I learned that the closer the light is to the subject, the softer the light is. That‘s why the sun creates hard shadows and cinema projectors are sharper from a distance.
What is "softer" with distance is fall-off. Is less abrupt. But the bigger the source in correlation to the subject the softer it is, so yes he was generally wrong there :D.
@@zeeshandhanani I think you are speaking from the perspective of the "mirrors". I put mirrors in quotes because the 1, 2, 3 and 4 refract the light (scatters the light instead of focusing the light like a leko does). So in the case of the Liteflow 1, 2, 3 and 4, it gets softer (less focused light) as the distance increases.
8:44 - Are you sure about that? By moving a light source closer to the subject, the shadow falloff becomes softer, not the other way around. For the mirror, the light gets softer as the distance increases because the mirrors are refracting the light, so as the distance increases, the light refracts (unfocused) even more, thus making the light look softer.
Thank you for the correction. I did make a mistake. What makes a light source soft is that light is hitting the subject from different angles. The more angles, the softer the light.
I would love to see more videos about Cine reflectors, there is not many videos on RUclips and most of them just introducing the product but don’t use it in a realistic setup
I couldn't imagine not having the whole K1 kit personally. We've used almost every single reflector. That being said, it is quite a large kit. It takes up a lot of space. I would say we've used the #1-3 in the 20x20 and 10x10 the most.
@@zeeshandhanani thanks, I think I'll shelf it out for the whole kit but hold out for a while. I've been experimenting With some homemade crls and I've gotten great results but I'm ready to head get a more substantial and real product

Yeah that part was just backwards. The bigger the light, the softer. The further back, the smaller it is.

Inverse square Law.
@@scottbenjamin8251 Exaclty. Impacts the fall-off.

I wonder what will work better with these mirrors, a lamp with a fresnel lens or a lamp with spotlight?
Damn these look so good. That overheard shot is killer

Will do! I'll do some walkthroughs on set on the next shoot we are using them.
@@zeeshandhanani perfect, can’t wait for it 🙏🏻
Would you recommend the whole kit with various sizes? Or did you find yourself using a specific size most often? Because I agree they are expensive!!

I recently picked up my K1 kit at B&H for half off and see the value. Each diffusion level has a unique value add (i.e., output) per each size.
A light further back will do the opposite of making it softer.
Yes, you are correct! I made a mistake in that section of the video. Thank you for watching.
It's cheaper than the LightBridge reflectors which this is very much ripping off.
