There are 2 problems that I always encounter when buying a collection. 1. Sentimental attachment. 2. Everyone wants 100% of retail. Finding that middle ground is the art of the deal...
I'd have too say though the second guy Dexter needs too grade his own cards and with all other stuff added he could easily IMO opinion get close too $20,000
I took a 20 year break from card collecting and now i wish that i hadn't. I definitely feel like I am 20 years behind. Not just in the cards themselves, but the general knowledge. This the best show on the internet. For me anyway.
Great episode and love what you do. This is one of my favorite episodes. I think Dexter had too much sentimental value from those memories of finding treasure in storage lockers that he isn't ready to let go of yet until he gets an amazing price. Dexter was one of the coolest guys on the show yet and if I were him I would have declined the offer also. I love how he said it's just business.

And I wish I could give you some info on the soccer card market here, but unfortunately I only collect baseball and am unfamiliar with the soccer market. But I would guess that it's comprised of a younger demographic overall, as older people here generally don't know much about soccer. Hope this helps.
@@zachbush7923 Hey Zach, thanks for the question! Soccer is extremely popular here in Hungary, but most collectors (incl. kids) are pursuing cheap collections like Adrenalyn XL & Match Attax. There is only a small, but active hobby collector group in soccer. I'm fortunate to be part of it from the start, around 2014. There are actually much more basketball collectors here (mainly 30-40 y.o. lads who were collecting in their youth in the 90's). We have some small hobby shops and some events as well. Most of the action happens in FB groups, there are many sells and even breaks. There are European countries with much bigger market of course (none of them closing to the US btw, everything is way smaller in every aspects), but I have to say, it's not bad to be a Hungarian collector. :) There is a huge fanbase of stickers as well, they have a way longer history here in Europe (Panini is Italian).
I found this channel pretty early. There were maybe a few thousand subscribers however, from day one I instantly felt like I could see this channel on a Netflix series. It is so well filmed and documented that I am drawn into every episode from start to finish without skipping a beat, please continue what you’re doing

Great content guys. Hard to hear that guy hung up on prices 12 months ago. I honestly don't think we will ever see sports cards at those levels again. Sellers need to adjust their expectations accordingly.

Really like your channel. I found it about 3 months ago and I'm impressed that your channel is different from a lot of the other youtubers. I started collecting baseball cards back in 1981 and at the time I was deep into comics I was on/off again over the years. I recently got back into BB cards but on a limited budget. From 1983 forward I had sold or donated a lot of the cards to fund my comic collection. I miss some of the players but I have always been into the comics more than anything else. Keep these great videos coming.
I gotta find me some storage units. That being said I had a friend buy one and got some early pokemon cards that ended up with High grades. It seems possible. Just gotta keep looking.

On the surface 70% seems insane but with the time and what eBay takes out for fees I get it. Even though eBay is so fast and easy you’d think you’d be able to avoid eBay and keep more profit for yourself on the big ticket stuff especially vintage. The negative comments are just people that don’t see listing and shipping cards as work. You can’t work for free. People are going to have to understand selling collections like this is HOURS of work. Ty and his team can’t do it for free

It bothers me (I do it too sometimes, so don’t get me wrong) when people keep talking about the past prices. If you want to sell right now, the market is the current market. Suck it up butter cup or just hang in there for further losses or maybe the market comes back close to where it was, but then you still have opportunity loss to make up your losses with the new cash. Many sellers can’t get away from tripping on their own feet.
Russell Wilson a good buy for future investment? Curious, only because I live in the northwest and there are a ton of cards that seem to get no love at the moment.
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD Wasn't bagging on your buys but was more of a general question regarding his market at the moment. Was picking through a collection last night and the seller had a bunch of Russell Wilson rookies he said he would give me a great deal. I kind of just laughed it off and didn't even bother asking prices. A little regretful thinking about it now.
The first guy's collection is cool and all, but he definitely values them too highly. I'd rather spend money or invest in older cards than the newer stuff. I think that stuff will fade over time. Wow, finding a Jordan rookie in a storage locker, wow!
Dexter should see if Renee from storage wars would; interested in his stuff. But sounds like he values it to much. Only a wealthy collector that wants this stuff for their collection hoard can come near his price. But still wouldn't be enough, I'm sure.
Dexter is like the people that go on Shark Tank & don't want to make a deal; just want the publicity & your knowledge to value on his stuff. Anyway, it is what it is, ya win some, ya lose some, keep on keeping on.
I think you should do a show on how horrible bidding on eBay has become. The market is so bad that I get out bid by some by a few pennies at the last minute and then a few days or weeks later I get an email that the card deserves a second chance. Same seller, same starting price.

The negative comments are just people that don’t see listing and shipping cards as work. You can’t work for free. People are going to have to understand selling collections like this is HOURS of work. Ty and his team can’t do it for free

It bothers me (I do it too sometimes, so don’t get me wrong) when people keep talking about the past prices. If you want to sell right now, the market is the current market. Suck it up butter cup or just hang in there for further losses or maybe the market comes back close to where it was, but then you still have opportunity loss to make up your losses with the new cash. Many sellers can’t get away from tripping on their own feet.

@@CHASINGCARDBOARD Wasn't bagging on your buys but was more of a general question regarding his market at the moment. Was picking through a collection last night and the seller had a bunch of Russell Wilson rookies he said he would give me a great deal. I kind of just laughed it off and didn't even bother asking prices. A little regretful thinking about it now.

The first guy's collection is cool and all, but he definitely values them too highly. I'd rather spend money or invest in older cards than the newer stuff. I think that stuff will fade over time. Wow, finding a Jordan rookie in a storage locker, wow!

I think you should do a show on how horrible bidding on eBay has become. The market is so bad that I get out bid by some by a few pennies at the last minute and then a few days or weeks later I get an email that the card deserves a second chance. Same seller, same starting price.
