Sadly hard to buy new these days, with all ports working. Funnily enough, I bought mine second hand from the unit who worked on Hacksaw Ridge a few years back. Was covered in dust when I got it, but all ports working great. A bit of a clean up and it still works a treat!
I almost fell asleep on this video. It’s a compliment though. Thanks to the visuals, music, and calm speaking. Also the original bmpcc is so organic! Good job!
Two years ago when you made this video, you could get an OG pretty cheap, that is no longer the case. They are selling for about the same price as a used 4K.
great vid! - just picked up the 6kpro myself and was curious what you were using for a cage on your model? - wasn't sure if the older 6k cages would fit with the slight differences in the cam body
It is a Camvate universal half cage, but I’ve put in a larger rod! aus.grandado.com/products/camvate-camera-cage-quick-release-half-cage-with-wooden-handle-right-for-dslr-camera-stable-system-photography-accessories2020?variant=38540937101463&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgu2DiOqN7wIVv51LBR2cpAtGEAQYAiABEgIky_D_BwE#images-4
I've also noticed this on the 6k vs the 4k while using both on set. The 6k's highlight roll off is just that little bit nicer and for me, well worth it.
I had to convert the Gen 1 colour space of the OG to Gen 4 and then applied a custom LUT I made. I call it my natural colour LUT, I’m a big fan of having realistic colours, especially if I’m shooting nature. There was a lot of tweaking between each clip to ensure they all had a similar colour look.
I have the OG Pocket and BMPCC 4k and I still really love the OG. When you shoot RAW, it's almost the same quality of the 4k and 6k without the larger resolution. Depending of what is your kind of shoot, the OG still the best for a better film look adding to that you can add some old cheap cinelens. At the price it worths right now, it doesn't worth to sell it. I prefer to keep it as a B-cam or rigs who needs lightweight camera. The real trade will be between the 4k and 6k pro!
Definitely a great cam, though will need an external battery plate to get the most out of it. If you do choose to buy one, ensure the HDMI port is working as that is known to have been the weakest spot on the mode
The biggest difference to my eye is the sharpness gains when going from OG to pro. Some slight depth of field differences as well but that was less noticeable. The OG still holds up incredibly well. Which lenses did you use for each?
I used a Sigma 18-35 for each. But only the OG had a Speedbooster on it. I used a Metabones EF adaptor for the 4K but moved the camera back and forth to try and match the framing of the 6K wider field of view 😀 I wasn’t testing crop factors etc in this video, just seeing how close the footage can be to one another
Wonder what is the best gimble compatible with the OG BMPCC. I myself bought a used having sold mine a few years back. love teh form factor and it feels like a gem in your hands.
That’s the funny thing. From an image-standpoint only, it is just on par, if not ahead in some cases when it comes to the filmic look. However, all three look phenomenal.
you should have thrown the BMCC 2.5 to the mix mate! awesome video! what do you think of the BMCC 2.5 compared to the pocket OG and the rest of the pockets?
I thought it would be good to have just the pocket cameras! I did a video all about the BMCC - found here! ruclips.net/video/wutBLsw3M18/видео.html Still love the BMCC, though I have the MFT Mount version which does take some getting used to and requires some additional accessories to really get it working. Absolutely killer image though!
@@GimbleProductions Great video too. Image Quality wise, what do you prefer the pocket og or the bmcc 2.5k or the rest of the pockets based on your tests? And yeah does the bmcc 2.5k color science differs a lot from the color science of the newer pocket cameras even with the gen 5 color science?
The BMCC is not as good trust me, having owned 5 of them and then comparing the picture quality to the og bmpcc, the og blew it out of the water in the shadows and highlights. Which is why I replaced all 5 for the small og.
Awesome Comparison 🎥😏 Do you or anyone here know if the camera cages like the Tilta TA-T01-A-G or the smallrig cage of the black magic pocket cinema camera 6k fits the new black magic pocket cinema camera 6k pro? Thank you
Nice comparison. I feel as though the greatest jump has been the amount you can fit in the frame, and the degree to which you can punch in when editing. The OG still looks great even today. I own the 4K myself, and am constantly surprised at what I can get out of it. Really looking forward to the Gen 5 colour science update.
@@GimbleProductions I've toyed with it in Resolve 17 already, by changing the image to 5 and then grading from there. It is so flat! Thanks for all these videos of the new camera. I love Blackmagic gear.
It’s not just you. The overwhelming majority continue to agree to this day that the original BMPCC is still the most filmic and cinematic looking camera they’ve created. It has something to do with the old sensors or something like that.
I will check my SD card and let you know in a few hours - as I understand it, most modern high speed cards do not work so it’s good to make sure which ones work and what don’t before buying
It’s funny, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t - however, taking into account this footage is enlarged to fit a 4K timeline may account for some softness
The og pocket is still unmatched for its form factor after all this years. I owe one and will never sell it.
SAME HERE but my first one i had the hdmi port broke ...but still got another one
Same bruv

The OG is definitely still looks good but when compared to the 4k and 6k its age starts to show. Great video!
Great comparison. Nice to see how they stack up over the years.
I almost fell asleep on this video. It’s a compliment though. Thanks to the visuals, music, and calm speaking. Also the original bmpcc is so organic! Good job!
Hahaha ASMR is where the views are at!
@@GimbleProductions lol your hilarious. Subscribing
Awesome video. I still use and love my OG BMPCC
Overall I still prefer the dreamlike look from The Original, but the 6K's colors really pop.
BMPCC OG kick ass! Amazing cinema look!
Its pretty slick - love it!

@@GimbleProductions Awesome thank you!
They all looks great but very nice highlights roll off on the 6k PRO !
Play with "Glow" in Davinci Resolve - with it you can realise highlights roll off with every camera ;)
I've also noticed this on the 6k vs the 4k while using both on set. The 6k's highlight roll off is just that little bit nicer and for me, well worth it.
Great video! Thanks for making it and showing us the great shootout! :)
Great! Thanks for the video! what Lut are you using to match the bmpcc og with the 4k/6k?

@@GimbleProductions Really cool to hear, natural is my aim as well. Any chance on making that LUT available / doing a tutorial?

Just the video I was looking for thanks!
No worries! Just a simple little test, letting the footage speak for itself!
There is a quality in that the BMPCC that I really like. I’m considering getting one now lol.

Really cool comparison. The OG Pocket Fairchild sensor has such a great look still.
The Fairchild Sensor is equipped with Daul Gain technology, just like the Arri sensor. ;)

Works great on DJI ronin S :)
Skin tones as test would have been nice.
Everybody always wants to say, "the OG BMPCC still holds up well.." But to me, it looks like it's in the lead !!!
That’s the funny thing. From an image-standpoint only, it is just on par, if not ahead in some cases when it comes to the filmic look.

Gen 5 has actually been pretty fantastic on the 6K pro. The highlight retention, the flatness of the image, it’s great!

Love it!
Shot in Raw, Log with post work or Video? Cheers!
RAW ☺️ Graded in post
@@GimbleProductions got it, thanks. good match.
what aspect ratio is this exported at?
Great video!! now I know time to keep my bmpcc OG and get a sigma 18-35 instead of investing in a new bmpcc lol.
I HAVE THE OG...I JUST LOVE IT 1080 GOOD FOR ME
I've got a pocket 4k and now 6k pro but you know what.... The og looks amazing... I think the greens look more filmic that the 4k and 6k
Call me crazy, but in some footage i see "More cinematic" Original BM

It is on their website.
Kingston canvas select plus 256gb work fine with raw
still rigging up my OG hhaha!
honestly the OG is waaay too noisy and mushy/soft
It’s funny, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t - however, taking into account this footage is enlarged to fit a 4K timeline may account for some softness
