Thank you for talking in intervals instead of just fret numbers. I had a teacher that used to say if you just memorize the fret numbers you use then you'll know the lick in that key, but if you learn the intervals you'll learn the lick in any key.

100% facts! Memorizing fret numbers is the easy way out and it can be effective, but if you take a few extra minutes and get in the habit of speaking and looking at guitar lines intervalically, it will pay off in spades 🤘

You're a great teacher Andy. I used to work with your dad at Mayland Community College, and I know he was a great instructor. I meant Eric Johnson in person back in 99 he actually gave me the time of day and we had a great 10-minute conversation about life. I recently had the opportunity to do a meet-and-greet with bonamassa 😮 although he's a great player I wish he could be a little more humble to the people who idolize him. That is all

I don’t know why I’ve never stumbled upon your channel until now. But I have and still am binge watching all your videos. The more I watch the more pissed off I get at myself for not diving in deep years ago. I have always been a very good guitar player but I can’t even hold a flame next to you dude. I am mostly self taught and never had support to progress when I was young but I grew up with a bunch of musicians older than me that took me and a few others my age under their wings and showed us the way. So I have progressed slowly through three marriages, three daughters and eight years in the Air Force and everything else life has thrown in my path...anyway enough of my useless ranting.
Thank you, great lessons, very overwhelming but awesome and humbling...

Well I’m glad you’re not playing video games. What an awesome lesson! I appreciate how you have managed to capture a snippet of advice from a life time of guitar playing, and then put it in a short 20 minute video that pretty much anyone can understand. I’ve always struggled with knowing the best way to make the pentatonic lines “smooth”. That’s the first lesson that makes sense to me. Thanks.
But enough talk, time for me to get practising! Keep up the great work Andy!

I've been subscribing from the first Woodshed session, but lately I've been going back over these at watching them with a much more attentive eye/ear. Pure gold! It's far more valuable to learn how to "think guitar" in a few styles than it is to learn a few licks by wrote. Give a man a fish, and you can feed him for a day. Teach him how to think guitar, and who cares about fish.

Uncle Ben Eller plugged the video and I just had to come over and take a look. Great lesson Andy! Ok, I'm a guitar newb. My guitar teacher is teaching me to see/use triads to harmonize the major scale; for soloing ideas, we're exploring all things pentatonic. I would be interested in learning more about how to see/conceptualize the 5 pentatonic box shapes as scale degrees and ultimately as intervals while trying to solo. When playing the boxes, I tend to get lost on what scale degree I'm playing as I move across the strings vertically. I hope all of that makes sense. And if not, well, make some more lessons like this one because it was pretty dang nifty! Thanks man!!

Such a great way to approach a topic like this. Seriously, this is the best lesson I’ve seen in the EJ and Joe Bonamassa style of odd note groupings. Maybe the hexatonic subject is up to date ?? This extra flavor is extremely important. Just adding to your pentatonic the key note to add a specific scale vibe. Not many lessons out there on the subject. thanks for your great efforts Andy !

Thanks so much Andy , it’s a real treat to see one of the greats spend time with us like this . It doesn’t happen very often .
Thanks for mentioning how they don’t end on the low note and instead go up to the octave or higher., the “Finale”..! Seems obvious but I’ve never heard it actually noted .
And you did say something deceptively clever about picking technique
You said That you alternate pick everything because that’s what you do and you make it work.! Well , that is extremely liberating because after watching Troy and others break down how certain people do it certain ways it’s easy to start to think that it is how it has to be done . Trying to do it in a way that feels really unnatural can be discouraging , so thanks for that .
Thanks for speaking in intervals and notes Instead of fret number , that makes us learn our theory and therefore better players . Your a great teacher , much love
