I think the part that hurt the most about her death is that the writing made it feel like they felt it was justified and earned the same way Roland's was, when in reality, it couldn't have been as impactful unless she was alongside Lilith from the beginning. Roland's made you feel something because he was with you from the time you busted him out of prison to the second he got shot through the chest. Lilith was in the story of 3 long enough to get the shard and then she was dead. All she was there to do was fill in the gap between 2 and 3 and lore dump Ava onto everyone. Even after she died, there was hardly the same kind of reflection for her that you got to experience with Roland. One of my favorite parts of Borderlands 2 is how much weight it put on character deaths. You could feel Roland was gone when you got back to Sanctuary and heard every person in town talk about how much he had done for them. All Maya got was an awkward memoriam from Tannis, Lilith had almost nothing to say and Ava solidified her position as the worst character in the series by screaming at Lilith about how it's her fault she's dead, even though it was 100% on Ava. It feels like they killed Maya just because 2 and Tales killed off major characters too.

Maya was my first playthrough character and I love her personality and voice acting. After watching this video, I kinda understand what gearbox trying to archieve through Ava but it was done so horribly none of their intention matters now.
I don’t think I’ll ever understand why she was killed off. She was in the story for such a small amount of time, then all of a sudden she’s dead and the memorial they give her sucked. It’s almost as if they really just wanted to get rid of her character for whatever reason and this was the best they could come up with. Only two options I see here that would please the fans is either 1) Maya is not actually dead or 2) Kill off Ava in a similar shitty way since literally nobody likes her.
The only reason to kill her off was to shoehorn Ava getting siren powers into the story. They probably have other plans for the sirens and did not have better options (in their mind).
Gearbox really fucked up big time with Borderlands 3, terrible storyline, terrible characters interaction, lots of plot holes, overused cringe live streaming jokes, lots of cut content that should work better than the base game was, etc etc while the gunplay combat and skill were quite the improvement from BL2. But still though, fuck I missed Anthony Burch writing style humor and plot in Borderlands, he might be an asshole but his talent is much better than Gearbox incompetent lead writer that don't know how to write a plot. And fuck, I regret buying BL3 on launch day fuck me!!

I don't believe how they just killed her off like that and then they never adress her death or advance the story through it. It was just an unnecessary death.

She's had Kreig simping for her for the whole game but hearing it from someone else kinda confirmed she isn't just attractive to psychos and give her a well deserved boost in ego, especially since she probably didn't get much direct praise back on Athenas
At 15:15 in the video, it doesn't clarify how Maliwan knew the key was on Athenas. So in the game there's an audio log you can find on Athenas that explains that one of the monks betrayed the order and Maya, and gave Maliwan a tip about the vault key piece.

I kind of get that he's not really fond of his brothers, so he's not too sad about that. He tells this when he saves Hammerlock in the main story.
I would be fine with maya’s death if Troy ACTUALLY went with the full betrayal route at the end of the story and didn’t just die off. Her death didn’t seem like it was as important as it should have been because of that and it should have impacted the remainder of the story a lot more than it did, which I think that’s what gearbox was trying to go for, but they just handled the last quarter of the story sooooo badly

I'm also gonna add to the "do Krieg next" especially since we might be having the 4th DLC about him, but I also want to have one on Zane and the Flynt family. It's interesting to me that they have included the Flynt family so strongly in the game. But I might be just little biased since Krieg and Zane are the mains from 2 and 3. ;) Anyway, you do awesome work with these videos.

Well there is a sliver lining in dlc 4 spoilers btw her memories and maybe part of her soul were transferred to Kreig by her final echo log based on dialogue when you speak to her so she's sort of a sprit but only in krieg's mind

Her death is unfortunate but now I think about it watching this video she may have known how to pass down her powers to Ava as her plan for her. And when she first met ava she saw potential that she would be a siren one day and I'm not going to lie as much I'm upset with ava, I miss maya as well would be a lot better if her powers found their way to krieg that would be an awesome twist

Seeing how bratty and spoiled Ava was, ESPECIALLY with blaming Lilith for Maya's death, makes me think of this one scene in Cautious Hero. Wherein the titular character confronts a young hot-headed general that only got her position because her dad was the king, and points out that she led her troops to bloodthirsty demons with no chance of victory DEMANDING an honorable fight. In other words, the demons didn't kill her troops, she did. As such, she tries to punch him, only to get slapped in the face HARD. Outside the distillery there is an echo log on how one of the monks tried to get rid of Maya in order to establish control. Therefore, they called for Maliwan to come and take the vault key
If all sirens are drawn to Athenus is it possible that the 7th siren is imprisoned there and because all sirens are drawn together (I should probably lay off these videos a bit)
posted this on another video but it does involve maya and is kinda my prodiction for dlc 4 so im going to copy it to here. A lot of people are wanting Krieg to get rid of Ava in dlc 4... But i think it would be the perfect chance to expand her character and redeem her while at the same time bring Maya back... Remember in a side quest early on in the game you go into a severed heads mind by getting broke down and turned into data. Then find her memory fragments to help her return. When she returns she gets a new body made from scratch through the reality tech along with the head we entered from. Maybe if that tech is canon it will be how we enter Kriegs mind. And ava goes with us cuz she wants to know more about maya and Krieg would be the perfect person to learn from, considering how her death effects him. While in there we see a more emotional side of Krieg and his memorys and thaughts of Maya. Causing Ava to start maturing and growing with her own emotional reactions to his view of Maya. Tword the end we get Krieg to calm down and combine both personalities into one. Causing his inner self to start crying wishing he could show her how much he has changed because of her. Then maybe Tanis will come up with a plan to use her siren powers to communicate with the system that transferred them into Kriegs mind and use the essence of Maya that still lingers within the book Ava keeps with her to bring Maya back to them. Then maybe Maya will take charge in Liliths absence considering she was doing alot of research on sirens and their powers befor she died. Possibly leading to the next games story and finding Lilith. P.S. maybe Ava is Kriegs daughter from when he was sane and is the little one he is always talking about in his dialog. Maybe Maya learned that and it was why she was willing to entrust her powers to her... But thats just a side thaught and likely not the case. Also it would be interesting to have Ava with you in Kriegs mind and see that memory with you... could be an amazing reaction on her part and humanize her more.
Borderlands 3 did everything wrong in terms of story telling, worst sin was Maya and how her dead was immediately discarded, Lilith is literally like "so sad.. aaanyways those vaults won't open themselves, get to work people"
Seeing that this video is about 10 minutes shorter than the other character story videos hurt a bit... not because the video quality but because I immediately knew why it was shorter than the rest ... They cling to the original characters and then do us dirty with the BL2 ones.

I hate to nitpick, but both psycho kreig and sane kreig immediately fell in love with Maya, it was one of the only few things both kreigs would always both agree on. Hence the situation going how it did and neither party ending up killing eachother, with krieg joining Maya in the end
The way they handled her death in BL3 is just so wrong. They built up her backstory so much, only to have her killed, without her knowing much about Sirens as a whole is just upsetting. Could you do a history video about either Tannis or Lillith next? Thanks.💙👍

Yes, I thought so, it was Tannis. Tannis is one of the first archeologists on Pandora when Dahl send them (based from ECHO records on BL1)

It's interesting to me that they have included the Flynt family so strongly in the game. But I might be just little biased since Krieg and Zane are the mains from 2 and 3. ;) Anyway, you do awesome work with these videos.

Well there is a sliver lining in dlc 4 spoilers btw her memories and maybe part of her soul were transferred to Kreig by her final echo log based on dialogue when you speak to her so she's sort of a sprit but only in krieg's mind

i think krieg's history will have to wait until borderlands 3's dlc 4 is released. since gearbox hinted that krieg will be a main char in that dlc.

Her death is unfortunate but now I think about it watching this video she may have known how to pass down her powers to Ava as her plan for her. And when she first met ava she saw potential that she would be a siren one day and I'm not going to lie as much I'm upset with ava, I miss maya as well would be a lot better if her powers found their way to krieg that would be an awesome twist

Maliwan knew about the part of the vault key coz one of the monks sold the info to them. This info is in bl3 on a echo near the brewery on Athenas

Seeing how bratty and spoiled Ava was, ESPECIALLY with blaming Lilith for Maya's death, makes me think of this one scene in Cautious Hero.
Wherein the titular character confronts a young hot-headed general that only got her position because her dad was the king, and points out that she led her troops to bloodthirsty demons with no chance of victory DEMANDING an honorable fight. In other words, the demons didn't kill her troops, she did.

The reason I bring this up is because I would like to have something similar in-game, where after saying Lilith got Maya killed and ran off, you could confront her, slap her in the face (melee button) and have a character-specific line point out that Maya died protecting her when she wasn't supposed at the vault in the first place.

posted this on another video but it does involve maya and is kinda my prodiction for dlc 4 so im going to copy it to here.
A lot of people are wanting Krieg to get rid of Ava in dlc 4... But i think it would be the perfect chance to expand her character and redeem her while at the same time bring Maya back... Remember in a side quest early on in the game you go into a severed heads mind by getting broke down and turned into data. Then find her memory fragments to help her return. When she returns she gets a new body made from scratch through the reality tech along with the head we entered from. Maybe if that tech is canon it will be how we enter Kriegs mind. And ava goes with us cuz she wants to know more about maya and Krieg would be the perfect person to learn from, considering how her death effects him. While in there we see a more emotional side of Krieg and his memorys and thaughts of Maya. Causing Ava to start maturing and growing with her own emotional reactions to his view of Maya. Tword the end we get Krieg to calm down and combine both personalities into one. Causing his inner self to start crying wishing he could show her how much he has changed because of her. Then maybe Tanis will come up with a plan to use her siren powers to communicate with the system that transferred them into Kriegs mind and use the essence of Maya that still lingers within the book Ava keeps with her to bring Maya back to them. Then maybe Maya will take charge in Liliths absence considering she was doing alot of research on sirens and their powers befor she died. Possibly leading to the next games story and finding Lilith.
P.S. maybe Ava is Kriegs daughter from when he was sane and is the little one he is always talking about in his dialog. Maybe Maya learned that and it was why she was willing to entrust her powers to her... But thats just a side thaught and likely not the case. Also it would be interesting to have Ava with you in Kriegs mind and see that memory with you... could be an amazing reaction on her part and humanize her more.

I hate to nitpick, but both psycho kreig and sane kreig immediately fell in love with Maya, it was one of the only few things both kreigs would always both agree on. Hence the situation going how it did and neither party ending up killing eachother, with krieg joining Maya in the end

apparently greed also took part in maya's ashification...
But the scene happens when you leave the vault.

To this day, I’m still playing borderlands 2. So in my book maya is still alive and ava isn’t born yet.
they could have made Maya's death alot more impactful if she was in teh stroy more and Krieg was with us... what made Rolands death so impactful was his involvement in the story and Lilith was there to see it happen.. a lovers bond per say.... but yeah.. screw Ava
