines…I was watching the Zeppelin reunion concert from 07, specifically the song For Your Life, and it’s amazing, that opening Page riff just kicks the shit out of all the RUclips wanking, combined, just by itself. THAT is what we need more of! NOT all the instrumental gymnastic, hackneyed shit.

    Bret...you don't know who James Mitchell is?? What rock have you been under brother. I have watched Brent Mason bring people to the club, just so they could see James Mitchell.

    All the people in the comments have never listened to shred metal. They seem to think Andy is the only guy who can shred fast. Lol There's lots of unknown guitarists that can shred just as fast. They're not on the same level as Andy from a musicality standpoint but when it comes to shredding they're just as fast. For instance, there's a dude called Anton (forgot his last name) and he can even play at Paul Gilbert speeds and it sound just like Paul Gilbert. He's not known at all. Very small channel.

      There will always be people that can play fast. At the end of the day it is can you be musical while doing it.

    911, state the reason for your call. We need the Fire Department immediately, Andy Wood is over at Brett Papa’s house and because of his hot smokin playing, he has set another guitar on fire. Send a medic just in case, we don’t know if he is injured or not, we can’t figure out how he plays that fast without burning his fingers. LOL 😂 Amazing musician, player, song writer, and performer. Thanks. ✌️
