Lyrics:
Never had a doubt
In the beginning
Never a doubt
Trusted too true
In the beginning
I loved you right through
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You made me promises promises
Knowing I'd believe
Promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Second time around
I'm still believing words that you said
You said you'd always be here
"In love forever"
Still repeats in my head
You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
All of your promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises

I was a kid. My dad took the family to Pizza Hut for the first time I was very excited. Best fountain soda Pepsi I've ever had. This song played while we ate our pizza. It was perfect! Shortly thereafter he died in a car accident. This song rings in my head on the regular. God bless. Hits the heart every time.
God bless you brother..... I'm very sorry for your loss.
I am sorry for your loss. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Maybe better for the therapist rather than the comment section
@@shagdaddeymaybe your a douche bag. Maybe putting that out there helped like therapy. It is a positive memory.
Sorry for your lost sincerely... I was young also when I lost my father, shortly after Highschool 😢 but just to here songs from my youth brings back a calming mood to me this song is one of them
Who is listening in 2024 ? 😊
🤣
An early 1980's classic song! I love it!
Yo mama and your daddy 👊
You have to be born in the 70s and lived in the 80s and grew up in them and when MTV was beautiful and can watch these beautiful videos like this
4 MTV and everybody else and everything else got all f****** stupid and greedy and all these dumbass reality shows happened. Like I give a f*** about watching about somebody's life on TV 👊🍀
Heard this song while playing GTA 5. Amazing song from the 80s.
I'm , police , please pull over ! 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣💯

Married my wife of 40 years October of 1983 MTV WAS AWESOME BACK THEN
I discovered MTV back in 1983 at a air force in Florida when i flew back from Europe after being stationed there 7 years, no internet back then, AFN; American forces network radio & tv, snail mail, etc... how things have changed, just saying 🌎😂😊😊
Yes, it was! I truly miss the good ole days when MTV and VH1 ACTUALLY played videos.
CONGRAULATIONS! Same here, October 1 1983. Soon to be 41 years.👍🏼
Fall of 1983, I had just started my junior year in college and this song was constantly on the radio. That was one of the best times of my life and "Promises" ALWAYS makes me feel 20 again.
Same here. I was living the time of my life.
It make me feel 7 or 6 years old. Horrible time here in Perú, but good music in the fucking radio.
AMEN TO THAT. There are millions of us who could say the same thing...
Totally. I, too, was a college freshman in 1983. It brings back memories of me as an 18 year old.
@@doyleperkins4916 I was an 18 year old college frosh Fall '83 as well, Kent State Univ. Pop boy to the max and this gem was front and center.
Wow never thought when this song came out I would be watching/listening almost some 40yrs later through a phone 📱 def one of my favs from the 80s
It's really weird going back and seeing what all these bands looked like in real life. I only had 2 or 3 channels and no MTV back in the day

An instant trip back to the 80's.
God, I MISS THE 80's. the movies, fashion and of course, THE MUSIC.
One of the best 80's songs ever
Graduated high school in 84 n this song was out shortly after school liked those mellow songs from the eighties ooopps going down memory lane
85 and this one of those hidden gems
Peaked at number 3 in 1983 actually.
One of the best 80's songs that I will never get tired of listening to!
Unfortunately no-one knows this song in Britain because it wasn't a hit here, despite the band being from the UK.
* '80s *to
Me too.
You know it man.
Which year did this come out?
Yes,even in 2019.
The 2nd British wave was unbelievable. It arguably nearly dominated popular US music in the 80's
The New Wave/Synth Pop from the UK at that time was truly incredible.
@@Kyoko_ I was a child to preteen during that time, and, being an American, it was quite a remarkable musical and cultural experience and exchange. I'm sure a good amount of British (and Irish, Scottish, and Australian) artists loved America, for its strong love and support of their output. In The '80s, The U.S. and England truly felt like "kissing cousins". We still do, actually.
So true!
@@Kyoko_ Yes it was indeed. Seems that style of music will never again be repeated, but that is good as it was truly unique and one of a kind.
UK music will always be superior compared to US that’s just facts.
80's music and the MTV era. Where did the good times go?
I built a time machine!!!
I don't know, but the 80's had some of the best music!
Money and politics got involved, MTV forgot their roots :( i miss those days
Time goes by too fast, enjoy your life...
I love 80s and i was born in 80 .
I had just started first grade. Lol, I am 44 now. This easily is in my top 5 80’s songs of all time. My love for 80’s music, especially New Wave, started in Elementary School.
👏👏👏👏I was in 6th grade. Loved these classics as well way back then!
Exactly me too lol 😂 I was. Listening to new wave music And punk in elementary school that where it all started
I remember hearing this song as a kid in 1983 maybe. I loved it so much. Still do. So cool ❤
Sophomore Year of high school... Still loving it after all these years!
I was 12 then but definitely remember this on the radio and loving it!!🔥🔥🔥☄️☄️

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This song! Brings backs so many memories--love the sound.
"You made me promises promises" Love this song. I remember this song as a teenager ☺
Me too. I was 14 in the summer of 1983 and this was one of my favorite tunes...and it still is.😁

Fall of 83’ I was a junior in High School…….This was hands down THE BEST decade ever…….1980 I was in Middle School, and in 1989 I was getting out of the service 🇺🇸😊
1983 was one of the best years ever for music IMO.
This song embodies and exemplifies all the qualities that the new romantic genre and sound was about.
Naked Eyes 1983 Nostalgia big 80 MTV
Takes me back to the early 80's when MTV played videos all day long....Great song, love the production.
A Nile Roger's production.
The 1980's was the only time period, other than the mid to late 1960's, where the music is inextricably linked to the youth of its day. The music of both era's was fresh, original and unique, it represented its respective youth counterculture.
Some of the best guitar riffs and percussion EVER. I will love this song until the day I die.☺
This classic 80's song really carried the 70's disco style of Chic just as David Bowie's Let's Dance did and many other New Wave acts in the early 1980s if you really listen to the rythm. And I think that's really cool! Because even though original disco wasn't embraced in the 80's, the truth is a lot of the great 80s music evolved new amazing dance sounds from the original disco styles of the 70s and especially with Chic's style. Nile Rodgers even collaborated with David Bowie in Let's Dance and Duran Duran with Notorious.
Chic and Nile Rogers, it was pure R&B , disco was a corporate term,,, good beat easy to dance to instant classic
I love that sound and recently noticed it myself!
What is New Wave?
O Ren Ishii New Wave is a genre of music that came about in the late 1970s and was the leading music of the 1980s. It’s most essential instrument is the synthesizer which was a new phenomenon at the time.
I agree..Madonna tried to keep it going but did not catch on.Even Donna Summer the queen of disco tried hard to keep disco going in the early 80s.By the way I like disco. It just came to a dead stop around 1980
One of the best songs that music has to offer, the feel, the tone and the emotion all in one!
I love this song and this group. All I get is broken promises. I can relate. I don't listen to people anymore. I trust in God. He keeps his promises. God bless you always.
Your comment is exactly my reasoning and why I like this song too! People will let you down but God never fails!
yea, the Shrewdies can't fool us anymore thank God.

this song so hits home for me. I'm not sure why but I do know it's one of the best song to come out of the 80's.
Yes it does for me too , also Benjamin Orr “Stay the night” ...

I always feel a sense of tranquility when I listen to this group 👍
Great analogy post!!
What a classic hit early MTV days

☆LONG LIVE THE 80'S☆

The Big 80s !
Fall of 1983 I was in the 4th grade. I love 1980s music. It gives me a special kind of feeling.
One year into my 22 yr Army career. Working 16 hr days, and music sustained me on both radio and MTV. 80's were great. 90's were great. 2000's were great. 2010's were great. 2020's? Let's hope.
Man the spring of '83 was the greatest of my life even though I was born in '85.

I never tire of listening to 80's music. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! 80's RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many of us taped songs like this off the radio back in the early 80s? :)
@philaman1972 absolutely right! I think my best mix tape had Depeche Mode, INXS, Adam Ant, When in Rome, The Human League, Pet Shop Boy’s man too many to count...remember the cassette tapes that came out for recording songs that had enough tape to record like, geez man, like 30 plus songs on each side... turn it over and like 30 more song songs on that side... I remember rewinding those thick tape cassettes, it took like 5 minutes to like rewind the thing!!!

They were both (I think), also involved with Tears for Fears before they hit the "big time".

@@kyla3635 You were lucky. In the world I'm from, which still happens, the typically tragic idea of the 80s is cuntdonna, michael jackson, lisa stansfield's entrance piece of shit, tina turner, shitney houston, wham!, prince, hall & oates, that silly best-known cyndi lauper song, starship, heart crap. Can't imagine being beaten to death by an unobvious tune like 'Always Something' by these guys. It weren't allowed to sail hit-wise in the UK, and cos that crap is all anyone cares about adhered to a huge lack of taste, that's all we still have to put up with. The very worst. oh so beautiful song by naked eyes which makes me really wants to cry remembering my best times working in Singapore in my 20's.....best decade 80's!
Forty years ago, British pop band Naked Eyes made "Promises, Promises" to music fans worldwide. Naked Eyes delivered!
