This entire Tanglewood concert is Chicago at their finest. They absolutely smoked this show from start to finish. Everyone was on fire. This is Chicago at their youthful, passionate, powerful, creative best. Nothing like these cats then or now.
I was lucky enough 2 have seen Chicago w/ Terry Kath several times: 1st time in 1971 in Harrisburg, PA. Blown away hardly describes the experience, I fell in love w/ the band. Terry's talent as a guitarist & singer was unbelievable. He'd be a rock SuperStar now had he lived. Long live. Chicago & the memories of Mr. Kath!!!
It's too bad that Chicago is mostly remembered now for soft-rock ballads. This was the Chicago I first fell in love with - a band that jammed as hard as anyone led by the supremely talented Terry Kath.
So true. I was not even two months old when this concert took place and the only song I remember of theirs growing up was "Saturday in the Park" which was great but then the 80s hit then they started putting out stuff like "You're the Inspiration" and I just assumed that they were a soft rock band and never was interested in hearing any of their old stuff. Then when I heard 25 or 6 to 4, it lead me to check out Chicago IX and I realized that I liked every track on there. Then I started listening to the early albums and realized that this band was a freaking treasure. I had no idea Terry Karth was such a god on guitar.
I just can't see how how he could play that blistering lead annd and rythem too all through a song, while singing those amazing vocals at the same time. what concentration and awsome talent.
Allen Nance :Shortly before his death, when.asked who his favourite up and coming guitarists were, Jimi Hendrix said he dug Terry Kath, and Billy Gibbons.
One of my favorite Chicago songs and one that showcases the band's talents and epitomizes why the original seven were so good. Like a finely tuned 8-cylinder vehicle firing on all cylinders. And Terry Kath was just unbelievable, a total monster on guitar. Can't wait to see daughter Michelle's documentary.
I was not a Cetera fan in the 80s, but when he played with these original 6, he played a slapping bass. My 68yo self forgot this beautiful song made my cry.
Ditto. PC plays a particularly kick ass, melodic bass line on this one. It leapt into my mind when I saw an interview where he said McCartney is a huge influence on his style.
They didn't try to out do each other, because Terry was a baritone, Peter was a high tenor, and Terry couldn't reach those high notes clean and clear like Peter, you can see they respected each others talents as well as compliment. Thats what made it work, almost like Mike Porcaro (Rip) described the Bobby Kimball era of the Toto line-up which let their 6 grammys in 1983. Very similar indeed.
I absolutely love early Chicago especially their first couple of albums. They are pure gold. There is just something about this song in particular that makes it stand above most of the rest. I feel like it is one of the most underrated songs of all time. What a classic.
If I had the privilege to pick one band to show up and play my private back yard wedding, it would be this lineup in this era. Simply the best music ever! What a treat that we have these great videos!
great song please check out Chicago Album Review First 3 Albums,Chicago V, VI and VII Album Review and Chicago VII , X and XI album Review on my channel
What a band ! In those days nothing like it . Great instrumentals , vocals and lyrics . The best horn band , hands down . This song was one of my favorites . God bless em' .
This (Out in the Country), is undoubtedly the defining creation and undeniable sound that is Chicago. This Sound is their identity with every member working as a team of disciplined and dedicated musicians delivering a quality performance, every time. And this composition is a Terry Kath creation. Well done, guys!
Sounds like possibly among the greatest gifts ever . This is fantastic music. Although I was born in 74 when I discovered music like this and allman brothers I discovered music that's great to listen to no matter what mood I'm in. I'm also a musician and Terry kath is criminally underrated he should be among the greats but I feel like the horns turn some people off
Maryann Merritt hello beautiful woman again how come you do not reply to me or you were scared I might bite you don't worry sweetheart I would never break you that hard your look just brings out the kid in me I don't know why
Without doubt a very talented, special group of young musicians that would write and play some of the best and most memorable music, songs that were ever written.
Very impressed with Lee's playing on this. Not obvious... but it's a blistering tune... nonstop .. sounds great. Nothing like the Chicago horn section sound.
Never realized til now what a headbanger Bobby was back in the day! Seeing him here reminds me of how sore my neck would be the next day after a great concert when I was a young bcuz I did the same - just had to ROCK OUT! I'm surprised my now elderly neck still works at all.
My favorite song off a great album. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, Chicago at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, Conn., performing Chicago II in its entirety. I've seen them in concert probably 8 times over the last 30 years, but I never would have thought I'd have the chance to hear this stuff live and in person. It'll sound different without Terry and Peter, but it's still great music, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Terry was my influence after George Harrison.Used to do this song with a horn group where I played guitar and sang Terry's part. Was in Heaven when I did.Need to do a track on it and perform it solo soon( no one is paying for 7-9 pieces anymore-sadly!)
Hi We were a French tribute CTA Band in the 70's. We used to play all the songs of the first albums. But we don't record anything. My favourites songs were in the country, Mongonucleosis 25 or 6 to 4 and Beginnings. The name of our band was Transfert. And we saw Chicago in Paris in the 70's.
@@brianlaurin8675 I did see them in their prime, in the mid 70's at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA. They made a good job of the several shows I saw there. See Leonid and Friends for the continuation of the original "Chicago" sound.
Poor Danny having trouble with his drums,, bass drum pedal looks like, he was definitely given it a work out with those 16th notes talk about one quick foot driving the crap out of that band.. Terry was the battery but Danny was the fire.. lt was the worst thing Chicago could have done was to fire Danny , besides I thought at the beginning they all agreed that nobody could be fired. Danny Seraphine is such a great drummer. I was hoping Chicago would put whatever was going on hi them then in the past and bring back an old friend the best drummer they ever had back in the band, Chicago will sound like Chicago again. I mean what could be that bad that they wouldn't what him back in the band?! Maybe they might be back on the charts if they did. There's no way Tris imboden came even close to driving Chicago the way that Danny Seraphine could drive a band..
Alas and anon, let us regard and celebrate the passing of our faithful childhood companion, the Double Album. 😢😊 Ye shall be remem'bred. (Sorry, seemed only fitting to go full-on Shakespeare.) 😎
The two people who made Chicago awesome were Peter Cetera and Terry Kath! When them two were gone the band was still good, but not like it was with them! RIP Terry Kath!
+Anthony Festa, My mom got me hooked on Chicago years ago when I was a young teenager. The old members wasn't there, but Chicago 21 had just came out. I got that album on cassette tape.lol! It had "hearts in pieces" on it. It was summer time in the early 90s. Good memories! :-)
@Brian Laurin: What do you mean, "not embarrassing"? ------------------------------------------ When I was younger, in my days on college, I loved this band because of the voice of Terry Kath and the trombone sound of James Pankow. A pal of mine heard Blues at that time and used to scroff about Chicago. He called it "All the happy people music" :-) I understood it later on: It's a little bit "sweetish". There is no question: It was a band of very professional musicans. But I found Blood Sweat & Tears much more better. Chicago started very hopeful, with some good douple-LPs - but got under influence of Peter Cetera to much into direction "girl's music".
Let's say: The had a grandiose start, to go into insignificant boring mainstream, already during the Seventies. I regret that. May be it was the first band combining jazz and rock in a very special American rural style. - From time to time I use to hear them, as a kind of reminiscence to my youth.
Went to see them in the early 70s they plaid for 2 hours took a little brake then plaid for 2 more hours saw them on the news with the beach boys on the other end of the stadium they moved the stadium 18 inches it was rocking back in forth in real
Late 60's early 70's Chicago was all I ever needed!
still do now, and forever.
Nothing beats the Horns, Jazz, Rock fusion that was Terry Kath's Chicago.
This is the band I will always remember !!! , seven musicians sounding like a full orchestra , fantastic
They don't write 'em like this anymore. So creative and outside the box!
This entire Tanglewood concert is Chicago at their finest. They absolutely smoked this show from start to finish. Everyone was on fire. This is Chicago at their youthful, passionate, powerful, creative best. Nothing like these cats then or now.
Amen!
Correct! What a crazy talented bunch of musicians! The loss of Terry Kath was so sad 😢
I was lucky enough 2 have seen Chicago w/ Terry Kath several times: 1st time in 1971 in Harrisburg, PA. Blown away hardly describes the experience, I fell in love w/ the band. Touché!
Oh, I'll remember this even after I get Some-timers.
I hope.
😎
50 years on, I still have Chicago (1) on my playlist. It is simply awesome!
Fleetwood Mac .. same thing :(
I just can't see how how he could play that blistering lead annd and rythem too all through a song, while singing those amazing vocals at the same time. what concentration and awsome talent.
thats one of the reasons Kath was unique..his ability to sing..through difficult rhythms..plus solo..and play the best rhythm guitar on the planet.!!
Allen Nance :Shortly before his death, when.asked who his favourite up and coming guitarists were, Jimi Hendrix said he dug Terry Kath, and Billy Gibbons.
S
terry kath was special and definitely underappreciated
"rythem" lol
This band had a fantastic on-stage sound and presence....can hardly believe how good this still is! July 2023..
Terry is known for his soloing but he's a phenomenal rhythm player.
So true. I loved his rhythm playing on Chicago V the best
I always liked how Terry and Pete would trade off lead vocals on certain songs. Those two would handle it well, without trying to outdo each other.
call and response, baby!
Dialogue!! Terry and Peter.
Nectar of the gods! So great, timeless!
They didn't try to out do each other, because Terry was a baritone, Peter was a high tenor, and Terry couldn't reach those high notes clean and clear like Peter, you can see they respected each others talents as well as compliment. No one like him to this day. A fantastic band and he was brilliant.
great example of why this was the greatest rock band of that time. Innovative, talented, tight - they had everything
I love Chicago, but I question your use of the superlative "greatest." Led Zeppelin and the Stones were both doing pretty good work in 1970.
great song please check out Chicago Album Review First 3 Albums,Chicago V, VI and VII Album Review and Chicago VII , X and XI album Review on my channel
Chicago could play what the Stones or Zeppelin did. Neither of those bands could do what Chicago at it’s prime could do.
Agreed
What a band ! In those days nothing like it . Great instrumentals , vocals and lyrics . The best horn band , hands down .
This song was one of my favorites . God bless em' .

The greatest lineup ever hands down
This is just BRILLIANT!!!! Everything from start to finish!! What a ride this song is!
My first concert. 12 yo. Mom took me. This is why I’m a musician today. Magic, maybe?
That drummer just blows me away! I sit down at my drumset and come nowhere near. Something with which to aspire
Luckkkkkyyyyy

Love Terry's "to's & "do's".... omg thankful we have these videos!!🎶🎸
And the Terry shuffle!
Maryann Merritt hello beautiful woman again how come you do not reply to me or you were scared I might bite you don't worry sweetheart I would never break you that hard your look just brings out the kid in me I don't know why
Raw power! Nothing will ever come close to the original lineup.
Terry Kath guitar genius and the most soulful beautiful voice
Peter Cetera's voice was amazing in this song.
Exactly👌🏻💓 he's perfect💞
He’s special
My favorite Terry Kath song, soulful, thoughtful, I hope the last thing I here on this earth is his voice. Love you Terry!
Without doubt a very talented, special group of young
musicians that would write and play some of the best
and most memorable music, songs that were ever written.
Love the contrast of Kath’e voice and Ceterra’s falsetto
It’s perfect to my ears haha
Cetera is not falsettoing on this song. His voice is higher than Kaths naturally. 4:14
Terry Kath was just fuckin great in every way!!!
Thanks Terry. Miss you so much.
One of the greatest. Even better (fantastic) on Chicago II LP.
Please be advised CTA cannot be duplicated . One of a Kind.
One might listen
To what ‘Leonid and Friends’ are doing with the old ‘Chicago’ music… you will be delightfully surprised…
Very impressed with Lee's playing on this. Not obvious... but it's a blistering tune... nonstop .. sounds great. Nothing like the Chicago horn section sound.
great music & memories for 50 years, one of the best bands of all time, absolutely beautiful music, solid gold standard of excellence
"In the Country" is so awesome, especially when they jam.
Congratulations, Chicago..........RRHOF Class of 2016, 'bout damn time!!
Terry made this album #1 for me.
Incredible mix.. I have been a sound tec for 32 years have nailed 12 Grammys .thanks for the post
Chills on my spine
Never realized til now what a headbanger Bobby was back in the day!
Seeing him here reminds me of how sore my neck would be the next day after a great concert when I was a young bcuz I did the same - just had to ROCK OUT! I'm surprised my now elderly neck still works at all.
Terry Kath the greatest Guitar player that ever lived
how much I love this man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this song........
May Terry Kath rest in peace.
My favorite song off a great album.
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, Chicago at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, Conn., performing Chicago II in its entirety. Great Chicago show! Kath is awesome.
One of my favorites.
terry was epic
Been listening since the early seventies I guess I'm old but still rocking.
I'm 77 yo, and I agree with you
Terry was my influence after George Harrison.Used to do this song with a horn group where I played guitar and sang Terry's part. Was in Heaven when I did.Need to do a track on it and perform it solo soon( no one is paying for 7-9 pieces anymore-sadly!)
One of my favorites from this supergroup!

Hard to believe it has been almost 50 years since this.....
Saw them in fall of 1971, unbelievable love you Terry
Sweet music 🎶🎵to my ears
Pity the fools who don't think - I mean, know - that this is rock at its finest.
Got 2 c C.T.A. back in the 70s in down town Houston. Great memories ❣️
lucky to have seen Terry live before his untimely death. He just kills it.
nice.. I would have loved to see Chicago in there prime !!!
Wow. That’s awesome you got to see him. Soulfully done Terry❤️
@@brianlaurin8675 I did see them in their prime, in the mid 70's at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA. They made a good job of the several shows I saw there. See Leonid and Friends for the continuation of the original "Chicago" sound.
Just imagine what they would`ve done without the death of Terry Kath.
Mike swart he was ready to leave the band at that point.
Mike swart probably faded into obscurity like the the rest and the best of them
Terry Kath would've been one of the top 2 guitarists ever along with Jimi Hendrix, if he would've lived
Kath would have likely died from drugs anyway.
Poor Danny having trouble with his drums,, bass drum pedal looks like, he was definitely given it a work out with those 16th notes talk about one quick foot driving the crap out of that band.. Love this song!!
Terry was absolutely the one of the greats
Just a fantastic song.
TERRY KATH ! He's The Man!
I think from 69 to 73 they carried a part of the America soul
I loved Chicago I grew with that band
At 3:19 Terry Kath is shredding that Fender guitar.
Oh God i dooooo love youuuuu. Miss u Terry
Best Chicago song.
They are the greatest ❤ 🙌 I was 13 at 1970
Beautiful ❤
I love this so much that it makes me cry❤
RIP Terry Kath.
Alas and anon, let us regard and celebrate the passing of our faithful childhood companion, the Double Album.
😢😊
Ye shall be remem'bred.
(Sorry, seemed only fitting to go full-on Shakespeare.)
😎
Uno!!! De mis favoritos del gran Grupo "Chicago" lo estoy escuchando medio siglo..50 años.....

Terry ripping that Strat all night!
Peter Cetera ladies & gentleman .... terry soul 🎉kath
BRAVO !!! 👏👏👏
Fantastic
Hell yea!
The two people who made Chicago awesome were Peter Cetera and Terry Kath! When them two were gone the band was still good, but not like it was with them! RIP Terry Kath!
Add Danny Seriphine to That
+Anthony Festa, Good point!! There is nothing like the originals!

+Jonathan Reynolds , Maybe that was there 20th album. It was one of them!! lol!
yes!!
This is the real Chicago before Terry Kath died
When Terry died, so do the band.
Pretty Dammmmm Goood! !
Tight Musician's...
3:17... my gosh, Terry just rippin' it up!
Super band
One of the few Chicago tracks which is not embarrassing.
Susisaftig lol ok
What do you mean, "not embarrassing"

テリーキャスが生きていたら、今のシカゴはどんな感じかなあ、
この当時のピーターはかげがうすいね。
テリーキャスの存在感はハンパない!
I'm pissed off at myself for not being born years earlier so that I could go to this concert!
