  • @deldarel
    @deldarel Месяц назад +12

    That's a $100 arm and that's being generous looking at how good the springs are in this demonstration. My gas spring triple monitor arm, individually adjustable, is $120 and holds 10kg.
    The LP was already way overpriced (should have been $60) and even then it just keeps sagging even at its tightest (mine has crappy tolerances. You'd think they'd actually do some quality control for that premium). Glad to see it addressed, but calm down on the price! jeez
    O wow, it has magnets, couldn't do that on a steel arm before /s.
    But even then, $180 seems reasonable compared to the wave desk stand. $60???? For that piece of junk? Desk noise is exactly what you want to get away from. I'd get $60 if they included an internal shock mount.

    The Elgato LP arm was one of my all-time best purchases I didn't know I needed. It was huge coming from a Rode PSA-1, which could seriously injure you and took up so much field of view space. The magnets and small bounciness were my only gripes with the LP, so this looks like an instant-buy for me.

      @@AdrianComoro Agree with everything you and @chadp284 say. But Elgato are getting savvy with the customisable thing these days. You may not like it, and I don't really think it's worth the premium either, but there are people out there (and Harris is quite fairly one of them, as he has his image on line to think about too) that would pay a premium for a decent product with a little tiny weeny bit extra to add to the appearance of their streams (obvs wont cost the bigger streamers as they will get one for free). But yeah, agree... starting price is way too high.
      Elgato will take a bit off and sell loads in Black Friday deals. Then this arm is the new normal at that price, and Elgato have a head start on making more money when they release the Pro2 with it's customisable cable tray plates in a years time :D

    If I had a magic wand for this channel it would be to make Harris do more budget friendly options. I want to see the $30 mic arms. I want to see a round up on all the microphones from a budget brand. I know Elgato is the king in this space and they make really cool stuff but it's expensive and out of the question for a lot of people. I don't know if the primary demo for this channel is people with enough disposal income to buy everything Elgato puts out or if most people watching are actually making money from their content but for myself I believe there is a lot of value in the informative piece but also in the entertainment of watching a highly successful and knowledgeable person that is Harris using "cheap" or "budget" gear to their maximum potential.
    I know I can go find other creators that are probably reviewing the budget stuff but I have years of trust built up with Harris and that's why I would use my magic wand on that.

    $180 for a mic arm? Sadly out of my price range.
    I get that other gas based arms are very expensive, but I still wish it was cheaper.
    For someone that's been tempted to use a low profile arm as a camera arm so I can easily move it when ever I need to, I like the fact that it's one and done vs. Other mounts that I have to unscrew and re-screw over and over again.
    That said, if there are recommendations for a low profile arm that already could do that for a better price, let me know.

  • @nickglover
    @nickglover Месяц назад

    The thing that is a bummer with this is that the ball joint that holds the mic doesn't maintain the mic's angle the same way that a traditional boom arm does. On a standard arm, when I move the arm up or down, the mic is always at the same angle. With the LP arms, you have to lock the mic in or leave that ball joint a little loose, which I imagine would start to wear over time.

    As an FYI for viewers:
    1) There's a hex screw in the clamp post/riser post/bottom arm where you would tighten once you put the pieces inside. So don't just jam the pieces together if it doesn't go in easy just loosen the hex, put in the pole, and tighten it. If you do this you also won't have any sagging (so the hex key is for more than just weight adjustment)
    2) That little logo on the hex key is magnetic so you can stick it inside the cable channel cover so you don't lose it :)
    3) It is in fact one of my favorite products ever. Every time I move my mic around I can't help but smile.

    A great product that they ruined with pricing. The OG arm could be bought on Amazon for $100 consistently and now it’s $180 before tax??? Come on Elgato…

      Mic Arm LP isn't going anywhere - it will still be available and its price isn't changing. This is an additional option for those who want it.

      @@Steggy I understand that but it’s frustrating seeing the original LP arm or the BEACN Mic Arm that has the same features as this going for $120. It doesn’t make sense for this to be $180. I get it’s a business but still…

      @@bigman8733 It's not the same features though - the Beacn mic arm is similar to our first version of Mic Arm LP where you use a hex key to tighten a bushing for the pitch arm - so only difference there is we swapped out the hex key head to a wing nut to let you do this tool-lessly.
      So with these arms you can loosen, adjust pitch, and retighten, or you can use force to move the arm into your position and which will cause the bushing/screw to loosen which again would need to be retightened.
      Whereas a gas spring moves like a boom spring arm like Elgato Mic Arm or Rode PSA-1 - where it stays where you put it and there's no screws or bushings that need to be constantly fiddled with. But to do this there's a lot more components that go into the upper tier than a screw and a bushing to hold everything in place - and this is where the extra cost comes in.
      So if you don't need the benefits of the gas spring arm, you would be deciding between the Elgato Mic Arm LP or the Beacn Mic Arm. But make no mistake those 2 are the comparable models to one another - the Beacn is not like the Mic Arm Pro.

      @@Steggy it being a new version I understand there will be a price increase but with the OG elgato arms, PSA1+, and BEACN Arm being in the $100-130 (which are all great boom arms in their own right) this just seems so expensive even though it does look very nice and have good QoL features. I know a lot of professional low profile arms are $300-500+ but still for the niche this product is feeling it just feels like awkward pricing. I’m sure it’ll sell like crazy and do well (and despite my retort something I’d definitely want to buy lol) it just seems pricing on a lot of elgato products are starting to trend higher than most people would’ve expected. Just my 2 cents

      @@bigman8733 Yes the goal was to take what people used to pay $400 for and cut that by more than half - but it's still a high end product, hence the "pro" nomenclature - and the pro gear isn't for everyone. When we first released the 4K60 Pro - it was $400 which seems crazy for a capture card until you realize that the cheapest 4K60 card on the market before ours was $1,000.
      We try to cover bases of different price points to be accessible to users - but at the same time there are certain price floors we aren't able to hit like the no-name brand amazon sellers because our products are required to meet regulations and certifications to sell retail that Amazon only sellers don't need to. So we'll never be able to do a $20 mic arm because those are skirting those regulations and generally straight from factories that are just knocking off or duping original products with the goal of just cutting corners to undercut the original's price.
      And then you have some brands who will then take those dupes, add their logo on them and charge 2x the price of the original dupe but no one seems to notice when that happens.
