    Thanks for the vid, I thought about PSA1+ first, as it’s a better upgrade for PSA1 I guess but then I thought I wanted spent less money. I went through a lot of vids and once Elgato cut my eye and your video confirms it to the point, especially that I have very light mic. I also like the ball, could be a good option for camera. Thanks for your suggestion!

    Very detailed and helpful comparison doing side-by-side like this. Have you tried going close to/over weight capacity in both of these to see how do they compare? Some people seemed to be able to hang even a mirrorless camera on the PSA1, I wonder how the Elgato does on that regard. Thanks!

    • @FrugalStreamer

      The Podmic nearly maxes out the Wave Arm. Anything over 2.2 lbs is an issue. The PSA1 has plenty of tension to handle over 4 lbs. I can hang my Sony and with camera cage no problem on the Wave Arm.

    The MOST important thing a boom has to do, for me, is "Move to THERE and stay put". All the cable management, great clamp, etc stuff is fine. But it has to be able to "Move to THERE and stay put".
    I feel like I really didn't get that concept addressed with your review.

    Thanks for the review! Has the wave mic arm become noisier over time? The noise factor is one of the biggest factors for me right now as I'm considering upgrading my mic arm for Black Friday

    Have you checked out the InnoGear Microphone Arm on Amazon, it's $39.99 right now and it's almost the same as the Rode. I have 2 and love them. It's by far the best boom arm I have gotten. No issues, plenty strong, and no noise at all. Check it out some time :)

      @@FrugalStreamer Nice, I tried some cheap neweer ones but after a few months, it was loose and made a bunch of noise. Looks like there's a lot of copies of the Rode one. So far the innogears have been great, I have had them for over a year and still as good as new.

      The biggest weakness of the Wave Mic Arm is it's weight limit. I am noticing now that it struggles to hold my podmic in place.

    I have the Q2U Samson mic and it weighs 318g, which is 0.701 pounds according to the conversion table. So, can I use the Q2U mic for this Elgato Wave Mic Arm High Rise? Would I need to use the counterweight?

  • @theDailyKickoff

    Elgato arm is fairly weak for its price range and its competition. Its mic weight capacity is 2.2lbs, while others can hold 4+ lbs. I've tried a Blue Yeti and a Sm7b on it and both can't hold the mic if you try to raise the arm higher, at a 90 degree angle and above. Below that though, it holds both mics fine.

    I'm personally not a fan of the elgato ball joint. There really is no need for it anyway because most mics have there own swivel and once setup you really don't need to move it around too much unless your changing your sitting position constantly.

    • @FrugalStreamer
      @FrugalStreamer  2 года назад

      The arm was designed to be used with more than a mic. I appreciate it more and more I use it on my review/work table with my Sony cam.

  • @jreaperx8396

    The fact that you can't add tension is a complete killer. I have the RE20 and shock mount, got this arm, and it can't hold it up. Anyone that has the RE20 + official shock mount don't get this mic arm.

    • @FrugalStreamer
      @FrugalStreamer  2 года назад

      I'm hoping they will add that in future versions. That is my one issue with it.

  • @bennyschapero2049

    I don't understand, instead of using a mic. How about using a lapel mic? Like a mm1 for $20

    • @FrugalStreamer
      @FrugalStreamer  2 года назад

      Lapel mics are ok in situations where you're moving around a lot, but they are not meant for broadcasts. They are condensers and they are usually omnidirectional so it picks up a lot of noise including keyboards, fans, etc.

    • @FrugalStreamer

      Have you priced a mic arm that gives you the same capabilities and quality? It's at least $50 cheaper than the closest competition? Sometimes frugal isn't buying the cheapest thing out there. Sometimes, it's finding the best design and quality for the price.
