Hooray that your High Tunnel survived. 👍 🙏
plastic gutters are fine, you just need to anchor down 3 to 4 feet due to being top heavy
I love ALL Sow the Land videos!
Jason, I would consider installing Solar powered floods, with motion sensors, on a post near your high-tunnel.
Glad you guys and the animals are all safe and sound. Don't sweat the little stuff.....you guys will have that water issue behind ya in no time. The pigs are lookin' fantastic!
The "...bigger boat!" reference was funny. Very funny! With Aloha...
😢shame Jason guess you're going to have to anchor it somehow 😅
Sorry to see the damage. Aways happy to see a new upload!
Im surprised the water tower was the structure to go - not the high tunnel.
Thank goodness, none of the animals were harmed in the winds! Great innovative planning; thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
Jason & Lorraine, my mother had a parakeet that had a bent beek, she would take an Emory board & file gently to even it out so he could eat...
a lil more:
She also clipped a wing, so he couldn't fly far, she literally put him on her shoulder & drove to the Senn's 5&10 store in the Sunniland area of So Miami (near the Serpinterum/now gone)... put him on buggy handle bar & he loved going back & forth!
So sad Jason ...but in the end it will work out to your advantage..and we learn from our trials and tribulations....Blessings❤️
Aww what a bummer. Keep at it guys, before you know it you'll have running water to your spickets!
So sorry for your rain collecting systen. My wife said to bury or concrete something in thr ground and hook the bottom of the water collecter to them. Good luck and we love your channel.
Thank you so much for sharing your farming experiences!
Thank God there was no additional tremendous damage. I know it’s frustrating…how are all the animals doing? I love your upbeat attitude! May God continue to bless you and your family.
With nothing but love 🤍(and a bit of 20/20 hindsight teasing):
A guy-wire, guy-line, guy-rope, down guy, or stay, also called simply a guy, is a tensioned cable designed to add stability to a freestanding structure. 😜
Good day to all, peace.
Hang in there buddy....we get a laugh now and then. Love your videos and thank you for making them. Much love to ya.
Those piggies are growing by the minute!!
😢😢😢 these winds are crazy here
Cement poles in ground. Add synder blocks on the top
The winds have been so strong the last few weeks sorry that it happened 😞
GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS
BIG HUG FROM CHICAGO IL 🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️
I'm lad the animals and other structures and your house stood strong in the wind. Cant wait for the hydrant video.
The breeze has been very strong these days
GOD BLESS YOU ALL 🙏
Oh no !
Oh my goodness. We have had them down here in Florida also. I'm sorry to hear this.
Prayers and Blessings upon you and your family ❤. I’ve been watching your content for a couple of years and really enjoy it! You and your family are so talented and are hard working! 😊
It looked like it faired pretty good! The water tower that is!
If you put the pump at the water tank before the hose, you will increase your flow.
As a rule of thumb, always put your pump close as possible to the water source and meet all pipes as big as possible and as short as possible, plus have as few 90deg bends as possible.
I was surprised by the same reaction as last time you showed her drive, I just got really happy. Farm kids.
Lots of work but you always work it out. ❤️😁🌹
I have two hens that were hatched in an incubator that have crooked beaks, they are about a year old and they are doing fine! I make sure they have layer mash, I don't know how they do on grass! 10 years of brooder hatching and never had that happen!
Sorry about your water tower...it won't be long before you have it fixed...better that than the high tunnel. I love your water system, being able to pump from the barrel save strain on the back. Thanks for sharing. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Olivia’s hair is beautiful! ❤
So sorry
You guys are such an amazing hard working family. Much respect! To you and yours.
I built a Suscovich tractor for meat birds this past summer and added metal roof panels to keep the fall weather out. I came out one morning to find that high winds rolled it over into the pig field during a storm. Chickens were wet and wary, but no worse for the wear!
Good thing your putting in those hydrants 👍👍👍👍👍
Bummer!
I don't know if this will be helpful or not... but there is a Homesteader out there named Heath at Red Poppy Ranch, and his first career was as a plumber. He set up his own water system including hydrants in various locations around the property. Of course he used the frost-free hydrants... but he did something I haven't seen anyone else do... and terminated the hydrants inside buckets. I can't remember exactly how he did that... turned the buckets upside down or ... IDK. Anyway, you may want to check out his channel (really a family channel like yours) and take advantage of that idea. I just watched Farmcraft 101 and he's been having problems with those hydrants... but what Heath did was cheap, smart, and effective in that it solved the problem that frequently arises. I'm loving your uploads - and so I thank you for sharing your journey with us.
We have a layer with a top bent beak that's 2 years old now. She's doing great.
Jason , You got to
embrace
everything with metal poles to the ground, just like the way you did your fencing, don't put a second level especially water containers.belongon the flat surface ground 😮 just like the one you did the first one the large container. We will be 👀 watching to see what your next decision will be 🤔 keep up the good work 👍we enjoy watching your videos 🤩
Oh no 😨
Sorry about the weather damage. Praying it works out quickly
Jason I have a chicken with a crooked beak that is 5 years old and is the boss of the flock. She eats first and gets first spot in the coop. I thought of culling her at first bit I'm really glad we didn't. We named her Beaks and we truly do love that chicken
Had the same happen with our sheep shelter. It is made with 2 cattle panels,1x4s, AND welded wire. It flew almost across the yard in a 30/40 mph gust. We now have to use t posts to anchor at all times. Glad no one or no animal was hurt. Stay strong guys!!
Hey, at least the family yourself and the high tunnel and the livestock are all good.
We live and learn.........
Wow, & we had no wind. The kind of stuff that makes homesteading not boring lol. The very end of your vid reminded me of SoCal campouts as a kid 😢😊
You did anchor wow. Use black pvc cut in half, for gutter next time.
Look like a sail.
The structure remained sound. 😮 that's good
I'm so surprised the water blew over, wow!
Hi..... Jason and Loraine nice to see you both are doing great good job beautiful keep it up bye
Wild weather in your space, Good you got the big tank for water, Good luck
Had a hen I adopted she was on her own and I was worried about her fitting in with the flock she ended up top choock just by slowly into the group til they didn’t notice then she staged a coo 😊
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 sorry you had some wind damage to your water tower and your turkey tractor. Thankfully no injuries. May The Lord Jesus Christ bless you and your family !!!
If u had a hose running from rainwater tank to high tunnel u could run a soaker hose on some of beds even have a barrel filling up at tunnel raised up
Love watching your videos
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Gearoid
Nice, lighting at the very end.
I THANK GOD YOU ARE WELL
YOUR FENCE IS UP. WATER CONTAINER IS GOOD. THE WOOD NEEDS THE REPAIR.
YOUR HIGH TUNNEL LOOKS BIGGER EACH TIME.
GREAT FAMILY
TEAMWORK.
TEENAGE PIGS
WERE JOYFUL IN THE HOSE.
THANKS DAD!
GREAT FRIDAY SHOPTALK.
GOD BLESS YOU. LOVE AND PRAYING.
SE MICHIGAN 🙏 ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏☕️☕️☕️🙏
Look at all your beautiful grass!!!!!!
Not going to say I told you so . . . that water tower would last a week where I live . . . surprised with the little damage, well built . . . the bottom frame could have been angled out. Great video, cheers.
When quail are grown trained to fly for bird dog training, they will peck on each other causing much damage. The growers simply clip the beak back a bit so they cant hurt each other. They can still eat bugs, grass, feed, etc. without consequence. You might try that. You only trim a little, not the whole or even half the beak.
Your high tunnel is looking amazing👏!
The chicken with the beak issue needs to be named Snaggel tooth!
Cruckshank for the broken beak.
Jason you’d better figure out how you are going to run your lines and get them in those trenched sections and those frost free hydrants. Filling buckets like that is going to get old really fast! It won’t take long to run the line and to put the hydrants in. Thank goodness none of your animals were harmed when that water harnessing apparatus tipped over. Hopefully you can find a way to secure it so it won’t flip again in the future. God bless .🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦🍁
We live in a high wind area of the country- so glad the animals are ok and that the damage was not worse. ❤
I think about some kind of rain catchment right next to the greenhouse easier to use rainwater than having to use your well water.
Maybe some kind of automatic sprinklers ,drip system you can reconfigure as needed each year in green house time and water is precious
The chick has a scissor beak, they usually do manage to eat, drink and do well. It is genetic. You might want to stake your water tower.
I think you should use Solar panel to running the pump with over flow valve to filling your buckets 👍🏻
We had cross beak for 16 years! Some just have the will to live against all odds!
Your doing it all gloriously.😊
Praise the Lord that that was all the damage you had! All Bernices on grass, so cute! Blessings!
Yep, Jaws quote. Nice
For every meter diffrence from the outlet of your water tank to the outlet at the end of the pipe is 1 atmosphere.
I love in a windy area, you just got to tie stuff down, sorry this happened
Next time I’m at the grocer meat department I’m going to seriously ask the guy/butcher/worker ‘Does your bacon come from Happy Pigs? ‘ 😂😂😂Happy Days to you all! Glad your high tunnel is okay and hopes the repairs on water tower go easy on you! 😁👏☀️🥰🤗🙏🏻
Not going to lie Jason, for a while I really thought you had named and could recognize Bernice..."these are all Bernice!" 😂
Great Job guys!
Bend the top curve sines to work.
Thanks for the video!
You’ll build it bigger and better!
Don't forget catamaran, out rigger designs too.
You were watering the pigs, I heard Ben’s daughter yell out “GROW” 😂. Heck if plants can grow, so can the meat. Always great videos.
Quick thinking y'all!
scissor beak chicks still grow and eat fine hugsss
Good job Lorraine❤
watering is awesome!
A Marine Homesteader empervise 😅 lol ❤
Well, at least you are not alone.....it's always something.....it makes me feel that way anyway.
You can fix that
Bernices....😊...call the little grey one sheera I still have my bernice and fuzzy muggins....😊
NOOOOO!!!
It’s lush around there! You need some beef feeding in there…
When you build a structure that you want to be movable, you have to secure it so the wind can't move it.
You need a bigger boat? How about a bigger base? Some outriggers would probably fix the problem. I would just sister the turkey roost. thanks for all the videos. I have learned a lot and enjoyed them all.
Too bad you water barrels tipped over...I think it's a great idea though!
Everytime you get new egg layers always get 1 breed and the next time get a different breed so when it's time for making stewing hens you know wich ones to get rid of
Chicken Steve is a good name
scissor beaks are sad, especially one that severe. Keep an eye on it, it may not be able to eat enough as it grows
You might consider dropping the center of gravity.
