As someone who is 15, I can say that we the people after those who served to protect our country and future shall continue the work laid out by activities of the past. No one shall be judged for who they are, what they believe in, what they like or even what they look like. In the south, no couple weather they are gay men or women, male, female or transgender shall have to cower in fear of beginning killed by those who wish to stop what they believe is a sin. We the people shall forever be united to stand up with our allies to oppose those whom wish to define us, Citizens of this great nation.
Just a thought, When Abraham Lincoln gave this speech, this is exactly what he would have hoped for an African American president of the United states of America. This is why I love America so much, it has always had great leaders. People fought for their rights and made America the country it is now. A true global superpower.
he emancipated the slaves ... AND he saved the UNION from becoming five or even six or possibly TEN Nations .. AND he earned his own education by hard work AND he said let us be governed by our kinder and gentler angels (not by mobs) AND he had a troubled marriage AND he grieved a dead son (just like many others do) AND he was patient with big shots and generous with little people AND hw anted us to be like that too! (and we are not)
Saumil Pradhan Lincoln actually didn't believe in racial equality, as seen by the Lincoln- Douglas debates in 1858 where he said something along the lines of not seeing blacks as "fit for public office". Look it up if you don't believe me. Of course he should still be respected as a visionary for his time. Racism was the accepted belief back then, and the majority of Northerns weren't fighting for black rights
Lincoln had the biggest challenge of all presidents ever. Yes, more so than Roosevelt or Truman. Lincoln did not face an external enemy. He faced his own people torn up by ideologies. And you can only appreciate that if you knew what it means to point a gun at your own brother. Obama may not have achieved a lot, but USA, to an outsider like myself, looked more united and coherent during Obama's presidency than it looks today after him.
“Washington was a typical American. Napoleon was a typical Frenchman, but Lincoln was a humanitarian as broad as the world. He was bigger than his country-bigger than all the Presidents together. “We are still too near to his greatness,” Tolstoy concluded, “but after a few centuries more our posterity will find him considerably bigger than we do. His genius is still too strong and too powerful for the common understanding, just as the sun is too hot when its light beams directly on us." Leo Tolstoy's thoughts on Lincoln. He will always be, without doubt, the greatest American, President, and Statesman the world has ever seen. At least in the humble opinion of this Canadian.

So many people admire America from a distance not knowing what makes it what it is, I believe this speech encapsulates (though not totally) the main idea of what the founding fathers were trying to achieve, understanding these ideals and putting them into practice is not for the cynical nor for the faint of heart!
Obama did not go to Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary remembrance. That is all you need to know about him. Lincoln arrived and made history. A man of the hour, a man of his times, a great American.
+Vilkas Yeah, Obama didn't go to the anniversary. Neither did the president before him.... and the president before him.... and the president before him... do you want me to continue?
Donald Tramp 2016 YES YES YES continue right to the 100th that LBJ gave the speech at and the 50th that Woodrow Wilson gave the speech at. You are embarrassing yourself these are MILESTONES. Another fine example of the public school system......nice try lib.
Vilkas LBJ visited Gettysburg, but not when he was in office as president. Wilson visited on July 3; 134 days before the anniversary. In my previous comment, I was directly speaking about presidents (while in office at the time) visited Gettysburg on Nov 19 because the person was talking about the "Anniversary Remembrance.". Out of the recent 28 presidents since Lincoln, 27 didn't achieve this. Only William H. Taft did.
Donald Tramp 2016 Wilson did so on that date in concert with the reunion of the soldiers, he did not decide the date but this was when the huge gathering for the milestone was to be celebrated. Kennedy of course made his own private visit. Obama's swearing in with the Lincoln bible was as it turned out to be all show. Lincoln was one to unite a country in the worst of times whereas Obama has done nothing but divide. Right out of the gate he moved to socialize healthcare and set the precedence for his entire career. Zero Republican votes, alienating half of the population and he has never looked back. I look at all presidents warts and all. I make no excuses for any of them. Obama is a terrible leader. I get no joy saying that. I look at this Iran catastrophe and I can't from any angle see the good in this. Obama is a globalist figure not an American president. His actions indicate that he does not believe in the history of this country. He is not my president. He is a disgrace compared with the likes of Washington, Adams, Jackson, Garfield, Theodore Roosevelt and Lincoln. He has none of their qualities or leadership abilities and has as Theodore Roosevelt once said " the backbone of a chocolate éclair".
Vilkas "Obama is a terrible leader. I get no joy saying that. I look at this Iran catastrophe and I can't from any angle see the good in this." I'm not Obama's biggest fan - far far from it. I definitely wouldn't say he was a great leader, but I wouldn't say he was the worst president. In relation to the Iran deal, the deal isn’t perfect. No negotiation ever is. Iranian leaders have been on a superhighway, for the last 10 years, to create a nuclear weapon or a nuclear weapons program, with no speed limit. They've gone from 106 centrifuges to 19,0000 centrifuges in the last decade. This agreement will bring it down to 5,0000 - all of which will be under the support vision of the IAEA. The same is for the number of uranium going from 1200KG to 300KG. Iran's money was frozen all over the world, and America wouldn't let them get *their* money back until they agreed to under their nuclear program. It's not Israel vs Iran, or America vs Iran, or Muslim vs Jew, etc. It is those who want war vs. those who want peace. Khamenei has more in common with the Republicans and Netanyahu than he does with the Iranian people.
Mr. Obama, seeing you deliver the Gettysburg Address fills me with pride and gratitude. Your interpretation honors the enduring message of unity and sacrifice that defined that pivotal moment in our nation's history. Your delivery is a testament to the power of our shared ideals to inspire across generations. Thank you for carrying forward the spirit of that solemn occasion.
Omg no Lincoln was a liberal (although he was Republican) towards non Whites while Churchill was an outright conservative bigoted racist who hated anyone who wasn't white. Plz don't compare the two 🙏
Not the standard Bliss version - close but no cigar. "This we may, in all propriety do"- loses the rhythm and poetry of "It is all together fitting and proper that we should do this". Obama also misses out the '"Under God"" bit in wishing the the nation "a new birth of freedom". I'm no theist, but leaving it out again spoils the flow. Obama is an erudite, accomplished man. It's a shame he's not also a poet. The Address, to my mind is still one of the greatest political speeches of all time but in Obama's hands it is merely "very good"- and I'm a Brit!
Fair comment, except that we don't know what Lincoln actually said - the five reporters present all reported slightly different things. I do agree, though, that "under God" does not appear in either the Hay or Nikolay drafts.
@@andrepaige9669 We don't know what the original version was - contemporary versions would have been the Nicholay or Hay drafts. The Everett, Benton and Bliss versions came after the fact. There were five reporters present when Lincoln spoke his "few suitable words" but they all differ in some aspects. Obviously, it was Edward Everett who gave the actual Gettysburg Address and he spoke for two hours! Still, the Bliss version is taken as standard as it was the only version that Lincoln signed. It is what he would have said if he had had a little time to think about it - and I still think it's wonderful!
My grandparents were both buhdist and they say one nation under god when they pledge allegiance to America upon arrival. They both understood that if it's important than just say it out of respect for the Americans.I know alot of us dont intentionally go and offend other religions but how do we respect their trully if we can't respect the ones here?
The greatest speech written by the greatest president who freed the slaves, being recited by the first African American president in US history. The poetic reality here...
I cannot bear to see this man much less listen to him recite the speech of a man who was President during one of the worst times in America's history.....
From my point of view America has lost these values. Greed and corruption and power have taken control. What the people need is a leader that is strong and willing to lead them into the future a symbol of peace and pride a standard bearer for the young and old to look at and follow. Someone who will stand up and say enough is enough. That someone as to have the ball's to lead the fight and listen to those around them and be able to tell the church that thier time is over. And lock up these things that pray on children for their own pleasure. Time for the truth to come out and peace to take control. Archangel Michael
Where Lincoln says The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, Lincoln was so wrong there. It's one of the greatest speeches in American History.
There have hardly been any American Presidents since Lincoln to even approach 50% of what he accomplished, and the man he was. Only close candidate would be FDR, for his over 12 consecutive years as President, and leadership through the Great Depression and World War 2. However, FDR led a much different country than the one Lincoln did nearly 70 years earlier. And much easier to unite the American people against common foe, than to lead the country through a Civil War.
@@Aorda he left out under God because he was asked to read the John G. Clara Winters .... There's not several "versions" exactly, but when Lincoln was composing his speech he made several drafts, which explains the slight difference in wording. What a great man Abraham Lincoln was!
@@curtisallred7250 First of all, Obama is a christian. Second of all, he left out under God because he was asked to read the John G. Nicolay copy, the first draft Lincoln wrote, which did not include the words "under God" among many other things, those were added later. We do not know which version he actually read, but they are all similar. He was asked to read the Nicolay copy.
It saddened me when I heard him recite this great speech. Picked it up the second he said it. Why did he leave out " under God ?" How would his family feel if 100 yrs from now someone re-wrote his speech to suit their agenda? I liked President Obama, I still do actually, I just thought it was sad he did what he did to those great words.
So interesting Factoid for you: No "official" record exists of what Lincoln said that day at Gettysburg. The version most often quoted, and used in the Lincoln Monument, is the "Bliss Copy". This was a copy Lincoln rewrote, since his original copy was all scribbled on, and messy. Obama is reciting the "Nicolay Copy", named for Lincoln's Secretary. You can tell, mainly, as Obama says "This we may, in all propriety do." instead of the more well known "It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this" So while I agree I prefer the Bliss Copy with its "That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom", Obama did not take it upon himself to edit the Gettysburg Address.
I would rather that, and have the man acknowledge the greatness of President Lincoln, than to see all the comments online espousing Trump as a greater President than Lincoln. That's just a bit too far, if you ask me.
How would Lincoln look at the American democracy today? Is it really a government of the people, for the people, by its people? As an outsider who admires great American men like Lincoln, John Muir and Martin Luther King, I feel bad for the American state today, with all its inequality and injustice, within and without.
I’ve pondered on this as well, from my understanding he would’ve been disappointed in both parties. Due to the fact that a majority of representatives in each political party only care for their own agenda passed on by others around them. None of them have the integrity and spine to disagree with their own party in fear of being rejected.
I don't like that the actual speech was not precisely quoted in this video. Every single word put down by Lincoln should remain untouched by those who choose to repeat this monumental speech in our country's history. Once you begin to substitute or abridge a great work you reduce it's impact and historical significance. I know it seems a minor petty detail but words, and how they are used have historical importance.
There are five known copies of the speech in Lincoln's handwriting, each with a slightly different text, and named for the people who first received them: Nicolay, Hay, Everett, Bancroft and Bliss. Two copies apparently were written before delivering the speech, one of which probably was the reading copy. The remaining ones were produced months later for soldier benefit events. Despite widely-circulated stories to the contrary, the president did not dash off a copy aboard a train to Gettysburg. Lincoln carefully prepared his major speeches in advance; his steady, even script in every manuscript is consistent with a firm writing surface, not the notoriously bumpy Civil War-era trains. Additional versions of the speech appeared in newspapers of the era, feeding modern-day confusion about the authoritative text. Lincoln speech text is in the public domain; the organization, remaining text, and photo on this page are copyright 2018 Abraham Lincoln Online. All rights reserved.
I have studies this for speech and debate. the actual reason is that, in the bible, the age of human life is said as "three score and ten" or 70 years. 87 is more than 70. When Lincoln said "four score and seven", he meant that most people who were alive when the nation was founded were now dead, and that America could no longer rely on the founding father for guidance. That is why he phrased it as "four score and seven", to contrast the then widely-known "three score and ten" Hope that makes sense.
Walter Scott quite simple really, under Obama the radical left(aka social justice warriors) gained ligimiticy from the President and had their actions justified. They made it so simply criticizing Obama made you racist, or triggering a feminist made you a sexist. Trump appealed to people for that reason as he wouldn’t let the radical left get away with their childish behavior.
The larger problem is when the left and right don't talk with each other, that's how you make real change! Otherwise all will happen over and over again is you'll end up going around in circles and never getting anywhere, and using insults either side doesn't work either!
Because he read from the Nicolay copy of the speech - written as the first draft by Lincoln himself, and owned by the library of congress - which does not contain "under God" in the first place. The copy owned by the government omits it; an employee of the government omitted it.
Lincoln omitted "under God" in his early drafts which is what Obama was asked to read. It is not known if Lincoln included "under God" in the delivered address but it is likely his did.
It's on a freaking teleprompter. He didn't miss it. Regardless of whether history offends people or not we shouldn't censor historical documents to cater to people's precious feelings. The Bill of Rights does not include the right to not be offended.
seriously, well the bill of rights does include freedom of religion so he's respecting that one not people's "precious feelings", plus if you actually did some research he was reading a different version of the address
he left out under God because he was asked to read the John G. Nicolay copy, the first draft Lincoln wrote, which did not include the words "under God" among many other things, those were added later. We do not know which version he actually read, but they are all similar. He was asked to read the Nicolay copy

November 19, 1865? Wow I guess the ghost of Lincoln does exist.
I miss Obama. 💙
Where Lincoln says The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, Lincoln was so wrong there. It's one of the greatest speeches in American History.
I've always wished that more politicians had his humility.
true
The man whose voice plays in this video is not 1/10th the man who wrote the words being said.
I wish I could read as beautiful as obama.
Me too.
Ah how nice it was to have an articulate and literate president.
Music spoils this
Why did Obama take out under god in this speech makes me wonder this is not the full speech
It is a little modified. No idea why...
@@Aorda he left out under God because he was asked to read the John G. Nicolay copy, the first draft Lincoln wrote, which did not include the words "under God" among many other things, those were added later. We do not know which version he actually read, but they are all similar. He was asked to read the Nicolay copy
Great leader
probably the worst president of all reading the speech of the greatest president how ironic
This should not be the top results that comes up when I type in Lincoln performs the Gettysburg Address
I didn’t always like Obama but this is beautiful.
Pretty damned good
This sort of incredible eloquence...to what we have now. Unbelievable.
are there several versions of this because i learned it a different way
Clara Winters .... There's not several "versions" exactly, but when Lincoln was composing his speech he made several drafts, which explains the slight difference in wording. What a great man Abraham Lincoln was!
His spoken and signed draft states that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom
His side can’t take credit
Why doesn't he pronounce the words "...under God..."?
That's a good question, why did he avoid the most significant words?
Maybe because not everyone can say some things correctly?
Thanks to your voice guidance. I wish I'll be good to read these line as you did.
Obama left out the under God part.
President Obama was asked to read President Lincoln's original draft, in which "Under God" was not included
He skipped words!
Yup! Left out under God because he's an atheist.
I Remember Four score and seven years ago, our Forefathers brought forth ...
Not FATHERS
Long live Lincoln.
20 x 4 = 80 + 7 = 87

Wrong bruh,
@@Ryan-wc8wm you are 4 years late
@@halo8323 i am 4 years still right
It saddened me when I heard him recite this great speech. Picked it up the second he said it. Why did he leave out " under God ?"
How would his family feel if 100 yrs from now someone re-wrote his speech to suit their agenda? I liked President Obama, I still do actually, I just thought it was sad he did what he did to those great words.
So interesting Factoid for you:
No "official" record exists of what Lincoln said that day at Gettysburg.
The version most often quoted, and used in the Lincoln Monument, is the "Bliss Copy". This was a copy Lincoln rewrote, since his original copy was all scribbled on, and messy.
Obama is reciting the "Nicolay Copy", named for Lincoln's Secretary. You can tell, mainly, as Obama says "This we may, in all propriety do." instead of the more well known "It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this"
So while I agree I prefer the Bliss Copy with its "That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom", Obama did not take it upon himself to edit the Gettysburg Address.
I won't say much but this, this does sound inspirational you have to admit
Dare we pray that there will _never_ be a Donald Trump reading of Lincoln's greatest speech.
I know it seems a minor petty detail but words, and how they are used have historical importance.
why is there background music. like seriously
he didn't say rather after living!

Always wonder why ab didn't start the sentence by saying 87 year,s ago!
It sounds fancier.
That is why he phrased it as "four score and seven", to contrast the then widely-known "three score and ten"
Hope that makes sense.
Lincoln to Trump. What happened to this great, amazing, friendly, decent country?
Walter Scott quite simple really, under Obama the radical left(aka social justice warriors) gained ligimiticy from the President and had their actions justified. They made it so simply criticizing Obama made you racist, or triggering a feminist made you a sexist. Trump appealed to people for that reason as he wouldn’t let the radical left get away with their childish behavior.
The larger problem is when the left and right don't talk with each other, that's how you make real change!
Otherwise all will happen over and over again is you'll end up going around in circles and never getting anywhere, and using insults either side doesn't work either!
I'd like to hear Trump do this for giggles and shots
I'd kill to have a voice like Obama
thats just his super deep awsome voice
He omitted UNDER GOD. This is Lincoln's speech, not Obama's. He does not have license to alter the text.
What is this guy Anti-christian >:( WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD HE OMITT THAT??
Because he read from the Nicolay copy of the speech - written as the first draft by Lincoln himself, and owned by the library of congress - which does not contain "under God" in the first place. The copy owned by the government omits it; an employee of the government omitted it.
Lincoln omitted "under God" in his early drafts which is what Obama was asked to read. It is not known if Lincoln included "under God" in the delivered address but it is likely his did.
The only reason Obama has to be in a church is to listen to Jeremiah Wright
obama will be a forgotten person because there's nothing of value he did for this country.
Noticed he left out "under God".
Well not everybody is Christain and I think he's respecting other religions or non - religions, or he just missed it
It's on a freaking teleprompter.
