if you look at Lilith's models from each game, the tattoo has progressively gotten larger, and in each game her feats with Phasewalk grow in scale as well.
well it's not the only time they hint at tatoos growing as their power grows, as maya levels up her tatoos spread to completely cover both arms instead of just part of 1
I used to think the bubble that Maya creates with Phaselock traps someone in the same dimension that Lilith Phasewalks into. I honestly don't think the writers even know what Siren's purpose are yet 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe this dimension is where Sirens get their powers from. Perhaps whatever is in this dimension is trapped and are giving sirens their powers in hopes that one of them will free the ones trapped inside. Maybe that’s what the sirens purpose are.
I think the developers have some idea. But it's going to be years before the next game. So they are going to change their minds dozens of time before the game is released.
@@elsonlam They must have broad strokes for sure but i would be surprised if anything finalized as im guessing 4 wil be about the 7th or the great war.
@@AshenVanguard Tina in 3 just isn't the Tina from bl2 imo. I laughed with Tina in bl2, I hated every minute of ava on the screen. Doesn't help that the Vault hunters don't exist when Maya dies and ava bitching and blaming everyone else when she caused Mayas death
The one thing I wish they'd done during Borderlands 2 & 3 is given special interactions for the sirens. They're supposed to be rare yet when you walk into Lillith's liar in B2 as Maya, she doesn't even acknowledge you. Same with Amara in B3. Damn, you've got 5 sirens in the same place but it feels like 4 because you're ignoring Amara 😭
@@mack2001x to be fair, iirc that was only 3ish months before the release of BL3, so i think when they went back to make that dlc they already had the story of BL3 finished and ready to release that influenced the DLC
2:30 tannis says her powers were a "gift from a guardian angel" so I think they co-ordinated it. Also her mine where she mastered her powers is titled "Angels Light"
I think that's only because she knew of Angel and her powers, so getting them was in essence "a gift." I still believe Angel chose Tannis specifically, but I think that was just a joke Tannis was making, and it was called Angel's Light because she was studying Angel's past
I had a theory that Angel chose Tannis because they both suffered isolation but to differing degrees. Tannis was on the verge of going mad but came back from the edge after constantly interacting with the main group of vault hunters during and after Borderlands 1. Angel very rarely got to interact with anyone by her own choice throughout the games until her death. Angel possibly took an interest in Tannis due to their shared isolation problems?
I think Angel passed them on by choice, because she WAS aware of Tannis. Angel knew how smart she was, maybe she knew Tannis would be a good candidate.
I feel like they pretty much confirmed this is what happened in BL3. Like I'm pretty sure I remeber them expressly stating that sirens can either pass on powers by choice or at random (depending on the will of the siren) otherwise how would Maya be able to guarantee Ava inherited her powers?
When you actually go after Niryad's stone thingies she says in one of them (atlas HQ if I'm not wrong) that sirens can "choose someone worth to burden" or let the power go free and get someone random. As angel did choose Tannis and Maya chose Ava
You notice how all the sirens tattoos have different styles and flows as well as colors (sometimes). The tattoos may be an indication on what the sirens power may be
@@dobwen1542 There's a difference between a style and a color. Though being able to immediately tell what a power is based on the tattoo design may be a little much.
I hope that we get more Siren lore in the next game. I could see Tannis trying to unite all of the Siren sisters, either in an attempt to learn more about their origins/powers or to be safer in numbers since they pretty have target tattoos as well. I would also love to hear Steele’s backstory. I don’t see why we can’t hear an Echo of when she first met Knoxx and she explains to him what she can do and convinces him to let her lead the Lance forces on Pandora so she can get to the Vault
If you think about it a sub category of the main borderlands storyline are the sirens. It might be the main storyline as well depending on whatever the war the watcher referenced is for actually. Every game has a siren and each game the sirens become more important. If they dont screw bl4 we might get some answers
I personally would love for the 4th game to have all the vault hunters be sirens and then focus the story around sirens completely. This would work cause after Typhon opened the vault on Nekrotafeyo there is now 7 sirens rather than 6 (6 would work as well, but then they'd have to truly confirm that Lilith is dead and not like some theories think, stuck in that other dimension holding Elpis in place somehow). Have Ava grow up, become more likeable (cause she's no longer an annoying teenager) and give her an improved version of Maya's powers. Have her step down and give Amara or one of the other previous vault hunters the reigns of the Crimson Raiders so she can fully focus on the vault hunting (I feel this would make sense with her character). Create another character with a version of phaseleeching (Tyreen's powers) that works well for gameplay. Create someone with Steele's abilities (whatever they may be) and someone else that fulfills the last of the "original 6". And if the developers didn't want all their vault hunters to be women this would be a prime opportunity to introduce a trans character into the mix. I've put a lot of thought into it and I think it could work really well, but maybe that's just me enjoying sirens a bit too much.
@@kimmikoakakarolin Yes very good points! I also thought that since we got to explore Kreig's mind, Ava could be sent in there too so Maya can train her (assuming Kreig preserved her memory that completely). Or she could train Ava through Kreig on the outside. He'd struggle to interpret Maya's teachings but I could see him instructing her how to use Phaselock more effectively. "GRAB THE MEATWALKER IN THE FLOATY BUBBLE!"
There was an audio log that you can find in the Pre-Sequal that details a little girl that develops powers. It even describes the Eridian coming to the child and her mother after the girl fell ill. She was told by the Eridian that she was a siren and would survive her illness. Since this log came shortly after the events of the original, it would be easy to suggest that this kid may have Steele's powers, whatever they may be.
Oh I can't believe I forgot about this! I remember the echo log as well. Its been some time since I've played the TPS but yeah, I bet that the little girl has Steele's powers since it lines up after she died.
@@zelltoeum2349 I doubt that. Angel was never on Elpis. She was on Pandora and had her powers well before the events of the series. In BL3, there is a side quests where you find one of Handsome Jack's storehouses and hear the story of when Angel got her powers. She did not get visited by any of the Guardians prior to her powers manifesting. It just kind of happened.
@@witecatj6007 Angel was on Helios at the time of TPS. Not Pandora. Once Erdium comes to the surface and Jack knows about the Warrior does she get moved to Pandora, obviously after Control Core Angel was built.
As much as I enjoyed playing Amara, am I the only one who was disappointed that we couldn't do a Jojo's/Fits of the North Star rapid fire fist barrage? You can't give me Asura arms and not the ability to punch really really fast! I know that was Brick's action skill, but if they gave her a version of Maya's phaselock, why not?
This is just my thoughts, but it's probably because of those exact reasons. In order to do that, they'd have to reuse ideas from past playable Vault hunters. This would take away from Amara being her own character, and would make her (to my knowledge at least) the only Vault hunter to borrow from the ones who came before her gameplay wise. Besides, I personally think it would go against her character to have a flurry attack, at least as of BDL3. Amara's whole deal was the fact that she'd been meditating and connecting with her siren powers, and the animations used for her action skill (I believe, it's been a while since I've seen it so take this with a grain of salt) is very reminiscent of Tai chi, which is more about defending and meditation than anything else; meaning she would be very strict about following those teachings and practices. Though I agree (though I haven't watched Jojo, I believe I have an idea of what you're talking about) it would be neat to see a revamped flurry attack move, I think it's highly unlikely TL;DR, Amara's backstory is focused on meditation, and that reflects in her Tai chi-esq fighting style; making her having a flurry attack not make a lot of sense story wise.
@@samanthafaenovale2463 Just throwing it out there, but a lot of the abilities in Borderlands 3 have already been used in older games. Flak's ability to turn invisible to do extra damage was literally Zero's in 2, Zane has Axtons/Roland's shield and the drones from the guy from the Pre-sequel, Amara herself already has Maya's Phase-lock ability. So giving Amara a flurry of punches wouldn't really take away anything, seeing how everyone already copies old powers to some degree.
@@bluemas5 Ik, thank you! I wouldn't have enough space for it atm, and I'm also not a big fan of how they decided to progress the story. If I'm being honest, I think the only reasons I'd play 3 is for Tina's Wedding quest, Krieg's Echo log quest, and Angel's backstory mission (Since Handsome Jack is my favourite villain of any game series).
Maya also sprouts wings in BL2 when you're playing as her, when you're put into Fight For Your Life Edit: another connection to BL2, Angel appears to be floating in her chamber like Tannis was after her reveal. I think we have technically seen flying, we just didn't realize because Angel was so limited
@@genuineproxy1991 that makes sense. I've only ever seen them entering FFYL because I play solo due to playing BL2 on Xbox 360 until very recently. I still have yet to go online though.
Its not prediction, its choice. There is a glyph you can check in Bl3 that Nyriad states that you can "pass the burden" tô someone or just let It Go randomly. Ava becoming Siren was because Maya wanted it tô pass tô her
I have a theory since Commadant Steele was eaten by the destroyer her powers never entered back into the universe and they only re-entered the universe after the events of borderlands 3 because that's when the destroyer was fully defeated or partially who know but that's just my theory on Commadant Steele's power
While this theory is pretty cool and would make for a great story, it is unfortunately untrue, since it has been stated that when Steele died her powers did leave her and did go to someone, grandma flexington, but unfortunately she flexed so hard the tattoos came right off and she didn't get the powers, this however does prove that her powers left and did not remain there
@@antonygoedhart4798 what if then it went to Angel. she didn't get hers until she was a bit older, and this was around that time im sure everything was going down up on hyperion. Commander Steele could've had phaseshift. She died, it went on to the next host, Flemington, then moved to Angel after getting kicked off.
@@hotlillylove45 unfortunately that is also not the case, since steele died during the events of borderlands 1 and it was revealed angel used her siren powers to manipulate brick, mordecai, roland and lilith under jack's orders, so she had to have them before steele died
Phaseblast is mentioned in her skill tree in bl1. In that game it refers to the explosion that happens when she enters or exits phasewalk. This is the only way she does damage when she fights alongside you in bl2.
She also uses it as her melee in BL1. She lacks a melee weapon, so she uses a lil energy force push to hit things. I can't remember, but I think Maya and Amara do similar melee attacks.
Both Lilith in BL1 and Maya in BL2 melee attack by thrusting their hand forward and producing a burst of blue energy. So it's probably safe to assume that that is a standard siren ability.
i personally thought that Angel chose Tannis for her powers and that it was a brilliant choice. Tannis had already been studying Sirens so she would pretty instantly know what was going on. While Tannis was bonkers, she was never stupid. She was already working to take down Jack/Hyperion, which is what Angel ultimately wanted. And I think Angel knew that there was no way in hell Tannis could ever be made to work for Jack or Hyperion or Dahl or any mega corp really, given what happened to her in the past. Tannis was the best choice to make sure her powers were not abused.
I think a better way to phrase the "siren energy" power would be "energy manipulation and/or projection". Since I'm pretty sure most if not all Sirens' default melee attacks are a similar force push looking animation. Isn't Angel our first example of a Siren flying? Since she's constantly hovering above the ground when her wings are out?
Maya can heal as well. Don't know if it's really canon or even makes sence with her main ability but she has an entire skill tree dedicated to healing her and others as well as picking her friends up when they are down(giving them second wind).
I have brought this up multiple times but for bl4 I think it'd be cool if they let us play all the previous vault hunters along side some improvements to their skill trees. Give Mordecai two blood wings (cannon), give brick the hammer, give axton Roland abilities since he's... no longer with us. For Maya they could replace her with Ava, not that I particularly like her but maybe they improve her character and stuff. This would be my dream come true but it's pretty impractical to ask for this.
I would love to see Kreig as his sane self with his phyco self coming in and out. Like it comes in at times to do a funny one liner of maybe he lets the phyco part take control when he's in the chainsaw axe mode.
@@Spubbily01 yeah I'd love that, although I think it would be much more of an equal divide of screen time. Kreig is who the fans are attached to so I don't see them side lining him.
I don't think so, while being ridiculously powerful I'd say the last one might be the final key in the center of all 6 sirens and possibly has all there powers or a power over all the sirens of even can enhance sirens making them godlike
I'm ngl, the idea of Tyreen and Troy being conjoined twins was insanely creative. I wish they actually went somewhere with it and made it as interesting as it should've been instead of just making it a tiny plot point...
for sure, i also think their characters being "influencers" had alot of potential aswell, although maybe for another villain more than the calypsos, unfortunately, gearbox makes these games so obviously nothing good is gunna come out of that
20:40 My theory. Sirens have been explained to have a strange universal connection to each other. So maybe the connection Tannis had to a siren (Lilith) already made her highly likely to be the next successor of a siren power. Maybe?
Maya stated that she knew Ava would be her successor, she said she didn't know how she knew she just knew, so the eldest seeking out lilith and the idea of sirens knowing the future to some degree may not be so far fetched
I love all the sirens and their powers but what I really want is an entire game on them and not just side content, not dlc and not just collectibles. I also hope they don't drop the ball with the seventh siren
the thing about the tattoos being on the left side of the body, Amaras tattoos change depending on what element she uses. also, she can be seen levitating sometimes in the title menu. also with Asha, you can see a blue tattoo on her forehead underneath her hair.
Angel knew Tannis very well due to her big brother level of surveilance and Tannis' massive importance ever since Borderlands 1. Angel would definitely want to pass on Phase Shift to someone who could help the Vault Hunters
That's calls for a very intriguing theory. If the powers aren't passed on by design, they're lost and a new random one is given to the random chosen person.
Well as of Borderlands 3 we've got three active sirens( Tannis, Ava, and Amara ) , one siren indisposed (Lilith), and three siren spots open. Phase-leech, one unknown siren power, and one possible siren power(animal control). Between "Tales from the Borderlands 2" to "Borderlands 4" there's plenty of opportunity for the three new sirens to show up, either as playable characters, antagonists, or NPCs.
I’ve heard people talk about The reanimated Commandant Steele from the 1st game’s DLC. They theorized that based on her movements and attacks that Steeler’s powers had to do with some sort of physical augmentation that made her more agile and overall fast. Idk, but sounded like an interesting theory (even though her powers would have likely passed to the next person).
She fights like the Assassins in the Wanted:Dead! quest in the Knox DLC, after the 2nd battle with Steele Trap she even has the Assassins swords near her corps.
"The games have yet to indicate that Angel chose Tannis"... Tannis saying that it was an Angel's gift: 👁👄👁 Niryad (Atlas hq eridian stone)) saying Sirens can choose the next hosts: 👁👄👁
I can't wait to find out what steels power was. And what the 6th and 7th powers are. Like if the leech is dangerous what did the 7th siren do to get locked away
The seventh may be a all powerful siren who has access to all the siren powers and that's why you can't have every siren in one place at the same time it notifies her on their location and that's why in a later game we may have to fight the seventh as the main antagonist
But Steele was able to send out lil blade things that could almost track you, I thought THAT was part of her siren power lmfao, do people not remember fighting her in game? Edit: I know the fight was in the DLC but if Cl4ptrap reanimated her with all her abilities, as he did Knoxx and Dr. Ned, then the energy blade things she sends out SHOULD be a connection to her siren ability. I don't recall anyone in the General Knoxx DLC using targeting spinning mini blades.
@@CodeNameZ_935 theory time, the 7th is when all six other sirens are combined, like if the leech managed to obtain every other power they become the 7th

@@Biippa you forget about the crimson Lance assassins. They throw out knives although I don’t remember if they track you, but Steele being a siren and all, she probably has some way to manipulate them.
I think the reason the annointed have a version of phase walk is because he and Tyreen still had a connection, I think this because he could use phase leech after he stopped leeching off of Tyreen so I think they are still linked so what he does is imbue a copy of his sisters phase walk to his annointed troops
That would also explain why it's pretty weak in comparison to BL3's phasewalk. They only ever really go a few feet like BL1's phasewalk did, and can only use it personally.
I'm happy that someone's finally brought up the fact that Siren's utilize telepathy (Seeing as to how not a lot of people realize that Maya utilizes this ability to communicate with and understand Krieg) but did anyone else notice that Lilith is still using it for a brief period of time after Tyreen leeched her? Was that the one last trace of siren power she had left? P.S. We've seen siren's fly in BL2 (Mostly floating) but Lilith does this while being forced to charge the vault key in the warriors vault by Handsome Jack, and against Hector in the Fight for Sanctuary
I actually have a theory that the bit just after the cutscene is actually happening /while/ the cutscene was playing they just couldn’t have you play the game while a cutscene is on screen
That can’t really be the case because angel contacts you before you even get the HUD(Echo Device). Which btw I love when games take the time to explain your HUD.
honestly it kind of seems like siren powers are more interlinked than we initially realise. you distinguished Amara's Phasegrasp from Maya's Phaselock through Thoughtlock, but Amara gets the action skill augment 'Glamour' in her green tree that confuses enemies and causes them to attack their allies. Maya and Lilith also share the Phoenix/Blight Phoenix ability, where their wings emit an elemental aura around them. maybe it's just that each Siren specialises in a certain technique above all others? this would explain why most Sirens seem to be able to learn how to drain power from Eridium, but only the Phaseleech can do it without causing themselves physical damage. that would also explain why Phasegrasp/Phaselock are so similar, but Amara's appears to be an extension of her Phasetrance as the giant arms are involved. perhaps, given enough time and practice, any Siren could learn some version of Phasewalking, but not to the same distances as Lilith could. also, you said we don't see Amara's wings in-game but i figured that's what her arms were-instead of manifesting Western-inspired angel wings like the other Sirens, Amara's upbringing on Partali means her Siren aura manifests multiple arms with her hands forming various mudras like a Hindu Deity.
I could see Phaseleech being used by a future siren vault hunter. Maybe a young former COV member that became disillusioned after Tyreen's death? If they were to put more emphasis on the VH's actual impact in the story, I could see that being a unique plot point. Perhaps Tannis, Ava, and Amara are all far more distrusting of this VH cause of both of those reasons.
No, she specifically states the 7th is the strongest of them all and should not be sought out. She is fearful of this last siren, she wouldn’t talk about a 7th as another siren if it’s suppose to be her
@@TheCoreymvrck1 She was so terrified of her own power that she locked herself in a vault to die. Is it so strange that she would talk about herself in such a way?

Love how Lilith tries teleporting us and either dropped us 2 feet away or miles in bl2 but tyrene gets the power and is pin point accurate from light years away immediately
u missed the whole: over the games she got better at it... and in bl3 she teleports about anyone including herself accurately. when tyrene gets it she also gets the perfected version.
When you discover tannis is a siren in bl3 she word for word says "you could call it a gift from a guardian angel" You used that clip while stating that its a mystery and coincidence she's the successor....bruh
I think the point in saying it was a mystery is that there's nothing in the game that actually suggested Angel know how to transfer her powers on death, let alone why she would target Tannis. Much like Tannis says, she did get her power from Angel, so it's obvious that is how things went, but there's not really anything supporting the why things went that way.
I think we find out steels powers in bl4 as the new siren we use, with the 7th being the villain. Best story I can think of is she's already been found and is the author of the corporate wars, she's been hiding her tats and powers like tannis for decades
I'd rather not have another Siren as the villain, again. Although I could easily see them having the 7th being captured by the villain and possibly even be manipulated by them. Depending on how special they make the 7th's power be, it could be vastly over powered in a plot sense. Many people have noted that the powers seem to have a bit of a duality to them, so the 7th could either be completely separate or linked to all six in a way that nullifies or controls their powers.
@@ShaimingLong bl have a main villain problem, outside jack none of them are good. A siren and a corporate ceo, one who's older and more focused than any b4 her, who has actively been manipulating the war, the corporations, the sirens and the vaults, sounds epic to me. A boss you can't beat till lillith returns and is at full strength
@@sandmaker47 Ideally the main antagonist should seem like a threat outside of cut-scenes too. I felt that was BL3's biggest flaw. So many times you're stood right in front of the twins and nobody thinks to try to shoot. Your character just stands there slack jawed until they're allowed to move again. While the whole thing about fights you're meant to lose is an old trope, a middle ground where you're allowed to try fight and are out classed would actually give the villains a sense of threat. So long as the subsequent final battle isn't painfully easy by comparison.
i have a theory regarding tannis getting the sirens power. it may have been both chance and pre meditated. chance that there happened to be someone on pandora that was researching eridium so closely outside the sirens and being so close to it that she was driven slightly mad similar to being in a constant state of reliance. and angel may have wanted her power to go to someone similar to her
I’m late as hell but now that I’ve played some of BL3 (thanks steam sale lmao) I think I understand why the anointed have some of Lilith’s powers. After Tyreen takes Lilith’s powers, Troy leeches from her and probably also gains some of Lilith’s abilities. He combined them with the anointed and gave them mostly Lilith’s since that was the most developed powers he had. That explains why he can also charge the vault key like Lilith had in Bl2, at least, that’s what I think.
If they wanted to bring the Eldest into canon, I could see them saying that Lilith’s phasewalk lets you transcend not just space but time. The Eldest had used it to see into the future, and then Lilith uses it reenter the series through time travel shenanigans. Oh, and I also assumed that the users had to learn the extent of the their powers. As in, Lilith didn’t unlock teleporting for every subsequent siren, but she learned it was an extension of her phasewalk. Tyrene could do it right away because either she knew it was possible after watching Lilith or her own knowledge of siren lore from Typhon and Nekrotyfeo gave her better mastery than our heroes. As for the 7th siren, someone else wondered if it meant the leech powers, but I also wonder if it didn’t mean Troy specifically since he seemed like a weird 7th since we were initially told there were only 6.
my thought on Steele: she does not have , how to say it, external powers, but internal ones. boosting her physical strength and speed, maybe also resilience to damage? i'd love to see her again (yes, we did, but as an alive person)
My guess as to how each person got certain others Siren powers is there are certain characteristics to a person that allow them to be candidates of the Siren inheritance along with other possible factors. One would be of course distance to where the source/body of the Siren is when they pass away (this is shown with Tyreen getting the leech powers only because she was conceived in the same Vault the past Siren had died in). Second would be certain characteristics including smarts, whit, personality, etc. This is shown with Tannis inheriting Angels abilities. It seemed from a young age Angel was possibly incredibly smart for her age, as she was able to use the technology based powers as a child with ease. When she died because Tannis is probably the smartest person on Pandora (the distance factor coming in), she got the powers. This can also be seen in Ava when she inherited her powers from Maya: they were both quite rebellious. This is a bit of a stretch with them but they're personalities are very similar to one another. Third (this is in terms of Maya & Ava along with how Maya's powers have been passed down over time on her planet) is naming a specific successor to the powers. This could be something she found out about through archives at the temple, maybe through her dreams (in reference to her talking in her sleep about Nyriad), etc & it's bound to another person via a ritual or maybe tied to an object specifically to go to someone (Ava does still have Maya's book). But these are just my thoughts lol
My guess is that all siren powers tap into an extra dimension that mirrors and draws it's energy from the material world. Each power accesses the dimension differently. Phase walk allows them to enter and move through the dimension. Leech allows them to harness power directly from the dimension and siphon others lifeforce into it. Trance allows them to manifest the dimension physically, most often as constructs. Shift and lock are the odd ones. Shift seems to allow the users consciousness to enter the essence of things via the dimension (since the dimension likely mirrors/infuses everything in the material world) and therefore gain an intimate understanding of those things. Most often machines, but telepathy has been shown. While Lilith was shown using telepathy in BL3, it is possible that this was simply a projection of Tanis's powers through her, as Tanis was still covering up her siren nature at the time. Lock seems to be able to draw objects into the dimension, existing in both the material world and extra dimension at the same time, and infuse those objects with dimensional energy to manipulate them. This has ranged from stasis locking them, to drawing in the minds of creatures (allowing dimensional energy to addle their minds) to drawing in a creatures body enough to allow the dimension to infuse them with enough dimensional energy that they gain powers (anointed).
Amara can actually phaselock and mind control in the games with the augments to her power (pretty sure its with the stillness of mind and glamour respectively iirc) which opens a completely new can of worms... if Amara can do it, what exactly makes Maya's powers different? Are Amara's just a weaker version? or is it possible Amara learnt Maya's powers by training? if that is so, is it possible all sirens can get each others powers by simply training?
basically the story of borderlands is that a very advanced and ancient alien race found a giant fckin vacuum cleaner in the middle of space sucking galaxies like a 5 year old kid sucking on his candy for some weird reason and then decided to call a random woman with superpowers that can literally suck the life out of any living organism (probably a reference for the big succ quest in bl3) and tell her to go to their ships in space and help them build a literal planet that will be a cage were she would literally vacuum clean their entire civilization and somehow make handcuffs out of all of them to lock that giant fckin thing in a temple that's it. literally.
23:40 it is shown in the pre-sequal that skill points are non-canon however actionskills are canon so Maya's thought-lock skill isn't canon which why it is a game play only thing and thus not in borderlands 3's story. Also for the pre-sequal thing it is known as the non-canon museum and it says exhibits are skill points, new-U stations, and plot inconsistencies (im only typing this for proof).
That's kinda weird, to be honest. I do remember, that Roland's Scorpio Turret regenerates health and ammo of players, if they stay in highlighted circle around it
Honestly I think the sixth siren's powers actually ARE animal control and I have a lot to support that. First of all, the Siren powers that we know have a bit of a duality in their powers, for example Lilith can enter the other dimention herself, while Amara seems to be able to pull her energy from this dimension, and Maya seems to be able to lock others in this dimention. Also, Tyreen can leech other's energy, while Amara can project her own energy forward, and Troy seemed to be able to imbue his energy into others, which were the anointed. And there come Angel or Tannis, who could apply her energy onto machinery and the current probably, which would create a duality with a siren that could in a way "bloodbend" living things, with projecting her energy into their bodies, which would also create a duality with Maya, who could project her energy into their minds. Also, there's Asha who had animal control power, and also there was the Chinese non-canon cut content Borderlands game, where the Siren also had Rakk control, so that would be only fair, and she actually shot fiery Rakks, so maybe that would be also a kind of animal anointment possibility, you know, like Fl4k but Siren-themed, lol. (CONCLUSION: Fl4k is a siren!!!111oneone okaymaybenot )
I think Leech is probably more appropriate to call Transfer, since Nyriad took energy from Eridians and channeled it into creating Pandora. So that means there's two camps of Sirens: Those who borrow power from the alternate plane (Phasewalk, Phaselock, Phasetrance) and those who manipulate power on our plane (Phasetransfer, Phaseshift, Phasecontrol?). So it totally makes sense for the sixth to be able to more directly control people. Plus all the siren abilities seem to have a little cross over with other powers (Trance can Lock, Walk can Transfer [explaining why Lilith can teleport others], Lock can Control, Transfer can give or take powers, Shift can Walk [how the hell did Tannis get to the boss fight anyway?]).
I think the animal control is more a control power itself like Tannis. Tannis and Angel both grew up around machines and technology focus so they would naturally lean more to tech, kinda like the techromancy Vault Hunter, and the animal control might be the other use of the same power. Control could be naturally a manipulation of natural creatures but can be applied to non organic things depending on the user.
Also Maya wings were shown in bl2 not in a cutscene it was a certain ability in her skill tree where a green and yellow wing appears and the creatures instantly die when near her.
In bl1 liliths melee attack is the " force push " and so is mayas in bl2. Seems to just be some sort of basic energy manipulation that all sirens can do. My head canon is that instead of using their energy for their specific abilites, they just pool some into their hand and "release" it when they melee attack
I've personally seen correlation between the 7 Siren powers and the 7 Wonders of Witchcraft from AHS Coven. Perhaps similar source material? Telekinesis = Phaselock Concilium = Phasetrance Pyrokinesis = ? Transmutation = Phasewalk Vitalum Vitalis = Phaseleech? Descensum = ? Divination = Phaseshift
I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the users of Siren power are predetermined? Which is how I figured Maya "knew somehow" that Ava would be a siren in the future. Maybe if they meet the next wielder of their powers it's a kind of precognition or spidey sense?
I'm almost certain that one of the Eridian slabs in Bl3 mentions that the sirens can choose a host when they die or let someone at random be burdened with the siren power without any knowledge of what it is. That explains why tannins got Angels powers and Maya knew Ava would become a siren.
Yep, Angel suddenly got her powers out of the blue and it ruined her life, I doubt she would want such a thing to happen to someone else, so she picked someone who could handle the powers.
Tyreen had the ability to absorb powers from others; sirens and vault monsters at least. We don't know how many of her abilities were innate to her being a siren and which ones were taken from someone or something else. My point being, she's not the best case for determining a siren's standard abilities. If there's some wiki explaining her powers, please share, but I wasn't able to find anything in detail.
So to add my own comments, angel was 100% aware of tannis, as you said, she there for jacks rising, so when jack and wilhelm beat the crap out of her for hours and stole the vault key from her, she undoubtedly witnessed it and since both of them have a common link (the Pandora vault key) And tannis's personality is a match to the powers, i can see her being chosen, if nothing else, as an apology. Second ava does use Maya's power in a unique way, creating dome shields with them instead of Trapping enemies in spheres, that's how she protected tannis and saved lillith+tannis from tyrene. Troy also applies another unique use by firing phaselock orbs at enemies causing damage from contact alone
The phase leech ability isn't part of the 6 known abilities as it hasn't existed since mythical time. This means of the canonical known powers only four are known of the original six.
Aren't Sirens drawn to each other, and that's how they keep ending up so close in proximity? Could be how Tannis ended up with Angel's powers. There were already two Sirens on Pandora, five if we include Steele, Amara and the twins (sharing one power) albeit different timelines. Angel's powers could have transferred to Tannis because that's where the majority of Siren energy was accumulating.
Sirens are drawn to Pandora (as well as other sirens) due to the destroyer, also no, tannis got her powers because angel chose her as a host when she died
Always been suprised they've never done a 'Phase-Animation' Siren. Pretty much Zombie Siren, able to Animate a Single Corpse to their will for a time. I guess Maya's Phase-Thought kinda covers that though.
I think tannis may have inherited the angel power directly or indirectly from her, the first would be some form of a part of the angel consciousness that existed in some other form either as some kind of spirit or artificial intelligence, in a fight for sanctuary in BL2 in a side quest tannis asks us to search part of the technology that jack used to control angel's power and we ended up finding a camera like the one in angel core although he only managed to get data begging lilith who she wanted destroyed all that since it was a memory of how jack manipulated her daughter for years, at the moment that we are downloading the data, the angel's face appears for a few moments on the console while we download the data, maybe in a certain way his consciousness was linked to all that or maybe it was a digital double like the AI based on jack el Handsome, the other would be that angel's power was strongly linked to angel's past as the technology that jack created to control it, maybe when studying about angel and jack's technology, angel's power was guided to her.
I honestly don't think that their powers are actually evolving. I think it's more likely that they are simply gaining a deeper understanding of their powers and simply realizing that they can do these things. Amara with her focus on training physically makes sense that she would obtain these uses for her powers as she's all about pushing her limits. Honestly I think anyone with those powers could do those this as long as they were properly "in tune" with their specific powerset.
@@devaughnsalter6264 i think they are becoming more in-tune with their powers and realizing they can do certain things. However I don't think they are adding a new ability that is then passed down to the next siren. Meaning any of the sirens that had the phasewalk power before Lilith could teleport they just might not have explored their powers enough to realize it. Lilith didn't add the ability to teleport to the phasewalk powerset, she merely realized it was something she could do. A siren that experiments with their powers and tests their limits is more likely to realize the full extent of their powers than one who simply sticks with the same old tricks. Look at the part of BL3 when Maya reads that book and figures out how to use eridium. She didn't add a new power, she merely realized it was something she could do. The book telling her how to do it is proof others before her could do it.
I think if they make it that Steele had the same abilities as asha in the comics then it would tie together nicely, a commandant with mind control would suit well and when she died, they could have it that they passed onto asha, which would bring asha into it. Also, the references to the seventh siren could also be nyriad alluding to herself, warning not to seek her out as she and her power were locked inside the vault to prevent it passing on to a new host, either that or there's legitimately a seventh siren out there who's a massive threat. Like some kind of Omnisiren with all of their abilities maybe. It would be cool asf if the seventh was the only natural male siren and he was locked up to prevent him having children with the other sirens and having them create new sirens with new abilities that would pass on when they die. A MASSIVE stretch but that would be so cool.
My head canon: The seventh is the only natural male siren and his ability allows him to effectively toggle siren abilities on and off. That'd be such a dangerous power, and if the leech ever gained every single other siren power he would be the only thing left that can defeat her. But if he joined her and they reproduced, they'd make one person with every single siren power and no way to defeat them.
@@Ralloris That's actually really dope, I'd love it if they took that route with the lore. I do have some belief that the seventh might be male aswell because nyriad refers to the others as "sisters" and a "sisterhood" whereas she only refers to the seventh as "the seventh" no gender or sex identified.
I also agree with Steele having animal control ability, because why else would she be so stupid to open the Vault in BL1 anyway? She must have thought she can control the Destroyer inside, which she wasn't and paid for her mistake with her life.
This might not happen in Bl4, but what if we get to play as the leech as that game's Siren? I could see them having a similar skill tree to the graveborn from wonderland but without dark magic and having it be some sort of passive life steal. I could see it being a cool idea but it all depends on when the game takes place compared to Bl3. They probably won't but I'd like to see it at some point
The Siren Energy thing can kind of be explained due to Sirens having magic and manipulation over elements. Lilith’s Melee attack acts similar to Tyreen’s “force push”. But Lilith calls it “Phaseblast”.
I like to think Tannis is Angels aunt. The picture of Jack and young angel, with her mums face scratched out in BL3, which is in Tannis's own facility. My initial thought is, Tannis is Angels mum. Which also could be worked into the lore, but since they literally said angels mum was killed by Angel, I feel like Tannis is Auntie Tannis.
I like this theory, but I think Angel's mom was related to the Jakobs family (whether by blood or just very close) since that's where we see the asset w/her face scratched out most frequently. It seems like she was very close with the family, but something happened that led Jakobs family to either have bad blood w/Angel's mom or wanting to remove Angel's mom's image to protect some secret. Tannis could still be a secret Jakobs cousin and they just haven't told us though...
dont know if youll read this but i have a video suggestion, dont know if its worth the dive but here it goes: what is a vault hunter, as in, why are they so powerful(or special) what makes them particularly dangerous, what does it take to be a vault hunter. i mean i know its a weird question to ask, but when you think about this universe and its lore, vault hunters are basically one man armies usually running in a group of 4. so it be nice to dive deep into what makes a vault hunter a vault hunter.
27:04 In BL2 there is an augment you can acquire for Phaselock which allows it to seek out another target after the the first is killed. How the Anointed “dash” (it doesn’t look like the teleporting Phasewalk would present as) to and fro seems to me like an evolution Maya may have developed between 2 and 3, switching Phaselock targets at will, or even herself to get to places she couldn’t otherwise (she never got or used wings either).
I still think the whole lilith situation in BL3 was dumb. "my powers allow me to teleport to other locations and phase through doors" * door closes in front of lilith leaving her on the same side as troy and tyreen* "oh no, a door, wish i could do something about that." ( -_-)
if you look at Lilith's models from each game, the tattoo has progressively gotten larger, and in each game her feats with Phasewalk grow in scale as well.
likely due to eridium use honestly
well it's not the only time they hint at tatoos growing as their power grows, as maya levels up her tatoos spread to completely cover both arms instead of just part of 1
But it bl2 and 3 thevillains subdued her easily, which i think is bs but at least we got to hear her warn us about the rising lava
@@JudeBoi1313 interesting idea, l'd like that discussed more by you though.
I think the developers have some idea. But it's going to be years before the next game. So they are going to change their minds dozens of time before the game is released.

Angel knew how smart she was, maybe she knew Tannis would be a good candidate.
nah i think the powers themselves are aware of who could use them best to change the universe
@@HimbyHimself But not for the better as we would see it, mabye they have a goal we dont know
I feel like they pretty much confirmed this is what happened in BL3. Like I'm pretty sure I remeber them expressly stating that sirens can either pass on powers by choice or at random (depending on the will of the siren) otherwise how would Maya be able to guarantee Ava inherited her powers?
@@kimmikoakakarolin you’re right on that. They can choose, or it just picks a random person.
The tattoos may be an indication on what the sirens power may be
amara can change her tattoo colour based of element so I doubt it
@@dobwen1542 There's a difference between a style and a color. Though being able to immediately tell what a power is based on the tattoo design may be a little much.
Maya also has wings, in the Blight Phoenix skill in the Cataclysm tree. Its mostly with the fire element, but there's corrosion in it as well.
I wish we could have seen more angel in action and for that matter steele too
I hope that we get more Siren lore in the next game.
If they dont screw bl4 we might get some answers
half of these powers would be nowe in some child wouldnt it ?
I just hope it isn't another 5 years before we get the next game lol
Unfortunately I don't think the writers will remember that and/or include that in bl4.
You guys must have misunderstood the audio log. The little girl is angel
@@zelltoeum2349 I doubt that. Angel was never on Elpis. She was on Pandora and had her powers well before the events of the series. Angel had wings shortly before her unaliving
Though I agree (though I haven't watched Jojo, I believe I have an idea of what you're talking about) it would be neat to see a revamped flurry attack move, I think it's highly unlikely
TL;DR, Amara's backstory is focused on meditation, and that reflects in her Tai chi-esq fighting style; making her having a flurry attack not make a lot of sense story wise.
@@samanthafaenovale2463 Just throwing it out there, but a lot of the abilities in Borderlands 3 have already been used in older games. I think the "siren energy" thing is what Lilith calls phaseblast in bl2
@@Biippa yeah maya punches with an orb of energy too
Both Lilith in BL1 and Maya in BL2 melee attack by thrusting their hand forward and producing a burst of blue energy.
Sirens are supposed to be the rarest thing in the universe and yet they're one of the most common things a Borderlands protagonist meets.
Well they are also the protagonist in their respected game
I'm late but you forgot about Brick, he is the prettiest siren that exists
The way I always understood the sirens power is that only seven can only exist at once not that there is only seven siren powers

On the theory of sirens again what if the plane their powers use isn't just a unknown plane we think of but they are using power from our universe since they are the only people known to have free will and if we cease to exist they will cease to exist to
@@Biippa you forget about the crimson Lance assassins.
Lilith was probably using the last bit of energy within her to call for help, though the energy faded and caused her to lose her telepathy
I actually have a theory that the bit just after the cutscene is actually happening /while/ the cutscene was playing they just couldn’t have you play the game while a cutscene is on screen
Lilith being able to communicate psychically NEVER made ANY fucking sense.
It always seemed implied to be Angel hacking into your HUD.
Nyriad was the 7th siren, not one of the six. Her voice lines that you find throughout the game make specific reference to this.
Nyriad was the phase-leech power and that's why she locked herself away and warned that 7th was even more dangerous.
I like to think that angel chose tennis because Jack tortured them both to get what he wanted.
I think it’d be awesome that if Lilith did really die, her powers go to Athena, she would be a good siren
I totally like that idea. Athena can fight and can be a great leader too. This piggy-backs off the pre-squeal ending.
bro your videos always make me feel like crying. there is something about your deliverance and voice that makes everything so dramatic.
Maya had a kill skill named "blight phoenix" . When activated, she spread her wings colored orange at the top and green at the bottom. She was able to deal fire and corrosion damage to near enemies.
Edit: typo
2:19 i think its more the tech of hyperion of this, Jack create an link for the Siren (angle) for intereact with some tech or echo
When you discover tannis is a siren in bl3 she word for word says "you could call it a gift from a guardian angel"
You used that clip while stating that its a mystery and coincidence she's the successor....bruh
Super underated RUclipsr tbh, the research for the videos is just spectacular keep it up man
i have a theory regarding tannis getting the sirens power. it may have been both chance and pre meditated. chance that there happened to be someone on pandora that was researching eridium so closely outside the sirens and being so close to it that she was driven slightly mad similar to being in a constant state of reliance. and angel may have wanted her power to go to someone similar to her
Why do I just not get notifications anymore ): so glad RUclips ‘recommended’ me a video I should have had a notification for.
I believe Maya's melee from borderlands 2 is her "push"
amara has a fucking stand ability
my thought on Steele: she does not have , how to say it, external powers, but internal ones. boosting her physical strength and speed, maybe also resilience to damage? i'd love to see her again (yes, we did, but as an alive person)
"never seen sirens fly before borderlands 3" - shows clip of angel flying in bl2 almost immediately after this
"a gift from a guardian angel" -Tannis after we learn shes got siren powers
Maya also has wings if you get a certain skill in BL2
Maya also had wings you forgot to include that she gets them with one of her skill points
I never thought of that and wouldn't Maya have the weaker version seen how Amara can't augment her version of Phaselock quite heavily.
basically the story of borderlands is that a very advanced and ancient alien race found a giant fckin vacuum cleaner in the middle of space sucking galaxies like a 5 year old kid sucking on his candy for some weird reason and then decided to call a random woman with superpowers that can literally suck the life out of any living organism (probably a reference for the big succ quest in bl3) and tell her to go to their ships in space and help them build a literal planet that will be a cage were she would literally vacuum clean their entire civilization and somehow make handcuffs out of all of them to lock that giant fckin thing in a temple
that's it.
I do remember, that Roland's Scorpio Turret regenerates health and ammo of players, if they stay in highlighted circle around it
@@primarchvulkan4013
That could be explained as the turret having an ammo dispenser and a device that sprays the healing agent med hypos use
Maya sprouts wings whenever either Blight Phoenix or Backdraft (I can’t remember which) is active.
Great input! In fact, you have convinced me.
It would be interesting if Ava rediscovered Thoughtlock and became a kind of Siren Rogue/Charmer.
You know what’s be cooler? If they just un-alived her and gave the powers to someone MUCH MUCH more deserving.
Also Maya wings were shown in bl2 not in a cutscene it was a certain ability in her skill tree where a green and yellow wing appears and the creatures instantly die when near her.
I think the way the Calipsos “force push” works is by her releasing some of her stockpiled leeched power at a distance.
Telekinesis = Phaselock
Concilium = Phasetrance
Pyrokinesis = ?
Transmutation = Phasewalk
Vitalum Vitalis = Phaseleech?
Descensum = ?
Divination = Phaseshift
What is Descensum?
Seeing the future I would imagine
Descensum is actually descending into Hell and being able to come back after
I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the users of Siren power are predetermined? Which is how I figured Maya "knew somehow" that Ava would be a siren in the future. Maybe if they meet the next wielder of their powers it's a kind of precognition or spidey sense?
Maya has wings on bl2 but can only be seen if u use a specific skill
Troy also applies another unique use by firing phaselock orbs at enemies causing damage from contact alone
im somewhat surprised this video didnt discuss Eternals, humans given siren powers (namely phasewalk) through Eridian / Guardian technology
Ooh that sounds interesting. I must have missed that part of the canon. Where is this present in the franchise?
@@RamenLlama Borderlands: The Pre Sequel, theyre encountered during the final quarter or so of the game while on your way to the vault
The phase leech ability isn't part of the 6 known abilities as it hasn't existed since mythical time.
This means of the canonical known powers only four are known of the original six.
Phaseleech does count it just wasn’t being passed along since Nyriad locked herself up
Aren't Sirens drawn to each other, and that's how they keep ending up so close in proximity?
A Siren pet build would be awesome
I think tannis may have inherited the angel power directly or indirectly from her,
the first would be some form of a part of the angel consciousness that existed in some other form either as some kind of spirit or artificial intelligence, in a fight for sanctuary in BL2 in a side quest tannis asks us to search part of the technology that jack used to control angel's power and we ended up finding a camera like the one in angel core although he only managed to get data begging lilith who she wanted destroyed all that since it was a memory of how jack manipulated her daughter for years, at the moment that we are downloading the data, the angel's face appears for a few moments on the console while we download the data, maybe in a certain way his consciousness was linked to all that or maybe it was a digital double like the AI based on jack el Handsome,
the other would be that angel's power was strongly linked to angel's past as the technology that jack created to control it, maybe when studying about angel and jack's technology, angel's power was guided to her.
My headcanon is that Angel chose Tannis because she understood Sirens more than most.
You, basically, just said, "I don't think their powers are evolving...but through understanding they're evolving."
@@devaughnsalter6264reading cimprehension check: failed.
Random theory. The Eldest had the ability to phase walk into the future. That's how she could see what was to come.
I thought it was said there could only be 6 sirens at a time
Maya’s Wing’s show up when you use phase lock sometimes/A-lot
As always, amazing video.
In 20:30 ''billions of lifes'', i think in borderlands universe is probably more to trillions tbh
You never miss with these videos
Been subscribed for years and you're so well spoken and straight to the point
I miss Maya.
dont know if youll read this but i have a video suggestion, dont know if its worth the dive but here it goes: what is a vault hunter, as in, why are they so powerful(or special) what makes them particularly dangerous, what does it take to be a vault hunter. i mean i know its a weird question to ask, but when you think about this universe and its lore, vault hunters are basically one man armies usually running in a group of 4. so it be nice to dive deep into what makes a vault hunter a vault hunter.
"my powers allow me to teleport to other locations and phase through doors"
* door closes in front of lilith leaving her on the same side as troy and tyreen*
"oh no, a door, wish i could do something about that."
