You know there's this guitarist by the name of Tim Pierce who is a pretty damn good guitarist, and by watching his channel, I found out that he played guitar on a lot of songs that I actually enjoy. You should check him out!
Brent Mason is as good as it gets and has been for many years. I always appreciate that he is a regular participant in the annual Jerry Reed tribute in Nashville along with Tommy Emmanuel, my old friend Richard Smith and many others.

First time I saw Andy play was at a little bar in Knoxville, TN about 20 years ago. He started playing and everyone stopped what they were doing, jaws were on the floor. Great player.
same. I had just moved to nashville and was visiting friends back in Knoxville and we went to a bar and he was the "band" in the back corner. after his set I introduced myself to him and exchanged numbers. told him I was working with Dann Huff (who happened to be his favorite guitar player), and then a few years later he was in nashville and touring with Rascal Flats as their guitar player. crazy small world
I have been around Andy for 5 years at the Woodshed Guitar Experience and with him on Patreon for 1.5 years. He is hands down the best teacher, coolest dude, gives so much of himself for others and incredible player! To see him up there w Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Joe bonamassa, Brent mason, Steve Morse, mark letteiri, etc and he shines! He is a wealth of knowledge but has a huge desire to keep growing and learning. He is a joy and blessing to world!
1) not enough people talk about the slow down feature on YT. 2) Andy’s interview on No Guitar Is Safe is fantastic. There are 3-4 jams with Jude Gold. They are so much fun. The very first one is right at the podcast intro. 3) I’m really happy to see this guy get more recognition. 👍🏼👍🏼
He does what you say, Tim: start with a simple melody, vary it a bit, then a burst of speed, return to the theme and conclude. Great guitar players. Great restraint. Both of you.
Back when I was a local venue audio engineer in Knoxville, TN I used to have the pleasure of working with Andy quite a lot. Watching his career evolve over the years has been awesome. He is genuinely one of the nicest guys I worked with and a hell of a musician. He used to rip up some Van Halen back in the day. He also kills it on mandolin. It's so awesome to see you profiling him. Thanks!
Andy is the read deal. He is a humble and incredible talent and deserves high praise for his work. Also he’s a huge EVH nut and does amazing instrumentals of VH songs.
I was blessed to find Andy and his Woodshed family during the crazy Covid year. I've been following him ever since and know he is one of the very best not only on his ax but as a human who just wants everyone to enjoy the short ride that we have here on earth. Thanks for the video Tim and thank you Andy for being you!
Tim, thanks for turning me on to Andy Wood. Just like you and Rick Beato you all in my world are probably the greatest players around. Not only do you play great but you’re all extraordinarily humble people. You’ve taken, your talent & wisdom, sharing it, with the masses. You are truly inspiring. It also shows that it’s not only the playing it’s the sound that comes from the heart & soul making the magic translate into music that we love. Andy’s absolutely brilliant and still has his feet on the ground. Thanks for the heads up. Keep on doing what you do!!! We love it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It's great to hear how much you resonate with Andy's talent. And thank you for the kind words about my channel and the work we are doing :)
I met Andy at the Guitar Center in Knoxville, TN in the mid 2000's and got to know him a little bit. He was an inhuman monster player even in his late teens / early 20's. We used to talk about where we were with our playing, what we'd been doing lately, etc. A couple weeks after Dream Theater's Live at Budokan came out he had already worked through the whole thing and played along with it note for note. However talented you think Andy is... he's better than that.
I think one of the most underrated insanely talented guitarists today is Uncle Larry. I mean he's not a spotlight name he's a session man but his presence online since Covid began is making his name for him.

Tim, its so much fun watching your videos. I could be feeling so stale and then i watch your take on Andy Wood then i get back on the guitar. Hes such a refreshing, inspiring player
Andy is a Mandolin player that plays guitar. I first worked with him starting in 1996 when he was 15. He was a MONSTER back then, before he turned his attention to electric guitar.
Not only is he one of the best guitar players alive today, he's also one of the nicest and most humble dudes you'll meet, plus he's got excellent taste in cars. Great video Tim!
What I love most about Andy is that he can so effortlessly morph into any style and speed yet still keep that incredible feel and sweet tone. Some players overplay while Andy seems to always play just the right notes to captivate the ear.
I remember perfectly when I heard Steve Morse for the first time, near the beginning of his solo career. I was floored. The fluidity, the combination of artistry, compositional variation, actual song construction, and note selection to evoke emotion. I don't think I had ever heard a guitarist do that on a "guitar album". He wrote songs, that happened to be lead by guitar voices. I smiled widely when Andy played Steve to demonstrate how to play fast (and the difference in the mechanics). It never occurred to me that Steve played fast. I didn't care. I certainly didn't listen to him for that reason and I have no shortage of appreciation for technical skill. Sometimes these artists put all the pieces together in magical ways.
Andy Wood’s palpable enthusiasm, interest, and joy in his art is infectious. While naming anyone the best example in a world of brilliant examples is a dubious exercise, he is certainly an elegant and masterful practitioner of his art, fully realized and at the top of his game.
Just came back to watch this over again, This is such great video and I love how you take us on a journey trough the entire video. This is so well done!
Tim thanks for this video. I’d never heard of Andy and now I’m like “where has this guy been all my life?” Utterly impressed by the breadth and depth of his mastery in different styles, and his ability to connect. What a monster player!
Tim, Andy's great and I appreciate you highlighting him. I must say that I learn more from your channel even when it's not a teaching video. I'm going to go back and "like" more of the videos because sometimes us old-timers (64) forget. Keep up the great work.
Tim, Juilliard grad here. We ALWAYS went on stage to GIVE, never once thinking about what we would get. Appreciate you man, wish I could play guitar like you ...
Nick Johnston is the same - incredible ability but focuses on composition and beautiful guitar playing. I used to have the original Andy Wood Suhr - (black and silver one), lovely guitars - always wanted the whisky barrel one - it's so cool!. Andy's chickin' picking is incredible too. Great player
Kinda pokie on Tumeni then again so is Morse sorry but he’s alternate picking a pretty obvious sweeping lick (banjo rolls sound even better): FFS. Oh and btw Scottish classical guitarist David Russell is the best guitarist in the world right now
