Hello if you are still using this account, just been year joining mma from boxing, and love kicks specially Muay Thai , Haven't fought even in amature in kick boxing or mma , but seeing Weidman and Anderson case, I am scared of throwing kick can you please provide any tip, do I need to condition leg or its technique , I am ok with getting my leg hurt but don't want career ending injury
I was undefeated until lost my fifth match because of low kicks, I really underestimated it and started cripplng in the ring. Now I realize I have both the last and the first mistake. Thank you very much
Knee on the inside of the elbow. Thank you so much, Shane. I always thought the elbow was supposed to touch the top of the knee with that check. Thanks for the clarification. 👊
Lol, I am in the same boat. I need to get use to shifting weight off my lead leg to check faster. Normally I take the kick and counter right after but that doesn't work on everyone.
As a beginner, stance was most important for me. Front foot was more boxing style turned in, which makes a huge distance to travel before your leg is in checking position. Lead leg straight on made this so much easier.
Did 8 years of karate many years ago 1972 to 80 Lots of one on one kumite. Certainly one of my fav attack set ups was a good hard shin kick followed by a fast reverse punch ( shin kick could be as hard as you liked but a no no face punch , but although I always pulled the face punch i knew I could have connected .The shock of the shin kick to the other guy gave me a split sec window to deliver the reverse punch ( or Uraken ) Back fist. Its a great street defence if you cannot escape a confrontation .
I go to one of the best MMA / Muay Thai / jitsu gyms in the world. But I still come to fight tips. I love it there but sometimes the trainers there are so focused on the pros and high-level amateurs. Which I completely understand. I confirmed with my trainers to make sure the things that you teach in the video are legit, and they approved.🥊
Sean Snipes can you please tell what gym that is? Im doing boxing and i compete as well. Huge respect for you and i have a lot of interest in MMA so thats why im asking. You dont have to tell me if you dont want... i understand its kinda personal 😁👍

I used to compete back 1981-2000 in WTF taekwondo and every time I entered a competition with kickboxing or muay Thai I had no idea what to do about leg kicks. I didn't want to admit it then, but now at 50 I'm so happy to say that I'm mature enough to confess - wtf taekwondo had no answers against leg kicks
This really helped me because I keep getting lectured at the gym and it wastes time.. I know they're trying to give me support but I want to get straight on with it
Curious. I usually "crash in" to close the distance or plant my lead leg to absorb the kick & counter vs play outside absorbing/checking kicks as you demoed. Mind you I'm an inside type of fighter (Kyokushin/Boxing). For Thai purposes would you still raise you leg like you described? I've seen alot of people get submarine kicked from raising their leg too much.
Leg kicks are the reason I never got into mma. I've boxed and done bjj so mma was the natural transition. Got my friend to kick me in the leg and check a kick as well and I knew I couldn't handle that.
been a long time ive been watching you guys and my striking and my game has improved a lot im soooooo thankful for you Shane my brother for sure my first fight im gonna shout out you guys , love you brothers keep shining ❤ #fighttipsfamily
I would love to know how you would check a kick if it's Ortho vs southpaw? Do you choose to go across and check with your lead leg? Or do you use your rear leg to check the same side? I've heard both schools of thought on this. I'm interested to hear yours
Both. Just not at the same time... Depends on distance, shallower kick front leg cross block, deeper kick can be front leg or rear leg depending on your balance and positioning.
I'm a beginner, so take it with a grain of salt. What the most advanced guy in my gym do when I throw a southpaw kick, is that they block it with their front kick but crossing it towards my leg to stop it, and it's actually very effective, at least against me. But I don't know if that's also wrong to do. They also step back to avoid the kick completely
#6 Not being tight in the check. I see alot of students, even though they have shin to shin contact , they are not tight in there check so the bottom half of the leg will cave in under them.
I needed this😭😭I tend to reach cause I’m anticipating the kick connecting then quick counter but obviously now they can probably fake it then hit me with something else
Hi shane.. I have a question... Have u read/seen 'Holyland Manga' ? Does the technics, tactics, methods in the manga real? Or can be apply in the real world? Thanks...
fightTIPS omg you actually replied thank you so much!! And yea, those hybrid gloves are awesome! I use them a lot and they’re really cool! Thank you for what you do!
On the 2nd mistake - you can meet the kick part way and "reach" for it... But you should do it by falling forward into the check. Even if you miss you just advanced on your opponent and the other guy's target wasn't where he expected them to be.
Yoo Shane you made a video like a year/ year-and-a-half ago it was the video working on footwork and you had that diamond shaped with the three red lines going down the middle can you give us the measurements for that if possible.🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
You have to make your feet watching down, because if he hits you to the fingers they ll just break, but if the foot is looking down, nothing will happen. :)
Hey Shane, I've been a fan of yours. I got a question if you can help. I've been taking muay thai for 3 months. Every time I throw a high kick, my supporting leg gives out at the hips. Idk if I'm rotating correctly or not working it out right, or maybe I should switch to bjj lol. If you have any advice for me, I would really appreciate it, thanks.
Maybe this can help, try to not lean back or not lean to side too much to kick much highter unless you got good hip control. Remember to tiptoe your support leg abit and also lock your support leg's ankle during tip toe using first 2 balls of your foot.... Your core muscles and leg muscles needs to be trained like correct technique and learn to chamber your leg or leg raise or some other exercises to train the hips and legs muscles. Remember to swing your kicking leg arm... If you want to change kick angle or positions then good hip control and certain chambering needs to be there.... And the contact points of instep or side of inner foot or using lower or upper is important..... Need to transfer the weight fully into the target at the impact moment with the other end of the weight on the support leg.... Be ready to guard up your head and chin down... and after kick, remember to regain balance to reteat 2 steps back or step to the side laterally or do another strike or defence immediately if possible. When your high kick is done, can learn to chamber to block kicks or land in other angles or positions. hope these helps cheers...

Hey Shane, I know this don't have nothin to do with this video but I've been wondering for a long time. What exactly is a heavy bag for? Like whats it supposed to help you with
I prefer dorsiflexion -- flexing the toes up for a reinforced check. Pointing the toes down may provide more coverage, but sometimes your opponents kick will slide under your leg, and sweep out your support leg.
Shift some weight to your back leg, so you're not too heavy on the front! And remember people time low kicks when you jab, or after their punch combos. You'll start to recognize patterns, and a sore leg is the best teacher 😅

I think his mistake was throwing the kick with no hands to set it up. Weidman saw it coming, defended with an awesome cross check, and the rest is history.
I think in that case it was partially broken from the leg check that came before.
It was a knee check, not with the shin. Watch closes,y how it lands. If it landed on the shin it probably wouldn't have snapped
Shane told it before. It was thin bone to hard bone check.
Silva also was under nutritioned if I recall, he also wasn’t conditioning his legs as often, if what I heard was correct
