I can totally agree with you on this subject. As someone who has struggled staying consistent on the platform because of being an "industry person" I can totally attest as a production company co-owner with 15+ employees. Big recognizable brands like our past clients microsoft xbox, samsung, lamborghini, toyota, Sony, Hyundai the list goes on are all paying mid to high 5 fig & 6 figure production budgets yet doing MORE with more nimble crews. The barrier to entry has slimmed down significantly, cinematography "rules" are getting overlooked, and clients simply just want the project to get done. It seems like many of the at home & never shot a single production gear youtubers are phasing out finally which is great (so over embargo videos) because many are what you mentioned earlier "just youtube filmmakers" (sorry if anyones triggered & nothing wrong with that if its your lane). In the past 3 years there is a new generation of people doing incredible work with scrappier crews still making brands happy. I'll leave this here for food for thought if you go the social route, what is the shelf life on this platform and how can you invest and set yourself up for retirement/the future saying in the youtube lane. RUclips is almost 20 years old, dv was an option before the dslr revolution, the dslr revolution started in 1999… there’s nothing new under the sun as far as independent filmmaking… go out and make films, not content… content isn’t filmmaking, but the only thing that stops people from being a filmmaker is… making films. Phones have been better then the canon xl1 which numerous films were made in the 90’s that got theatrical release.
