I used to own a compass boomarm for my blue yeti, after 2 years it broke, and I then realised I had been bending it the opposite direction all that time, eventually the clamps just popped out... But to be honest, 2 years of total failure and it still didn't crack during that time amazes me.
A quick note on the desk clamp--that feature is there so you can ratchet the clamp tighter in case you have the arm positioned against a wall. It's just as useful to tuck away.
Best review for a boom arm, so nice that you didn't just only talk about the Elgato, but also mentioned others. And the problems with them. I bought Blue Compass first, and had to realize exactly the same thing, my microphone weighs too little. And it didn't turn out to be that good for me, so i just re-sold it. And i did buy the Elgato yeasterday, waiting for it to come now. Now it is just sad, i didn't watch the video before, so i could have save a hole week of irritation. But in the end is all good. The only werid stuff, is my boom arm now coast me more, then my mic did. :D I'm using a Roccat Torch, got it on sale.
It's also worth mentioning that you could get the Rode PSA 1 as well, but as far as I've seen this boom arm is basically just as good, just different aesthetically. I personally went with the Rode PSA 1 just because I bought a cheaper clone of it and I just love that style, but the Elgato Low Profile arm is something that I might get in the future.
Yoo this really helped me I ordered the elgato wave 3 mic 2 days ago and am gonna get the elgato wave mic arm now thanks for the help and u just earned a follow by me.
What is the actual weight of this arm, do you know please. Amazon says it's 7lbs but the shipping company I'm using to get it to my country are arguing it's 15lbs, significantly increasing the shipping cost If I could get a third opinion on this I'll be grateful.
Hello. Considering this arm for my setup but worried it’s too tall for where it needs to fit. Wondering if the arm was IN the mount and you stood UP the arm (collapsed) how tall would it be from desktop to the top of the arm. And also how much does the clamp hang down from bottom of desk. Weird questions I know but hoping you can help. Best of luck with getting to the 1K subs. Well edited vid this one. :alexi: PS: does it stay collapsed like it came in the box or do you have to strap it to keep it closed?
I will have to measure it later tonight. it will collapse like it came in the box with out the strap. the strap is only for packaging purposes. the weight of the microphone will prevent it from expanding out. ill let you know measurements later tonight.
For a FPS gamer you don't want a mic stand that block you line of sight having to push it out off the way at every 10 seconds you need a mic stand that comes from low under that gives you a clear line of sight both sides ! This one one your setup is clearly blocking your right line of sight ! even if it looks like a solid stand made to last !
I couldn’t agree more! However it does not block my line of sight. I just like to fight with stuff and constantly move it around hahaha. It’s close enough to me where it doesn’t block the monitor at all.
@@mccaurthor all good man no worries thanks a lot for responding. I’m debating on getting this mic and just wanted to ask before I bought it. We’re you using a noise gate in wavelink? I’m curious if I could run my wavelink into Audacity to capture
I have the Q2U Samson mic. So, can I use the Elgato Wave Mic High Rise with the Q2U ? It says that the mic weight is 318 g. So, I suppose I would have to use the counter weight right?
any alternatives to the mic arm? yeah absolutely it just depends on your microphone. there will also be a very noticeable quality difference between a cheap arm and a high end one like the wave mic arm.
I believe elgato wave arm have the best tension response. I bought a VIJIM 24 and is beautiful, but the tension sucks. It has a squeeze sound, and everytime I have to chance the tension. I broke one Of the knob already. I am trying to find elgato here in my country but no clue. And other boom ar that have great tension? Without need to adjust everytime?
IMO besides impressions about the arm (which are amazing btw thank you) you should have specified measures, I landed here because I cannot find full measures of the product (not even on elgato website) and is not about the length of the arm but the height from the surface of desk to the top of the 1st joint (with and without the extension). Thanks again for the impressions. I used to have the blue yeti with the compass arm and i have just bought the Wave 3 and I'm looking for the best arm for the wave 3, I'm deciding between this one and the LP one since this type of arms need a lot of space to move and the low profile ones do not get in the way of the field of view while looking at your screens.
All the stress points on the Blue Compass are made of plastic. Tightening them down eventually leads to cracking and complete failure. Blue made such a popular mic it's a shame they made such a boom arm that is a total waste of money. Do not buy.
Thanks for the review. You know, you could just catch a fly and release it rather than choose 'kill' as the first option, but okay. Contrary to what people might think, flies serve quite an important role for us humans as alternate pollinators and contribute towards the cycle of oxygen and crop production. This is becoming more important as continued industrialisation reduces bee habitats globally. Care or don't care, all I ask is that thought be there.

I appreciate the comment my man! And that’s funny about the cost of the boom arm price compared to your mic. You’ll love the mic arm! Thanks again!

Great video, very relaxing and nice to watch, and I'm definitely going to buy this arm, it looks great
Great Review mate. Cheers from Western Australia

I definitely plan on getting the low pro version
Let me know how it is!
How do you manage to make the arm stay down in the same position? Mine just bounces up again immediately.
Use the provided Weight that comes with the arm.

Just checking in on the measurement? Sounds like you might not yet had the chance?
"I need to kill that"....😂
There is no reason this boom can't handle heavier microphones- the specs list 2kg...few mics are heavier than that. (766.57 g is what the sm7b weighs)
What is the diameter of the pin that inserts into the desk clamp?

Hey man listening with headphones I’ve noticed a few times the audio panned or dropped out. We’re you using a vst? Wave link?
I noticed that too after recording, I had my noise gate set to aggressively and didn’t realize it. My apologies.

I keep the spiders around... to make sure the flies stay the fuck out of my house. Kill is appropriate.
