Abraham Lincoln once said "And in the end, its not the years in your life that count. Its the life in your years." Truely one of the greatest Americans to ever grace this nation.

Tragic that within a century of it's Declaration of Independence from Great Britain (GB) in 1776, the US was at war with itself in 1868. Can't imagine what Native America made of European settlers importing their characteristic contentiousness.
...and yet the speech itself pushes focus away from the speech rhetoric, and towards the history of those dead...and what we should do about it in the unfinished work still before us.
I’ve always considered The Gettysburg Address to be one of the greatest pieces of writing in the history of our nation, but recently learning that one of my 4x great grandfathers fought at Gettysburg… it speaks so much more emotionally to me now.
Its about equality of dignity not equality of results. We are created equal in God's sight in this regard. And it is the human struggle, not just the American struggle.
One of the best sculpted speeches I've ever had the honour to read or hear. I expect it was as eloquently orated as it as it was word smithed. The world needs more striding Collosses like him. US citizen's should concentrate on the common denominator of the American centeredness than their rightness or leftness. They're the envy of the world. Respect him!
And yet. he scribbled it on the back of an envelope and looking back said it was embarrassing because of it's brevity. Historians attribute this to the grave-like silence that fell over the crowd after he sat down. All the other speeches were vigorously applauded. This one resulted in reverent contemplation.
Great speech, with carefully crafted words, by a great man who endured a lot of adversities in private and public life ---- but never gave up. Life of Abraham Lincon was not easy, but it was quite human and heroic indeed. Life of a real AMERICAN.
President A. Lincoln is a noble and humble leader with integrity. I love this speech and it gives me the chills every time I listen to it. I know we can all relate to it no matter what walks of life we're from. I quote, "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not die in vain". I think about my ancestors and how they dedicated their lives to pave the way for my family, my posterity and me. I have so much respect.

My hero since I learned to read and write. In junior school I used to break down every time while reciting, "Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!/ But I, with mournful tread,/ Walk the deck my Captain lies,/ Fallen cold and dead." That was close to four decades ago. President Lincoln needs to speak, and we need to listen, one more time. Not just the United States of America, but all humanity.
The best delivery of this speech is made outside, as it was pronounced by Lincoln himself, speaking with a loud and projecting voice, reaching as far as he could, to a very large audience. The rhythm of the piece was created with that foreseen circumstance in mind. The words have to be individually launched with force, with long pauses between them, and with the effort of the speaker marked, as fighting against a blowing wind. This brings back the text to the battlefield, conveying its size and the noise and movement that took place there, still echoing from the entrails of the earth. A speaker must be winded at the end, to convey the effort needed, and a sense of what the last measure of devotion might entail to those who were there. No one sheltered in a room can deliver this piece as it should be heard.
The other speaker (Edward Everett) spoke for over 2 hours at Gettysburg. He told Lincoln that he wished he could have said in two hours what Lincoln said in 2 minutes.
@@djt8937 And Everett wasn't the "opposition" He was the keynote speaker. Lincoln was only ever intended to offer brief "Dedicatory Remarks." There was no "opposition" speaker.
@@Jakethegoodman After the Gettysburg dedication ceremony, Edward Everett, the "featured" speaker, wrote to Lincoln: " "I wish that I could flatter myself that I had come as near to the central idea of the occasion in two hours as you did in two minutes." The comments above relate to Gettysburg. You must be confusing something about the debates.
Lincoln forsaw that America's Great Civil War and Battles will be forgotten. I live in Canada and the People here couldnt care less for your sacrifice America. I love America. Amen.
Hopefully we are about to get our country back on track. And hopefully our friends in Canada can kick comrade Trudeau out of office before he drives the last nail in the coffin in Canada. 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 👍 ☺
Growing up in the South, I wonder how much different history would have been if Lincoln had lived. The Republicans at that time wanted to punish the south, Lincoln was for reconciliation and peace. In the 90's we went to Gettysburg. We could feel the ghosts there at the picket fence bordering the wheat field. We were in awe of the bravery on both sides. None of us would have marched into the fire at the wheat field. Does bravery like that still exist? Sadly almost 160 years we as a county are still wrestling with the consequences of that war. Blame does not heal, understanding is the best salve for that open wound.
A Southerner shot the US's best president over slavery. Abraham Lincoln wrote a letter to a Southern mother who lost lost all 3 of her sons in the Civil War. He expressed his remorse for their loss. She tore up his letter and threw it in the fire. All the understanding that needs to happen is that half of America is ignorant and hateful. If Americans can shoot and kill Lincoln, if they can tell lies about him, they can do the exact same about Donald Trump and Obama.
😪in reverence and sincere gratitude May you all rest in peace. Thank you for you ultimate sacrifice. Our nation survives today because of the hallowed blood that you shed for our freedom. Thank you! .😐🙏
Lincoln was self taught and grew up very poor he used to work th Mississippi flat boats when he was a teenager and most of the time walked around barefoot before he decided to educate himself and pull himself out of serious poverty
I didn’t get educated in the USA,but we studied US history and we have to memorize the Gettysburg address as part of our oral/verbal test. President Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents before president Reagan.
People have fought and died for ideas of what America ought to be. in this address I found him asking the American people to have the courage to be Americans. "it is our responsibility" he says. lest we forget and have to learn the lesson again.
That's a great thing because 99% of Democrats in America today probably vomit while listening to such a speech. They'd rather hear one from Karl Marx or Saul Alinsky, pure human trash who both have permanent homes in Hell. May their eternity be absolutely unbearable as can be.

Its about equality of dignity not equality of results. We are created equal in God's sight in this regard. And it is the human struggle, not just the American struggle.

"The world will little note , nor long remember what we say here."
Au contraire, Mr. President. Au contraire.
As soon as I started reading the comment, the video started saying it with me
Oui monsieur. President Lincoln’s words are, indeed, forever immortal.
What magnificent mind to have put those words down and to be honored to this day and forward we pray!
THE BEST SPEECH OF A.TRULY.GREAT.PRESIDENT
Words of honor, dignity and humanity by one of the greatest statesmen in history.
The second greatest speech given was MLK ‘s “ I have a dream “ on the steps of the Lincoln memorial in 1963 .
no no thats the 3rd
@@radioblitz1494 Then in your opinion , what was the second ?
@@adorabledeplorable5105 JFK gave a great speech about free speech, a free press and the freedom to oppose government. The speech Eisenhower gave about Science, Technology and the Military Industrial Complex was pretty good too. The general theme is the same and there is no competition anyway - all deserve 'a place at the table'.
I will see you there 😇🧹🚮
President John F Kennedy's "Moon Speech," is my favorite Speech, as Kennedy shares a "vision" for the United States for the next seventy-five years.
as a Sri Lankan sinhala Buddhist citizen i really really appreciate and always honour and love former united states president his excellency Abraham Lincoln and his dedicated service to the united states of America and specially his tirelessly service to eradicate slavery and slave trade from the entire usa territory etc we love and respect him forever may he rest in peace
I knew about this noble man when i was in 5th standard. I read about his struggle against poverty in his childhood. The incident when he brought book from his friend for one night and he fell asleep in midnight .when he woke up next morning the book was totally destroyed by rain water dripping from his roof since he was living in mud house. When he told about this to his friend ,he makes two deals .one either u return my book as it was or work on my Field for a week. Since A Lincoln was so poor that he choose second deal and worked day and night on his friend,s farm . Moreover he used to write on his wall with coal since he had no pen and paper . It made me saddened everytime. He was shot killed eventually. A great president this earth planet ever have
He was indeed a true man
We so often take such things for granted but after 66 years in this world and long exposed to the conflicts this nation has survived I can't help but read this with tears streaming down my face.
I'm not from the USA, but I had to learn that speech in my English class, it's still one of my favorites
Long live Lincoln's legacy.
This is the first time I've heard this entire speech...👏👏👏

YES it is , too bad they are no longer teaching this in schools, be it in person or virtually . I’m so glad that my kids are grown , and got a good old fashioned education
“The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.” I’m not trying to let you down Abe. I do my best

this speech changed America
You know how many people define eras for America? Such as pre Vietnam War America and post Vietnam War America? Pre 911 America and Post 911 America? Well we should always remember Pre Lincoln America and Post Lincoln America
Beautifully said. Thank you.
The greatest inspiration ever, Abraham Lincoln, belongs to the ages!
Hi, how are you feeling today?
the funny thing was that he only did his speech in under 90 seconds, meanwhile the opposition did their speech for 2 hours
You're talking about the Lincoln-Douglas Senate Election Debate. This was at Gettysburg.
@@djt8937 why yes I’m a speaker

I finished his speech. Most famous! Rest in peace mr Lincoln! Love you!
Hi Betsy, How are you doing?
😪in reverence and sincere gratitude
May you all rest in peace.
Thank you for you ultimate sacrifice.
Our nation survives today because of the hallowed blood that you shed for our freedom.
Thank you! .😐🙏
The federal government is the monster it is today because of the murder of hundreds of thousands on both sides by that man.

Lincoln was self taught and grew up very poor he used to work th Mississippi flat boats when he was a teenager and most of the time walked around barefoot before he decided to educate himself and pull himself out of serious poverty
Yes. The Greatest Speech in American History.
"I always walk slowly ; but I never walk backward !"
That's what Abraham Lincoln had said !
I didn’t get educated in the USA,but we studied US history and we have to memorize the Gettysburg address as part of our oral/verbal test. President Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents before president Reagan.
We are lucky we had Abe during this time🙏🏾
People have fought and died for ideas of what America ought to be. in this address I found him asking the American people to have the courage to be Americans.
"it is our responsibility" he says. lest we forget and have to learn the lesson again.
This is absolutely one of American history's greatest speeches.
I am not even american and i feel patriotic listening to this
That's a great thing because 99% of Democrats in America today probably vomit while listening to such a speech. They'd rather hear one from Karl Marx or Saul Alinsky, pure human trash who both have permanent homes in Hell. May their eternity be absolutely unbearable as can be.
I have heard many times about Abraham Lincoln's gettysburg speech. But today for the first time I opened this video and heard..Three are many treasures hidden in this short time speech.. I think this great and dignified speech is the main weapon for all nations.
