I know I'm two years late to the party on watching this video, but holy smokes on so many levels. Thank you both for spending the time to do this, and please, I'm begging you both, please do another episode. There is so much useable info in this video its crazy!
At 30.26 "without my brain turning into mush" an essential life skill in today's devise driven world. Thanks for the rundown on intervallic structures and how to learn and overcome that problem because I too struggle to memorize. Nice one guys.
Watching Brett try to navigate through this without cracking up is the best part lol Andy's licks are just so stupid; I can't help but laugh man, Love it
Haha yeah it's pretty crazy seeing him play like that right in front of your face. One of the most technically terrifying guitarists I have ever had over. Super humble and down to earth guy as well. Good times!
I bet man haha That whole video is just awesome. Those guitars look and sound killer. I could hang around and talk to you guys all day, and just love it. lol Rock on!@@BrettPapa

@@BrettPapa I subscribed because Andy ! 😂😂 Just kidding, well not sure if I would’ve stumbled here if he weren’t on the header & thumbnail. Happy I did✌️
Ha. I thought that was Papastache's face in the beginning, being hid by the hat. I was like, "damn, Papa really upping his game, never seen him play like that before!" LOL
Good Lord. I've just unlocked almost 30 years of playing understanding the intervals once and for all beyond root, 4th and 5th. It would be so much easier years ago if someone told me the way he did. I just mashed up with what I already knew. Damn. DAMN
Isn’t G major in a C context mixolydian? Andy said it was Lydian and unless I’m mistaken F would be Lydian? G Lydian would be D major right? THIS is why modes are so confusing! Great video!
I was surprised you bring up Danny Gatton who literally smoked the neck. Now that boy was terrifying ! ! Another great video Brett ! ! I've had a great evening watching your videos ! ! I will be checking you out in greater detail. Try to get Andy back.
Andy Wood is really someone special. As odd as it seems there are so many similarities between him and Guthrie Govan particularly with regard to their beginnings in acoustic, bluegrass and folk guitar (although Andy is certainly the more accomplished in this area as his discography reveals). Both have extraordinary technical facility, can play virtually anything they hear, have a knowledge of music theory that let's them share what they know verbally, and, most compelling to me, can share/describe it with others in a way that can be understood regardless of skill level. Never patronizing but with sincerity and a love for music that they both so obviously share. Thanks for putting the Andy Woods interviews and lessons together. He is a gem and I have been following both of you for a long time. Please keep it up, thanks so much.
Agree 100%. Both are incredible players and great teachers as well. I would love to get Guthrie G. on at some point. Got a chance to hang with him once as he was super cool and very humble.
He does a great job of modelling the proper right hand position and technique. Notice how his thumb is in a straight line with his forearm, and he holds the pick with his thumb and the left side of the first joint of his index finger (not the tip of the finger).
Am I the only one who spent a good 5 - 7 seconds at the beginning of this video wondering why Brett Papa was pretending to make this video as Andy Wood, then got real confused when I realized they were both in the frame? Great video! I've heard Andy Wood play a few times on RUclips and I loved his playing; but my god, he sounds amazing! I could listen to him play all day.
At 44:05 when he did that pedal/root tone, I immediately thought of Black Sabbath War pigs, The part when Tony Iommi starts going into the Solo section. must be in the same KEY structure. LOL. Just a coincidence.
Brett, you should do a series with Emil Werstler. At least have him on the show if you never have. Thanks for all you do. The Mark Lettieri stuff is great. Andy is great, too. Rock on.
@BrettPapa According to his website, he is still based out of Nashville. He was a founding member of the death Metal band Daath and is a former member of Chaimera. His current project is called Verlorener. He plays mostly gypsy jazz, though. The dude is amazing.
