Hello Friends! Hope you enjoy the video! It's a reaction to a Growling Sidewinder video that you can find here: ruclips.net/video/ew8rNTlm_Io/видео.html
I thought I recognized that voice. Although I’m certain my comment had nothing to do with this happening, I have been asking in growling sidewinder’s comment section to please do more videos with actual fighter pilots. So I’m happy. Been subscribed to both of your channels.
I love all of your content. What I really want to see is it reversed though. Growling Sidewinder in my opinion from what I can see is top dog. If he loses its in a fight that the plane is simply outmatched. I want to see him fly the panther over and over and over like he does the 16, and 22 etc. and then see what he can do.
Love the video man, thanks for reviewing the fight, had a good laugh at the callsign portion, and I hear you with the follow up options, and denying that to the bandit, something I will be trying to work on in the future as per your advice. Thanks again man and nice to see your channel growing.

If you REALLY want to learn how to do dogfighting then GS vids is not a good reference for you or any beginners unless you didn't really care much and just watch it for fun then that's alright.
I'd say blink or bat. Cuz you know blind as a bat, bats fly, and in some extent they can be stealthy since they are black and fly at night and hide in dark caves so you never really see them but do hear them
I believe in this specific dogfight, you can only use missiles if: A) Opponent is trying to extend B) You already landed a gunshot on the opponent He has other fights that are BVR and others that involve missiles, so I definitely would love to see a Fox-2 fight between the F-16 and F-35
Would have been more interesting if this reaction was knowledgeable of the premise of the fight. The aircraft aren't the same as the real-life ones and the ROE was guns-only.
Which is why 1/2 of these dog fights are so far fetched. They don’t shoot at each other in the merge either (that’s a free shot you would never pass up in combat)
@@reboundrides8132 Definitely, though another rule is to not shoot in the head-on for these “gun”-only rounds or Fox-2 fights. They want to dogfight and see what each aircraft and Pilot can do, rather than just shoot in the head on and get nothing out of it; you don’t learn anything from a head-on gunshot. 7:40 a fighter instructor I knew in the late 70's told me that dogfighting is more like playing Pool, as every shot you take should set you up for the next shot while never giving the opponent a chance to shoot
'Blink' does dogfights in DCS where the rules are that you can't use weapons until you've merged, and can't use missiles until A) the opponent tries to extend or B) you've landed a gun hit. This keeps the dogfights more interesting, instead of going mostly to who has the more advanced missiles and sensors.
Keep in mind the f-35 is a mod in dcs and isn’t a real flight model. It’s capabilities in this sim are pretty abysmal and most likely don’t represent anywhere near what the actual f-35 could achieve.
FYI: Growling Sidewinder and his friendly opponents usually have a gentleman's agreement during BFM not to make head on shots AND to only use guns until the opposing aircraft is struck, after which a follow-on shot with a sidewinder to finish the aircraft after pilot ejection.

"Blink" or Growling Sidewinder has actually fought many fighter pilots! I think that he has bested every single one in a best of three. Notable fights include the French Raffaele pilot and the Canadian fighter, love those vids
I wonder if DCS has accurately modeled the F-35 and that maybe it might be more maneuverable than they’re letting on?🤔 We all know the Raptor is king of the sky at BFM but there’s some things about the F-35 that make me think that it’s much more capable than we’re led to believe in this arena. It can do a falling leaf without thrust vectoring and that’s a massive clue that it is maneuverable and it just has a massive power plant at its heart that’s more powerful than any other jet engine on the planet and that means that it can likely maintain and keep energy much longer than anything else. Those are huge pluses but I’m not an expert and honestly what I’ve learned about BFM is from watching GS channel. It’s interesting to watch even if you don’t play the game
Love it man! Growling Sidewinder is the very reason I'm here, first DCS video I ever saw was him been hooked ever since. Next goal is PC to learn DCS, can't wait. Thanks guys for the awesome videos and knowledge. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I enjoy your commentary very much, especially your emphasize on taking high aspect shots. I would have done that if it was me. Did those all the time back in WWII sims back then.
I'm subscribing. I read that the 35 internal payload was going to be 6 now. Is that right? I saw a 35 in action at an air show. ...holy wow! Is freaking loud and it maneuvered very nice too! Of course they can't show us the real capabilities of it, but I was really impressed! Freaking LOUD! LOVED IT
If you mean the Side Kick upgrade, I believe it only works with the A and C models to carry 6 internal AMRAAMs The B used by the British and US Marines has a smaller internal bay and will probably never get upgraded. Instead, smaller missiles may have to be developed -see Ratheon's Peregrine missile.
In an A2A focused initial mission set, they will often carry 2x AIM-9X BLK II+ on stations 1 & 11 and 4xAIM-120C7/D for a total of 6 AAMs. Brits will do 2x ASRAAM BLK 6, 2x AIM-120, and 2x Meteor. The new Block 6 ASRAAM has significant BVR capability. F-35s also get to choose whether or not someone will merge with them, and given that choice, better to reach out from the shadows and pull targets into NEZ than merge with them.
@@LRRPFco52 Do you know if the AIM-9X Block II+ had some RCS reducing modifications? I’ve heard some whispers that it does but it’s so hard to find information on it, and you seem knowledgeable. I heard from a few people it got some RCS paint and from one that it is shaped a bit different.
"Blink" is good, but I like "Slack" better. GS frequently does gun-only dogfights and has too many high-aspect shots with no follow-on options, he has no "slack." Also, in Fox-2 fights, he frequently wastes his missiles while in the WEZ, again not enough "slack." And when it comes to this video he was "slack"ing when got complacent and lost sight of the F-35 at the start, too much "slack."
You and Growling Sidewinder need to go head to head in Vipers or maybe an F-16 vs. F-15 scenario. He is kind of a DCS Legend, be fun to see him up against a real fighter pilot!
Took out a Viper in an F14B. I gained altitude and then nosed over and fox2 from 5 miles to force him into a Syrian turn, took his tail but kept my altitude around 15k, he reversed to prevent presenting his AB to me but bled too much speed, so he ditched his nose and I tucked in behind him, then he tried to go vertical and I took a high aspect fox2 shot for the splash. Whole thing lasted 41 seconds. Basic lesson really of any combat situation is to jam up their game. Take away their advantage and dominate. As Sun Tzu said, know yourself and your enemy. I would never get into a turning fight with a Viper except with an F22.
It would be great to see how real F35 pilot would fight against growling sidewinder at the DCS. Interesting to know the DCS F35 flight model is realistic at all. F35 kill ratios in the real world (red flag) are very impressive. If F35 would be bad plane I don't think everyone would be replacing their F16's with it. Here in Norway pilots love F35
Had the pleasure of seeing an F16 at an airshow years ago, and it impressed so much. There was F15"s Mirages, Russian Migs etc, but the F16 was the best without a doubt..
It’s pretty cool that GS can invest some time and money and get really good at BFM in a variety of different aircraft. He does his homework and knows how to exploit weaknesses and capitalize on his jet’s strength. As much as I love his mid-fight commentary and how much it ads to his videos, I would just love to see GS in a real F-16 dogfight, trying to talk through a 450 knot/9 G rate fight on the floor. DCS is awesome, but it does a lousy job of conveying just how athletic and draining a sustained high aspect engagement really is.
I'm in no way a real pilot but you touch on my biggest gripe about DCS... Is that there's no way this sim is correctly immulating the real life speed of a fighter jet and combat flight. But like I said Im not a pilot so just my opinion
The F-16 is recommended to have the AMRAAM on the outside wing pylons to prevent flexure-torsion binary flutter. Which is another way of saying prevent wing fatigue, and It is actually considered to be safer to maneuver with aim-120s on the ends. The F-16 N was when they first realized just how fast F-16 wings can wear out from constant high G combat maneuvers and not having a Aim 120 on the wing tips. Now its always recommended to have aim120s or equal weight out on the tips at all times. Another plane is the F-5. It will always have sidewinders on the wing tips for this reason.
Would definitely like to see expansion (from you) with jets on a stick of how to better the BFM fight. Your feedback is amazing because it’s real life. People couldn’t pay for what you have to offer here. Insanely cool!
F-16! The most beautiful jet in the world! And as a swede Gripen takes second place. I love those Growling Sidewinder, Longshot and Grim Reapers clips. Yours off course aswell. Good work!
Well, i have a friend flying the Typhoon that confirmed to me what a RAF pilot stated on a youtube video: if flown correctly, a 200 flight hrs pilot can shoot down a 2000hrs pilot in his F15/16 everytime in less than 60 seconds. Viper is amazing but ther's something better out there.
Typhoon has about a 1.2 T/W ratio, so it's a monster in BFM, and very light, so it can really maintain a tight turn radius while out-rating its opponent as well. So sad to see it neglected in the AESA department though, even with CAPTOR-E being agreed to so long ago.
I like "Blink", but "Casper" is pretty good too. Ok, I've got it: Upvote this comment if you vote for "Blink." Leave a reply if you vote for "Casper." As an aside, the reason why they weren't taking their 9X shots is generally the pre-established rules for the dogfight; while missiles are probably the way to go, they tend not to be as interesting. Most of GS's dogfights have the rules of: No firing before the merge, guns only during the dogfight, missiles are free to finish off a wounded opponent or if the opponent tries to extend away from the fight. Conversely, GS's buddy Longshot does a lot more BVR and scenario-based engagements.
From the Air Force pilots I know, the sucky thing is, if you get a "call-sign" (nickname) you don't like or want, you can PAY (😂) to have a call-sign of your choice. In other services, if you get a nickname that has a negative connotation (let's use "Stinky" as an example), you can EARN your respect back with your fellow Soldiers/Marines, at which point your "Stinky" nickname becomes a badge of honor, because you EARNED the respect of your Squad/Platoon. If you don't earn the respect of your Platoon back,... well, you're going to have a long and painful enlistment, where you'll be known as "Stinky; the Platoon's weakest link". But we would have WAY more respect for someone who took their bad nickname and owned up to their BS, instead of someone who decided to BUY their way out of their nickname.
honestly how growlingssidewinder always finds its targets visually is beyond me...I play DCS from time to time (noob/ish) and that I find one of the hardest things..
for the call sign..I remember the ghost Cat named `BOO` in the Cartoon Funky Phantom in the 70's with his owner `Jonathan "Mudsy" Muddlemore' also a ghost....
Callsign: Blindsight Blind·sight (definition): the ability to respond to visual stimuli without consciously perceiving them. This condition can occur after certain types of brain damage.
Hiw about FOD or Frag for a call sign. In the Navy it stands for Foreign Object Damage from debris. I notice GS usually frags himself by taking close gun shots and flying through the debris field lol.
I love the F-16, it is so agile as you know. F-35s are amazing, but I think they love to use their stealth, so they will engage before their opponent can see them. Thanks for your service!
@@grider421 Late 1970s Block 1, 5, and 10 F-16A Radar capabilities are still classified, and the old APG-66 was rendered obsolete in the 1980s by the APG-68, of which there have been 9 subsequent variants. Those are now outclassed by the SABR AESA being installed in 608 late Block F-16CMs. There are still modes and features of APG-66 that can't be discussed 45 years later. F-35's APG-81 is light years ahead of the APG-68, and even better than the F-22's APG-77 AESA.
Max Afterburner, i know you're a jet pilot but PLEASE check out Krupinski from IL-2. HE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!! Its hard to even think of a close 2nd to him. And I watch many IL-2 and other WW2 Flight sim creators. A breakdown from your perspective would be VERY INTERESTING to hear. I literally almost think he cheats or something with the maneuvers and shots he pulls off sometimes!!
Suggestions for alternate callsigns....Blindspot....Blindside... A-D-D... Glauc (for Glaucoma)...Welder...Magoo....R-C (for Ray Charles)... and Blastshield (SW reference).
Chat gpt suggested “blind spot” and “vanish” as possible call signs. It also suggested “Cheshire” This call sign references the Cheshire Cat from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” who is known for disappearing and leaving only his grin behind.
Love the F-35 and 22, but the F-15 and 16 are the 1,2 punch that set the bar for air dominance. You're in a world of hurt if you have to out maneuver an F-16 or god forbid get from point A to B faster than an F-15.

When you’re dogfighting in reality, any mistakes can be fatal. The nice thing about dcs is that only your ego gets hurt. 😊
Yup 👍.. love these break down videos 🫡
Can’t wait till the next one ☝️
Still hope you do one on the F15 shooting down a satellite story 😊.. that would be an awesome break down.. although it wasn’t a completely successful project in the end, it was quite fascinating to see them push F15 to the limit
Thanks man! I have a competitor to Top gun Maverick breakdown releasing next week!
@@MaxAfterburnerusa very much looking forward to. It sounds interesting.
if you loose visual, remember: if he is not in front of you, above you, or on the sides, he's behind you, if he's below you, he's behind you.
Hope Blink and Longshot take notes here, they’ve got free tutoring from an actual combat pilot.
"Blink" or Growling Sidewinder has actually fought many fighter pilots! I think that he has bested every single one in a best of three. Notable fights include the French Raffaele pilot and the Canadian fighter, love those vids
@@preston8008 GS is a wonderful creator and a awesome DCS pilot, but you’d be silly not to glean any tips from someone like Max AB
genuinely lol'd at "Panther" nickname :D
can you explain it to me please?
I love these reactions. Thanks for the video!
I wonder if DCS has accurately modeled the F-35 and that maybe it might be more maneuverable than they’re letting on?🤔
We all know the Raptor is king of the sky at BFM but there’s some things about the F-35 that make me think that it’s much more capable than we’re led to believe in this arena.
It’s interesting to watch even if you don’t play the game
you are corret. If you look inside the mod, it's just an F-15.
He's now being called blink on every video going forward.
LOVED IT
If you mean the Side Kick upgrade, I believe it only works with the A and C models to carry 6 internal AMRAAMs
The B used by the British and US Marines has a smaller internal bay and will probably never get upgraded. Instead, smaller missiles may have to be developed -see Ratheon's Peregrine missile.
@@Claudius_Nero thank you for the info! Yeah, it didn't really get in to details about the different models.
And we have the Peregrine missile in development, she could be ripping 12 missiles here soon!
Love that your YT channels crossed paths... Big fan of both of you...A colab is well overdue !! 🙂
The typical ROE for his dogfight vids is guns only... until first blood, then fox 2s are ok for the coup de grâce.
You and Growling Sidewinder need to go head to head in Vipers or maybe an F-16 vs. F-15 scenario. He is kind of a DCS Legend, be fun to see him up against a real fighter pilot!
Growling does some videos against a real pilot already, but I agree would be awesome to see some neo vs blink
Enjoy the DCS breakdowns very much
Took out a Viper in an F14B.
Bummer my Callsign is "Deadmeat Jammer"
OK boomer
I'm in no way a real pilot but you touch on my biggest gripe about DCS... Is that there's no way this sim is correctly immulating the real life speed of a fighter jet and combat flight. But like I said Im not a pilot so just my opinion
Dang....you pulled the handle on your "Robin Olds" mustache!
He's a real life F-16 pilot. I'm sure he's aware.
additional weight decreases wear?
F-16N mmm such a great plane.
@@NoNameAtAll2 crazy right
Would definitely like to see expansion (from you) with jets on a stick of how to better the BFM fight. Your feedback is amazing because it’s real life. People couldn’t pay for what you have to offer here. Insanely cool!
Call Sign: Sassy Ace.
Well that's a callsign I can grow old to.
These videos are so cool both growling and having your opinions/advice
Love your perspective. I watch GS all the time, love his Channel as well.
Max Afterburner critiquing Growling Sidewinder!! This was awesome! More of this. But why shave the Robin Olds/airline pilot stache?!
F-16! The most beautiful jet in the world! And as a swede Gripen takes second place. I love those Growling Sidewinder, Longshot and Grim Reapers clips. Yours off course aswell. Good work!
💡 Spartan…that can be a call sign for Growling Sidewinder.
I see you enjoying tea from the Cajun mug... My neighbor flew with him too, enjoy the content. Give GS a good call sign!
Great video! Can't wait to see your next breakdown on Blink!
Finally got rid of that unsat mustache I see🤣
My callsign’s Speedy Rocket..making me think of changing my major to Aerospace engineering
F-16: the guy she told you not to worry about…😂
Well, i have a friend flying the Typhoon that confirmed to me what a RAF pilot stated on a youtube video: if flown correctly, a 200 flight hrs pilot can shoot down a 2000hrs pilot in his F15/16 everytime in less than 60 seconds.
@@LRRPFco52 don't worry, new tranche 4 and 5 incoming with aesa ,new ECM and upgraded poweplant
Just discovered this channel and I am a big fan thus far. Keep up the good work sir.
I like "Blink", but "Casper" is pretty good too.
Ok, I've got it: Upvote this comment if you vote for "Blink." Leave a reply if you vote for "Casper."
As an aside, the reason why they weren't taking their 9X shots is generally the pre-established rules for the dogfight; while missiles are probably the way to go, they tend not to be as interesting.
Call em “Lost shot” or “Horse Eye” 😂👍🏽
Love all your dcs content
Hey thanks!
Hey Max, you make great videos and you explain everything very well.. Great Job bro. Love your channel..
Love your work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Blink would be the most appropriate callsign
“Ray” for the call sign (for “Ray Charles”)
This was an awesome video, subbed
Hot Shot Rebel is a badass callsign thanks
honestly how growlingssidewinder always finds its targets visually is beyond me...I play DCS from time to time (noob/ish) and that I find one of the hardest things..
Resolution and graphics stuff
3:19 those call signs are too positive man hahaha aint no way
I think this is a guns only fight unless your opponent extends away or to finish them off when you get a guns hit. Great video as always.
Thumbs up my man, loving the content from a real fighter pilots perspective
for the call sign..I remember the ghost Cat named `BOO` in the Cartoon Funky Phantom in the 70's with his owner `Jonathan "Mudsy" Muddlemore' also a ghost....
Callsign: Blindsight
Blind·sight (definition): the ability to respond to visual stimuli without consciously perceiving them. This condition can occur after certain types of brain damage.
Houdini is a dope callsign and thematic.
Thanks for your service!
i wish we knew the full capabilities of the f 35, but just like the f22, we won’t know its full capabilities for many years
@@grider421 Late 1970s Block 1, 5, and 10 F-16A Radar capabilities are still classified, and the old APG-66 was rendered obsolete in the 1980s by the APG-68, of which there have been 9 subsequent variants.
LO is their game and they will Kill you BVR way before the merge.
I literally almost think he cheats or something with the maneuvers and shots he pulls off sometimes!!
i really like this type of videos good job at editing too
Fun reaction bro
Hey cheers!
Lol oh no not the callsign Lmaoooooo
Awesome breakdown, really appreciate your expert critique. Keep these fantastic videos coming. God Bless.
Suggestions for alternate callsigns....Blindspot....Blindside... A-D-D... Glauc (for Glaucoma)...Welder...Magoo....R-C (for Ray Charles)... and Blastshield (SW reference).
Callsign: Ray Gun... mix between Ray Charles and Top Gun. Don't @ me
Lmaooo i love it
Chat gpt suggested “blind spot” and “vanish” as possible call signs. It also suggested “Cheshire” This call sign references the Cheshire Cat from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” who is known for disappearing and leaving only his grin behind.
Oh c'mon guys. That callsign's gotta be "Hollywood". "WHERE'D WHO GO?!"
Ground has a 100% kill probability
ive never heard that but its so good
The F-16 is the angry lil ankle biter of the group🤣
I gunned my first AI bandit last night. It was an F5. It kinda flew right in front on me like he was asking for it…
They should do a dogfight challenge, loser gets a callsign
Love the F-35 and 22, but the F-15 and 16 are the 1,2 punch that set the bar for air dominance. You're in a world of hurt if you have to out maneuver an F-16 or god forbid get from point A to B faster than an F-15.
