The old “Bait and Switch” tactic. The guy was trying to find someone to dump his commons. It did look like he was feeling Mike out, before he offered some better cards. Honestly, if I were Mike, I may have just walked on all of it, just because of feeling scammed.
Sometimes people don’t have anyone to share their collection with or talk to about their passion for cards that appreciates what they mean. I kinda think that guy really just wanted someone to connect with about his love for the hobby. Great episode
Bro you are exactly who I wanted to be in elementary school but when I told my counselor that I wanted to live off my own land and sell baseball cards for a living she told me to grow up and get back to class. Stay in school, use your mind. You dont want to grow up to be a plumber do you??? So, ironically, Now I am a plumber. What pisses me off the most is that she frowned on my idea of collecting and selling cards while living on my own just as much as she discredited the hard work and knowledge that goes into the plumbing trade yet I wasnt scared to be a plumber yet I couldnt face my fear of actually going all in on collecting/investing. Until now. Thanks to you T. Youre a breath of fresh air on the hobby. Keep chasin my friend. Gonna let you know in 60 days if its listing and shipping or if its back to sweating and crimping...Im bout to go chase that cardboard brotha! Peace!
These academia folks believe the trades are beneath them. I know a lot more well off tradesmen than professors. And tradesmen don’t have to pay through the nose for services because they can handle things themselves. Not to mention the pride in being able to handle those tasks on your own. And every plumber I’ve ever known was well off. Very. It’d be great if she had some plumbing emergency and you were the one that showed up to fix whatever situation her or her husband or children were incapable of taking care of.
Drew Bledsoe was a favorite player of any NFL fan, especially any of us born from 78-84 and were in middle/high school in his first 5-6 seasons. He was a numbers machine and had the lowly Patriots contending almost immediately.
This is a great episode that shows why this works for some but won’t work for others. Kudos to Mike for how he handled that situation. The guy seemed nice enough, but that was some industrial grade BS that guy pulled. I couldn’t do it.
That's why I collect 99.9% vintage hoops and I complete a set and I move on to next set. Each year from 69-70 Tall boys to 79-80 has all mid grade rookies and then 87-88 Fleer to 92-93 NBA Hoops and Fleer. I never think about the money only finishing the sets to leave my best friends kid.
speaking of "reading the card back", I was a kid collecting in the late 90s and upperdeck always put a "Did You Know?" trivia of the player on the back. always enjoyed reading all of those.
Damn he could have said before he got there to look, can tell mike was shattered, but he made it work understanding the bigger picture for connections wise and content also. What can I say I’ve never been disappointed by an episode yet, best show on RUclips!
Really respect the part about being careful with the breaking and staying within limits. I bet the large majority are not doing that and chasing that high. It's easy to get caught in.
@CHASING CARDBOARD way to addictive, i got in 2500 in no time. Now i buy bulk boxes cheap so the kids can enjoy them like i did when i was young without chasing anything. Great video and even better message!
A good reminder that gambling can be a real problem for even the nicest of people. And group breaks is gambling. Sometimes I feel left out in the hobby because I'm looking for $50 cards, not $50,000 cards like seemingly everyone on instagram and youtube. But at the end of the day, my modest collection is built guilt(debt) free and I can enjoy it way more that way. PS - through Chasing Cardboard I've come to a lot of Mike's other work on RUclips and really enjoy it.
