Y'all and HH are two of my favorite younger families to follow and learn from no matter how old I am (could be your parent!) Down to earth, no drama, just natural living and working.... sowing and building. Really see the changes that are making it more and more of your own like you did on the first property...so encouraging!
Hope y'all are watching their podcast along with Al Lumnah, on Fridays as well. It is a great time with 3 like minded people sharing their needs and dreams and what they have been up to during the week.
Would you be able to give us the full name of HH? I'd love to find some more good quality channels to watch. Thanks.
Hollar Homestead
Jason, you are doing a great job repairing the barn roof. All things will come in time. Rejuvenating this property and transforming it into your dream farm will take time. You are Amazing‼️🥰👏
Thanks 👍
Funny. One common theme among Homesteaders doing projects is "That took longer than I thought it would"
never fails
Lots of stuff in life takes longer than thought!!😅😅😅😂😂😂😊
That's life. Homestead or no! Lol.
Getting it all done. 1 project here, 1 project there adds up
You will soon be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor! You have improved your property so much with hard work and tenacity. You all should be so proud!
Jason, I just want to say that you and your family (including the in-laws), have become one of my favorite youtube channels. You are definitely in my Top 3. I can not choose which is number 1. Today, you had me feeling like a mother hen with you on that roof and all the potential for accidents. Please be safe. You're still young. But, you aren't getting any younger. Weird, crazy and never imagined injuries came after the age of 50 for me. Thinking I could do what I use to do and take chances my mind would try and talk me out of. Don't let that happen to you. Aren't you about 45? I'm 57. Start practicing being careful NOW. LOL There was a moment in this video where I gasped! First time. Please be careful!!! Love y'all.
I hear you on that. For me, more like 60's, but weirdest incidents ever and I ended up in the hospital! Jason, Lorraine, and Penelope are a great, great family. All that rusty metal was making me cringe. One slip, eek!💞
Look into GACO silicone coating. After trying to seal my metal roofs for thirty years without success I'm going into my fourth year without a leak and no sign of deterioration. Nothing stick to it, debris blows or washes off. My roofs are more than 50 years old. Comes in colors. Said to last 50 years. Not the cheapest product but it does work. I even covered some areas that were rusted to the point of small nail size holes, no leaks or separating. Easy to install. Your roof would be a piece of cake. Just powerwash it, fill larger gaps with silicon filler and roll it or brush it on.
Never saw a roof that you could just tear with your bare hands!!
Enjoy your podcast with Al and Ben
We used the GACO silicone sealer on our metal porch roof.. pricey stuff.. thick, and a challenge to apply BUT MAN... Not one leak in years. If applied correctly it lasts an insane amount of time.
You definitely do NOT have a junkyard, Jason - you have a boneyard. That's where good stuff that is not needed right now goes to wait until it's needed again. We all have boneyards. They take work and care to keep the good stuff good until you need to put it back into use.
Take care and God Bless.
thanks
one day at a time brother 🙏🙏❤❤ you did a fine job replacing parts of the roof
I absolutely love that your family together gets things done.
This is how you set a good example for future generations of Homesteaders!
thank you for taking us along. Each fix is progress.💕💕🌻🌻
Don't forget to put some caulk or something between old tin and new, so the wind doesn't catch it in a storm.
No far, you're tanned❗ Not yet here in SE MICHIGAN.
I'm so thankful you got off the roof, as thin as it is. I know you were walking on the wood. I prayed.
Great to see you preparing your gardens. The chicken's were so HAPPY to be in the garden area. Nice to see a family worked ng together.🌻🌻🌻🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🌹🥀
yes coating keep eyes open sales in winter....look at mobile home roof coating ,thicker and will take care of seams/holes
We love watching your videos. We love your work ethic. You plan your work and work you plan. Very admirable. It's amazing to see all that your family has accomplished in a short amount of time at new homestead. Blessings to you and yours
Plant some wildflowers for the bees
When seeding the spot where the pigs are it would be great to seed a mix of flowers. It is always good to attract pollinators and a patch of flowers will look great!
Hi.....Jason thanks you for showing your video homestead I really enjoy watching your video bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍👌👌👌
Sometimes it takes two days to do one job. But then a winning streak will come in. 😊
Wow if you can tear it i would be freaked out to be walking on that roof
Jason! You’re hard-work & the family’s is paying off small bites. God Bless
Jason sending you and your family love and best wishes from Glasgow Scotland 🏴
Also another thing to ask for ( I do lol) are the cover sheets of roofing. When the roofing is shipped to the hardware store they have an extra sheet... Usually perfectly fine but may have a scratch in the paint colour. It still works great. They usually sell them a lot cheaper.
You are a hard worker to take things off your list 👍🏽
I think you have accomplished so much in the year or so you have been there. That barn roof should be fine for a few yrs for sure.
Your water catchments are working out great
Thanks 👍
I watch and like all your videos....Canada
much appreciated
In the distant past, when my buddies and I were all obsessed with the newest computer hardware, (and before the craze for tricked out lighted cases) I would buy all the components at the high end of the sweet spot of the supply and demand curve. But I would buy the cheapest case I could. I referred to such cases as the "hand cutter special" at Frys. Its a totally different realm of work and effort but that roof is giving "hand cutter special" flashbacks.
Great job replacing the metal roofing, I was so nervous watching you walk on the roof.
Hoping that Spring will be Jason Invention Time, lol. You always come up with such cool ideas to make things easier and better. Nice view from the roof of that barn.
I love being inside a building with a metal roof when it is raining, it is such a calming sound!
You are doing great. You have come so far and are making wonderful improvements in the short time you have been there. You were like a mountain goat on that tin roof! I love following your family.
Good fix Jason. I'm surprised they still sell the same roof metal pattern. I like the idea of coating over it....probably last a lot longer too. Thanks for sharing this fix. Y'all have a Blessed day.
thank you so much for taking the time and filming your work. I really enjoy you and your jobs.
This is my first time watching, and I enjoyed seeing someone just getting it done without a lot of yakking.
Easy gutters for someone who haunts construction sites, 4 to 6" white plastic pipe. Just cut 2 slits it down the center, and you have free gutters that are easily replaced at a later date when you redo the roof.
I applaud your resourcefulness! Always better to use what we have rather than just tossing it out and buying new stuff... SOW encouraging to see the whole family working together 💝
Wow, that old barn is very high and long. Quite a job to repair the roof. Glad to see you have garden seeds started. Been a weird winter.
👋😊💞
Fantastic garden building & barn roof restoration! Your family is progressing well. You’ve done so much to bring the land back. The water systems are working well, too. Thanks & blessings 🤗🇨🇦
Love the job done. Since you are going to put up gutters I would definitely put in a water catchment system too.
Another great video as always, Jason. That roof from the barn looks like it needs to be replaced completely. At least if you replace it, that's one last headache you have in the future. That tin looks like some really cheap roofing.
Jason you are excellent in all you do. It is great to see you taking care of your home. I know it takes lots of money for everything, luckily you are very handy and able to do things. If I was you, I replace that roof a few layers at the time. It is more feasible money wise and physically by the time you realize it it's all done. good luck blessings to you and your family. Laura M from Rockaway Park NY
Always eager to watch your adventures on the homestead
Man if that tin is riping that easily, please don't stand on it and if you do, use a safety harness. A friend of mine fell off his barn and shattered his leg. Tin roofs can be really slick, and you could fall through. Please be safe.
GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS
GOD BLESS YOU ALL 🙏
Everything looks great your fixing up your farm the right way very organized
Dang Jason, you even filmed it. Great job!
Wow Jason the roof is like tearing cardboard 😮
Planning any grass plant clover 🍀 it'll be great for your cows 🐮and you'll get, for the future, planning will eat 🤔 we enjoy your. all the good work 🥰 you all do. We have learned so much from them
Thank you 👍
I think you did a great job repairing the roof. Not everything has to be magazine pretty. Henry roof repair can take care of nail leaks. I was happy to see you on the ground.
You and your family are very hard workers.
Oh yeah the roof looks a lot better. And I bet the seeds will grow good. God bless.
Fun watching as your confidence grows in what you're doing, how you just knock that stuff out. Same with the fencing....
I am Nacho Momma, but I was a little nervous watching you walk on that paper thin roof.
Same here 😮
Top of the pops Jason. Another good job done. 👏
Coating , we use on our tin on our movable chicken coops.
Is 5gallon buckets aluminum roof coating , the kind used on mobile home trailers. It has worked great for our movable coops & chicken barn roofs.
❤
nice! thanks
Love it when people redo and use that they have instead of just trashing something and buying new.
My Dad always used silicone to fill little holes in old sheet metal. Just a tip to anyone reusing some with previous screw holes or just some wear and tear. Got to do what you got to do!
Wish I had half the carpenter skills you have Jason ❤
Slowly getting that barn into shape, its going to be such a useful space for all you have planned. Gutters will really help with the flooding, do you plan to collect any of the water as you have done elsewhere?
In case nobody has told you today, you are worth your weight in gold. So be kind to yourself and take time to de-stress.
Don’t allow the struggles to steal your joy! 🙏❤️
Jason, you should scatter seeds in the pig area BEFORE you move them, theyll help step them into the soil.
hey Jason, just a quick safety tip for you Mate..When walking on a roof, only walk where your nails or screws are as that is where your batons are. Doing a great job. Regards from Australia..love your content
Great job repairing that roof!
I also held my breath when you were on the roof. I caught myself gasping and telling you to be careful 🙏♥️. Glad you got the roof repaired somewhat for now and no accidents 🙏🙏 keep up your great work and soon it will be planting time 👍 blessings to you and yours. 🙏🙏♥️♥️👍👍
The IBC cages in your non junk plie make great houses for young chickens net half cover half put roof on and floor then use a tractor to shift the houses when move chickens that's what I've done as frame already there quick and easy job done and recycling
Thanks for the tip!
Good fix Jason. Do what you can. That roof it catch alot ofvwater. Save some and redirect the rest..
Love your project list going into spring
You may use some old seeds, see what grows. Radishes, carrots, whatever. They will help improve the soil and eventually the pigs will eat it up.
Lorraine, what's for dinner? Love your kitchen segments😊
You be so careful on that ladder Jason, I am glad to know how to install gutters and sister board rafters tho. Thanks!!
Love how you have invisible watches on both wrists
Wow that’s like alfoil.
My paw painted his barn roof with silver rustoleum and it extended the life of the roof! Awesome work you & family are doing!
Thank you for sharing!
Jason, a few cans of flex seal will do wonders, easy to apply, and it works
We have a 30x180' old hen house from the 1960's that used to have 5000 laying hens in it. The roof is not fun to go up on to repair but it is doable. The metal roofing is a lot heavier than yours, though looks like the same type of nails here as yours. Winds here have taken a few panels off over the years but no damage yet. Keep up the good work. :)
Coating will help. We have a metal roof on our barn that was built in 1905, it still works. You did a great job on the patch.
Everything takes longer than you think. Thing is, its time well invested 🍻
I hope you can get the silicone coating for wholesale like we do. Home depot type prices are 5x more. Here with our sandy soil I watched an escaped pig root up, to more than 18 inches, an area much large than that pen in less than 20 minutes or so. Just amazingly destructive.
Famous words of a farmer "well it's not as easy as I thought it would be"
Nice job, doing the best u can👍👍
I would have replaed the whole sheet of metal. $8,000 is a lot of money but a few sheets as necessary over the years will do the job eventually. And any job takes longer than you expect. Always double your expectations.
Excellent filming!
Big ass chickens!
Your place is looking great
You make everything you do so interesting, I miss the days your not on👍
I think you can put some kind of coating on that roof and it will last a long time. Like Cool Seal !
Also, think about getting a big water tank you could plumb all the water coming from your gutters of that big roof into it !
Blessings!
You might want to paint that roof blue. IYKYK 🔥
Last year I started giving my birds cilantro and parsley, just a bunch or two and I was really surprised at the increase of eggs.
Thanks!
Jason, perhaps paint the whole in tar (pitch) that will water prof it and last for some time, good luck with it
I love how honest you are. You are down to earth, and your channel feels as if im right there with you on your farm. I hope my channel DKM Farms will give my viewers the same feeling as your channel gives off.
OMG you scare me walking on that roof!!I want to see you in June in Iowa!!!!❤
Love to watch the progress
Just replace a section at a time.
put your screws in the ridges not the flat area
When walking on metal roof try and walk on the nail heads, they usually the wood under them.
Gutters will be great for water catchment for the farm
if you use a block like a piece of 1x4 or 2x4 to lever the flatbar against you will be able to pull the nails out much easier, without damaging the roofing. also if you use seal a flex or hydrostop to coat that roof with you could make it last almost indefinitely, and it will look really nice too. you can use any color you want for the top coat but I would use the green rust primer for the first coat. they also have a fabric that you can lay down and coat to fix small leaks or flash transitions. I have done a bunch of 1800's historic homes with original standing seam roofs this way with excellent results, and its less labor than replacing all the roofing. I prefer the hydrostop over the seal o flex but either will work. Good luck with your property it looks beautiful.
Keep up the good work 👍
Every homestead has a “treasure” pile. 😂 I got couple treasure piles.
Good repair job!
Good work man!👍
Thanks! 👍
