    Love the “haven’t broken a tooth yet” because whenever I do that people ask why I don’t use clippers. I also do not use clips

    You could sub that barrel swivel out with the flouro swivel out on the market... Just a suggestion

    My plan for this spring is to try fily fishing for pike in my local waters here in Michigan. I'll be starting off with my 9wt St. Croix Avid. Can you provide a list of materials and lengths that you used in the video?

    Hey there Pogo I tried to buy from your kit but there seems to be a problem with the link, thought I should make you aware

  • @dirkvannieuwenhove

    Why not use the perfection loop like we do here? Also add a drop of zap-a-gap,or super glue and that's secure enough for 53"+ pike. Leader we build out of 49 strand 40-50lbs line with a mustad size 2 or 4 fast-attach snaps. No swivels

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  4 года назад +1

      Most fly lines for pike musky here don’t come with a welded loop at the end. If that’s what you mean. Thanks for the feedback!

    • @dirkvannieuwenhove
      @dirkvannieuwenhove 4 года назад

      Pogo Pike I use Vision big momma and big daddy fly lines and these have loops on either end. So indeed we loop leader into the fly line and the trace into the leader, all loop-in-loop so the only hardware is the fast-attach snap 🙂👍

    Dumb question since I'm not a fly fisherman. What's the advantage of zap a gap over regular super glue?

    • @pogopike8340

      More water resistant I believe

      @@danzaremba6500 All good. Depends on the rod as well. Chippewa River Custom one piece 8wt can handle a beefy leader.
      It’s the best pike rod period.

    Your videos are very informative! I didn’t catch what type of knot you use to tie the fly to the bite guard. Is it a non-slip loop? Thanks.

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  4 года назад +1

      Spin & Fly Guy thanks so much. Just a basic clinch knot. Depending what pound test 3 to 5 turns.

    pogo. thanks for this video. im currently setting up a few leader like this. I had a question about how you attach your bite guard to the fly?

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  4 года назад +1

      jeff BERNAEYGE thanks man. 95% of the time I just use a basic clinch knot. Wrap around 3 times or so and tighten down.

    Interesting leader setup that I’m going to try. Question though; I feel like the swivel would cause the leader system to hinge during the casting stroke. Does this not happen or do you have to alter your cast somewhat from a regular leader system to prevent it from hinging?

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  4 года назад +1

      Chris Thompson good question. It does not, with such heavy material and big flies it’s bueno!

    Hey Pogo, do you see any issue running ~3 ft 30lb salt hard mono to a barrel swivel with bite guard with a lock snap on the end?

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  4 года назад

      Thomas Smith the snap to the fly works well. You never bring the bite guard in for the figure 8 anyway. But use heavy bite guard. I use 80lbs

  • @nicknash331

    Love this set up.
    It’s my new “go to” however I do have a question.
    Now that all my flies have 8” of bite guard on them, how do I store them? What do you use for fly box?
    I’m guessing if I have them in there current box the leader will become bent with memory.
    Might be a pain to try and straighten out while fishing.
    Curious to see your set up on storage.
    Thanks!
