Regardless of what people say and think about Barack Obama, that man can orate with some of the best. Few men have been able to captivate attention in the 21st century like this man. This was an excellent collection of orators, through and through.
"A man touched down on the Moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination" Yes we can! What a beautifully inspiring speech!
@James Saunders You definitely have a point, but not all of them are correct, most of them had nothing to do with Obama. Russia started the Ukraine war. Canada is still a free and peaceful country, Russia is not. The vaccines worked, that's all i care about. Racism will never die. Smart phones have done more good than harm. After writing this, none of these were Obamas fault, a few are from SCOTUS, China and Russia, and the main culprit misinformation and QAnon. Politics aside, none of this was Obamas fault lol
@@OBrien-hi9zq The sixties saw assassinations, civil rights struggles, riots, a 'depraved' sexual revolution, an explosion of drug use, and a war that killed ten times the number of Americans than all the wars since. The seventies continued to fuel our decline with Watergate, the Iranian hostage crisis, the rise of terrorism, Japan's rise to economic dominance, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. We were impotent, a paper tiger so I heard, a shadow of our former selves. Except we weren't. The predictions were wrong then, and I think they might be just as wrong now. For the sake of my grandchildren at least, I sure hope that they are.
I think preaching in a church and talking to the people he spoke to helped him with that. He wasn’t a politician speaking blindly to a crowd, he was speaking to people. Just like when he preached, he was just talking to people who had thoughts, needs, and dreams. Even as a teenager who never lived through the civil rights movement, mostly likes to stay out of politics, and disagrees with Kings entire religion, I can’t help but respect the man. A man who fought for what his people needed and didn’t hurt others in the process is one who deserves respect and recognition throughout the ages.
On this day, 60 years ago, during the March on Washington, MLK delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech to about 250,000 people. I’m not black, but there’s a power and boldness in his speeches that is so unmatched! No matter what race or ethnicity you are, MLK is someone who everyone should look up to and respect: a hero and a warrior!
MLK represents the true strength of the United States. No matter how much injustice there may be in this country, he represents all those people, young and old, black and white, man and woman, who hold fast to an unyielding hope that the future could be better. He represents all those people who, in the face of being told that they can't, respond with the timeless American creed: "yes we can"
When I was 11, my dad took me to see Dr King in Detroit, where he gave a prelude to his I have a dream speech. I feel like I spent so much of the 60’s mourning murdered heroes.
I know he made that mountaintop sermon a few times. But I could almost swear you can see it on his face that he knew his days were numbered.. Threats of violence mounting like never before, threatening letters from the CIA...all in response to King’s message of radical change, anti-war message, and desire to bring Socialism to fruition.
Not really. He b e a t his wife and used Rosa Parks as a PR stunt when 7 months earlier an African American did the exact same thing but MLK didn’t back it since her skin was too dark to appeal to the moderates
@joeydrummer7929 it's one of the few things he was good at, he had max charisma and that's why people voted for him, his presidency however is a different story
MLK really did deliver a prophetic speech. It really felt like he saw the promised land over the mountaintop, it felt like he saw the end of his road, and he saw the road that he paved for his people.
The way he quickly stepped away from the podium before he even finished his sentence, as if he was struggling to contain his emotions, it really did seem like he 100% believed what he was saying. If I had my tinfoil hat on, I'd say he had gotten warnings or a tip-off that he was going to be targeted for an assassination soon - and he continued giving his speeches with the knowledge that each one may be his last.
He didn’t pave the way for “his” people. The many brave men and women who listened to the hopeful ramblings of a rhetorically talented man from Atlanta and the people whom dared oppose the status quo paved the way for equal right for all man, not only in a backwater nation built up by 50 smaller nations, but for the entire earth. I stand with my late grandmother, a white Protestant swedish woman. She adored Michael, and so do I. She adored the brave souls who fought back against oppression at stonewall in 69, and so do I. She adored the first non white old man to be the leader of one of the mightiest nations in the world, and so do I
So true! On fire! MLK could have held the mic outstretched in front of him and let it drop like they do nowadays to signal triumph and the roof would have literally imploded. Done a mic drop!
It's amazing looking back 60+ years later and seeing how accurate President Eisenhower's final address was is insane. The man warned us of exactly what unfolded.
RFK’s speech was incredible. MLK’s death spurred riots all around the country, but RFK managed to unify everyone by sharing his own personal experiences. And because of his speech, everyone went home that night in peace
I’ve always appreciated RFK’s speech about MLK’s death. He was speaking as a white man to a mostly black crowd about a civil rights leader’s murder. He managed to speak calmly and to inspire.
It’s even greater because when most major cities experienced often violent protests in the streets, Indy has one of the few that had none; I thank that man for sparing our state of such madness and the goodness of his words
Lincoln: "A house divided among itself cannot stand" Kennedy: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" MLK: "I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" FDR: "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" 2020 with Trump and Joe Biden Trump: “"I'm the most successful person ever to run for the presidency, by far. Nobody's ever been more successful than me" Biden: "I have a sister who is the love of my life"

Kasper Kleine Tank hindsight is always 20/20. I think that during Ike’s presidency the war made more sense. Not that it was justified, but I don’t think that it was as unjustified as it was by the time LBJ was president
He gave his life for the freedom of others. God said there's no greater love. He gave everyone the opportunity to see the power of love. ...... CORINTHIANS 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
whats even more insane about RFKs speech about MLKs death was that it was nearly 100% improvised. he only had time to write down some major points he wanted to mention on the drive over, and didnt have any speech writers help him.
Because he loved MLK. Remember who the first person JKF called when Rev. King was arrested. JFK and MLK where killed for their ideas and love of man kind and it might not mean alot to many but one was a protestant and one a catholic and back then and even today in someplace that is a big thing yet they worked together. Man, when Reagan takes the time to address the children after the Challenger disaster, it’s tough not to get teary-eyed. “I know it might be difficult to understand, but sometimes painful things happen,” is such a heartfelt explanation, and the whole event must have been a real wake-up call, so to speak, to all the kids who thought their role models were invincible. Only last week did I forward a clip of his speech to a friend while we were having a debate about the present situation in Ukraine and Russia. I’ve for many years admired that man and his warning to the USA. I’ve for many years felt heartbroken that his warning went over the heads of most who heard it. My feelings are the same for two speeches made by JFK one of which was slightly similar to IKEs but warns against infiltration by unelected people. The second reminding us that we all breath the same air and we all inhabit the same earth and therefore we must focus on our similarities not our differences.
I did disagree with Obama at times, but he unlike our current president, acted like a leader. A good leader in my eyes is someone who listens, and respects their fellow American. Obama never insulted his opposition, rather he listened, challenged, and debated intelligently.
Mr. Cub Fan 415 Pakistan protected him, they knew all along where he was for years. They only share intel they want, Trump has the right idea of not supporting them any further as they aren’t to be trusted. As far as presidents go, Trump may have controversial opinions or ideas but he is doing exactly what he was elected to do. As a president you should get things done, not just appear to be doing things and being liked by the elite.
The far right has changed the rules. It's kind of funny because there is no left in the USA, apart from Sanders. Even so, north-americans are eager to choose a madman to rule ... or screw it up. As a nation that thrives a lot on the wealth of other nations, there may be a psychological explanation for the taste of the worst choices, in a scenario far less socially and economically divided, compared to other nations.
Obama does not belong in the same sentence as the other two. He made some good speeches when campaigning for the presidency. But when he came to office, he immediately turned his back on American values like liberty and justice for all.

I find it funny that JFK gets so much credit for this speech and Space Race in general, but his contributions to the Space Race were the smallest of any president His predecessor, created NASA. His first successor ramped up spending on NASA to all time highs. His second successor oversaw all moon landings. His successes when it comes to Space? Giving a speech

Dr. King is one of those speakers who can effortlessly bring you to tears, and just never disappoints.

The way he quickly stepped away from the podium before he even finished his sentence, as if he was struggling to contain his emotions, it really did seem like he 100% believed what he was saying. Hate him or love him, Obama's charisma and ability to make great speeches is unquestionable
Yeah, I see why he was elected twice, for 8 years he made the majority of my childhood a special one. From 1-9 years old.
Good point. I liked the Obama phone. Beginning with slack jawed, drooling Clinton, excluding W Bush, all our presidential speeches are stupid and we wonder had much universities have declined.
How much universities since 1965 declined. United States looks like Pottersville in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: gambling joints, bars, pawn shops, tattoo parlors, strip clubs....

Reverend Doctor Martin L.K almost made me tear up with his last speech. He knew what was going on, but was brave enough to keep proceeding with his mission on earth, leaving the masses with optimism, hope and courage... You didn't do all this in vain mister KING... REVOLUTION is on it's way!
He didn't want a revolution. He just wanted people to treat each other as equals. And, as Mr. King so eloquently put it in all of his speeches, he wanted us to get along, not as either black or white, but as CHILDREN OF GOD.
An enlightened man ahead of his time a great man.👏👏👏👏
One of the great what ifs I think about a lot is what happens to Kings legacy if he’s not assassinated and lives into the 1990s or 2000s
He would have been wrapped up in all sorts of controversies, opposing Reagan, opposing mass incarceration, opposing Iraq among other things, there is no way a King who lives to a ripe old age becomes the secular saint he is now but what does his legacy become?

Al Gore is certainly not my favorite politician of all time, but man, his concession speech was remarkable by today's standards. He intentionally, conscientiously refused to make the Supreme Court decision a political rallying point even though he had a perfect opportunity to do so. The peaceful transfer of power and the institutional integrity of the Supreme Court mattered more to him than his own election. That takes humility.
Bs! He intentionally dragged the country through a constitutional crisis because he refused to concede an election he clearly lost (& im not a W fan). That’s not humility.
He is a pesky swindling salesman couldn’t sell the whole global warming after the earth fixing to freeze so now it’s back to selling the hot bag of air called ( climate change )!
Its still a very contentious decision that is debated to this day, but he put his ego and views aside for the sake of the country.

He was a excellent orator. Not a doubt about that. He was not, however, a good man by any stretch of the imagination. Not at all. He watched a woman get sexually assaulted and laughed about it. Listening to Robert Kennedy talk about the assassination of his brother and MLK, you can feel what he is feeling. All 3 have something in common... They were all assassinated within the same decade. The eulogy Ted Kennedy gave Bobby is extremely poignant.
The way Reagan addressed the children directly about the Challenger disaster was reminiscent of Mr. Rogers. Very honest and gentle.

We do have a large black population unlike all other western countries. Only France is close and those are mostly recent migrants. Black people are a foundational part of the USA. Unlike any other western nation. It's still great though.
Goddam, I got emotional from almost every speech here. What an amazing gift life is, just to be able to experience all of the events in the world, good or bad. Many of my friends are gone now from addiction, and I can’t help but look at every single day I experience and say “I wish they were here to see it, they missed so much.” Even when times are bad, at least we got to be there
