  • Learn to tie the Mini Glider Fly with Nick Gellerstedt from Musky Fool Fly Fishing Co. This fly is the little brother to the full size glider and an absolute workhorse. From opener to ice up the mini is a constant fish catching machine. Designed to have the same rhythmic “walk the dog” action as its full size counterpart the mini is slightly more erratic and has the ability to be fished at higher speeds. Its compact size and dense profile makes it both small enough and large enough to get the attention from musky of all sizes.
On the Mini Glider it is very important to choose the right bucktail. You do not want it too long! MF Clouser grade bucktail works great. If the bucktail is too long on this fly it will never achieve the desired action. This action is achieved by gradually increasing the length of butt ends with each stack of bucktail as you progress through the fly. This builds a core around the shank and helps facilitate the side to side action. Shank diameter is also very important. I use .045 wire on the mini. The thicker .051 seems to dull the action.
As always have fun with it. Get creative and play around to find what works best for you!

Awesome glider, do you fish it with just the single 4/0 hook or do you add a treble in there where the loop is?
